Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There is a lot of legwork needed to obtain the Cainhurst Summons item needed to gain entry to Castle Cainhurst. What is one area the player will need to get inside of in order to eventually reach it?

Answer: Iosefka's Clinic

The Cainhurst Summons item is picked up in Iosefka's Clinic. As in, the interior of the clinic itself. The player begins their entire playthrough with their character right next to the clinic, but from the beginning of the game, it is not possible to gain entry to the interior of the clinic.

In order to get into the clinic, the player must first go to Forbidden Woods, enter a cave, and go up a ladder in said cave to emerge in the back courtyard of the clinic. From here, it is possible to enter the clinic and retrieve the Cainhurst Summons.

That's not all though, as the player must take this item to Hemwick Charnel Lane, and they must have previously defeated the Witches of Hemwick here. With the Witches dead and the Cainhurst Summons in hand, a stagecoach will appear to take the player from Hemwick Charnel Lane to Castle Cainhurst.

So, in summary, the player must go to Forbidden Woods, Iosefka's Clinic and Hemwick Charnel Lane, in order to eventually gain entry to Castle Cainhurst.
2. In terms of progressing the game, is Castle Cainhurst an optional or mandatory area?

Answer: Optional

While this may be an optional area, it is similar to the Cleric Beast and Blood-Starved Beast, where they may be optional, but you simply aren't experiencing some of the best the game has to offer if you opt to skip them. If you're speedrunning the game, then and only then should you disregard Castle Cainhurst. If you're undergoing a casual playthrough, this is a must-have experience.

The area is simply amazing, incredibly well designed, very well balanced, visually amazing and with a litany of good, useful and downright cool loot and other hidden secrets to find in the area. And on top of all of that, it has an impeccable, legendary boss fight waiting at the end of it.
3. Those looking for an excellent sidearm have plenty of reason to come here. Which gun can be looted from Castle Cainhurst?

Answer: Evelyn

Statistically, the Evelyn outclasses the Hunter's Pistol in every single way. The only downside is that it has a 17 Bloodtinge requirement, sensible given that the weapon was clearly intended for Bloodtinge builds. For such a build, welcome to the single most efficient firearm in the whole entire game. While not the most explosive, the Evelyn gets the most mileage out of each bullet fired, and it's not terribly close either. Players making Bloodtinge builds absolutely should come to Castle Cainhurst, and could use the Evelyn alone to justify the trip.

Notably, Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower wields the Evelyn as her sidearm of choice. She is the only NPC to do this.
4. Castle Cainhurst is also home to a really quirky but doubtlessly very strong Trick weapon. What Trick weapon is found here?

Answer: Reiterpallasch

The player must journey here to eventually obtain the Chikage, but the weapon itself is not looted here like the Reiterpallasch is. The Reiterpallasch is essentially a rapier with a small firearm attached to the hilt of the blade, a similar setup to the Rifle Spear only smaller.

In this specific case, good things do indeed come in small packages, as the Reiterpallasch is basically the Rifle Spear concept, but better in every way imaginable. It was notably not subjected to the wrath of repeated massive nerfs like the Rifle Spear was.

As such, generally speaking, this weapon is typically viewed as a fringe top 5 weapon in the entire game. If using a Skill or Bloodtinge build, the Reiterpallasch would be a very solid choice.
5. There's something for everyone in this area, and that includes Arcane builds. What Hunter's Tool can be picked up in Castle Cainhurst?

Answer: Executioner's Gloves

Executioner's Gloves takes three Quicksilver Bullets to cast, with a requirement of 20 in Arcane to cast. When cast, the user will essentially flick their wrist and fire three slow moving ethereal skulls at a target. If all three hit, the damage done is actually pretty good. Because of how Arcane works, namely never even reaching a soft cap with Hunter's Tools, a 99 Arcane build can make the Executioner's Gloves look pretty overpowered. Arcane build-making players should definitely come to Castle Cainhurst to obtain the Executioner's Gloves.
6. Regardless of when the player comes to Castle Cainhurst, they may take note of just how remote the location it's in seems to be. Castle Cainhurst is exclusive in this game for being completely and utterly unaffected by what?

Answer: Time of day

It is, of course, impossible to access Castle Cainhurst when the setting is during the evening. When night falls is when it first becomes possible. However, there is never a point in time when Castle Cainhurst becomes completely inaccessible, so it is also possible to arrive here when the Blood Moon is up, very late in the game.

