Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where is Vicar Amelia encountered?

Answer: Grand Cathedral

Upon entering the Grand Cathedral for the very first time, the player will see an introductory cutscene. In it, Amelia is found, praying in human form, before she suddenly transforms into the giant, hideous, white haired beast that ends up becoming her boss fight.
2. As the standing Vicar, Amelia is the successor to one of the most important characters in the game's lore, one who appears as a boss fight in the DLC. Who did Amelia inherit the title from?

Answer: Laurence

Laurence's title is literally "Laurence the First Vicar", so as someone who is a Vicar and positioned in the central building of the Healing Church, Amelia was Laurence's successor. Laurence's skull itself is even found in her boss room, acquirable once she has been slain.

Ironically, the reason Laurence even needed a successor was that he fell victim to the scourge of beasts and became that which he once hunted. This takes place with Amelia too, as the player witnesses her transformation into a beast.
3. In terms of progressing the game until eventually beating it, is Vicar Amelia a mandatory or optional boss?

Answer: Mandatory

Amelia's defeat is necessary so that the player can learn the password to gain access into the Forbidden Woods, and so the player can acquire Laurence's Skull and advance the game into Night phase. It is impossible to progress the game without defeating her, making her a mandatory boss.
4. As a beast enemy, Vicar Amelia has two weaknesses. What is one of them?

Answer: Fire

Beasts across this game, with one single exception, are weak to Fire. That one exception is Laurence the First Vicar. His successor, however, does not enjoy being set ablaze, nor does she enjoy the same Serrated weapons which all beasts, including Laurence, are weak to.
5. There is an Old Hunter available to the player for assistance with Vicar Amelia. Who can be summoned for help here?

Answer: Old Hunter Henriette

Henriette is armed with a Kirkhammer and a Repeater Pistol, and will also make frequent use of Molotov Cocktails which she has an infinite supply of.

Interestingly, Henriette is a summon to help with Vicar Amelia, then she isn't seen again until the player goes to the DLC and can use Henriette for assistance with Laurence, the First Vicar and Ludwig the Accursed. Though not explicitly stated anywhere, it is possible that Henriette's motivation would be lashing out at the church in helping the player to kill three of the Healing Church's biggest, most influential members.

That said, she wields weaponry developed by the church itself. Was she once a member, who eventually became disgruntled and turned against them? Was she formally excommunicated? We will sadly never know.
6. In order to summon an Old Hunter, or another player, the player either must first try to fight Vicar Amelia alone at least once, or they'll require a key item. What key item unlocks the ability to summon help?

Answer: Hunter Chief Emblem

By using the Hunter Chief Emblem to unlock the gate connecting Cathedral Ward to the Grand Cathedral, the player can summon either Old Hunter Henriette or another player for assistance with the area, up to and including Vicar Amelia.

It is still possible to summon for Vicar Amelia without the Hunter Chief Emblem. However, this would then require the player to first activate Amelia's boss fight by entering her boss room, triggering the introduction cutscene and beginning the fight. The player doesn't have to die to Amelia, as they could quit out of the game or use a (Bold) Hunter's Mark to warp back to a lamp. Without the Hunter Chief Emblem, the player must trigger the boss fight in general, and they can then summon aid.
7. Vicar Amelia presents a unique challenge to the player- she is capable of healing for quite a lot. To deny this healing, what item should the player use?

Answer: Numbing Mist

When thrown and successfully landing on someone, Numbing Mist will prevent whoever it hits from healing in any way for thirty seconds. This includes bosses, such as Vicar Amelia, against whom Numbing Mist is a vital resource to have.

If the player does not bring Numbing Mist, Vicar Amelia can heal herself for about a third of her health bar, a maneuver she will perform once every few minutes. The healing can alternatively be interrupted through staggering her when she goes to heal, which can be done by simply relentlessly attacking her when she tries to heal. That said, Numbing Mist is a far more reliable, easier to execute, method at preventing healing.
8. On defeat, Vicar Amelia will drop the Gold Pendant. When crushed, it becomes the Gold Blood Gem, which can be equipped to any Trick Weapon. On equipment, the Gold Blood Gem grants a 12.6% bonus to what?

Answer: Damage against Beasts

It is a simple, flat bonus of 12.6% damage to any Beast type enemies the player finds, ever. Unless the player has obsessively scoured the Chalice Dungeons by this point, this immediately will become the best Blood Gem in the game for them. There are many, many Beast enemies in this game.

Although the Gold Blood Gem does eventually get usurped as the game progresses on, for the early game, this is a pretty magnificent Blood Gem.
9. Famously, Vicar Amelia shares an iconic boss soundtrack with another boss. Who is it?

Answer: Cleric Beast

The lore explanation for this is that