However, even if the Blood Moon is up in Yharnam, it will not appear in Castle Cainhurst. Castle Cainhurst is also not home to any enemies, bosses or NPCs which behave any differently when the Blood Moon is up versus it being down.

In other areas, the Blood Moon is at least visible when it goes up versus when it is not. As well, there are often tiny, subtle changes most players are unlikely to notice. For example, when the Blood Moon raises, a Mad One permanently spawns in Hemwick Charnel Lane. But why would a player ever come back to Hemwick Charnel Lane after the Blood Moon is up? Small changes like that exist almost everywhere with NPCs or enemies, yet Castle Cainhurst is the exception.
7. Who is the boss of Forsaken Castle Cainhurst?

Answer: Martyr Logarius

Personally, Martyr Logarius gets my pick as the best, most complete and well designed boss in all of "Bloodborne", though my opinion would certainly be controversial and part of the minority at that.

Anyway, Logarius has two very distinct phases. He begins the fight with an introductory cutscene featuring him unthaw from being frozen, slowly grab his scythe, then walk very slowly towards the player, as if getting his sea legs under him. Second phase is when things get wild, as Logarius will channel and cast a buff that immediately invigorates him, causing him to suddenly be ferally aggressive and constantly be launching sword swinging combos right in the player's face.

While others may argue that there are other more entertaining bosses, few would argue the notion, at least, that Martyr Logarius is the most balanced boss in the game. He is a truly stiff challenge. If the player comes here as early as possible, he is likely the hardest boss they've faced to this point. Yet, he has an extremely exploitable weakness to parrying, and can be staggered if the player hits him enough, so there is healthy room for counterplay too.

Again, this is my pick for best boss in the game. And personally, Martyr Logarius may be my favorite boss in all of From Software, as well as one of my favorite in all of video gaming. This one truly encapsulates a lot of what makes "Bloodborne" as great as it is.
8. Once the boss is defeated, the player gets a lamp and also receives the Crown of Illusions headpiece. Other than that, they receive nothing of note. Boss is dead, that must be it! Is there anything else left to see here?

Answer: Yes

By immediately equipping the Crown of Illusions inside the boss room of the now defeated Martyr Logarius, a cutscene will play. Surprise surprise, putting the Crown of Illusions on let the player see through Martyr Logarius' illusionary wall, which was shielding the Vileblood Throne from view. By equipping the Crown of Illusions just once, this throne room immediately reveals itself, and permanently.

The player only has to put the headpiece on once, and the throne room will never disappear even if they take it off.
9. Queen Annalise can be found and talked to here. She is a covenant leader. What covenant can she grant the player access to?

Answer: Vilebloods

Annalise is known as the Queen of the Vilebloods. Funnily enough, despite being massively opposed to Martyr Logarius and the Executioners who worked under him, the soundtrack attributed to Martyr Logarius during his boss fight is named 'Queen of the Vilebloods' officially.

By kneeling when Annalise asks for it and speaking to her, she will grant the player entry to the Vileblood covenant. This is a PvP centric covenant, where the player receives Blood Dregs any time they defeat another player in PvP. These Blood Dregs can then be offered to Annalise for covenant progression.
10. In Annalise's abode, the Unopened Summons can be retrieved. Old Hunter Alfred is extremely interested in this item, and will merrily receive it from the player should they offer it to him. However, this has a very twisted, grotesque, likely unexpected outcome. What will Alfred do when given this item?

Answer: Brutally and graphically commit a murder

If the player gives Alfred the Unopened Summons, they may notice his tone of voice seems almost too gleeful. A very keen, attentive eye may also notice that Alfred's right eye will instantaneously become very slightly bloodshot on the very moment he receives the Unopened Summons. However, Alfred has been extremely friendly to this point and has even offered to help the player in multiple boss fights to this point. What's the worst he could possibly do?

The worst, it turns out, is murdering Queen Annalise in maybe the single most graphic, deranged way one could carry out a murder. After giving him the summons, the player can go to Annalise's throne room and find the throne she sat in is entirely coated in blood, with the seat specifically featuring organs and fleshy parts strewn about.

Alfred will then specifically, in the most crazed way possible, make fun of Annalise for having "every inside on the outside, for all the world to see" and will loudly take triumph in his apparent victory over the Vilebloods.

It is actually possible to completely resurrect Annalise from this horrid state. But if the player doesn't want her to die, and brutally, in the first place, it would be best to avoid giving Alfred the Unopened Summons.
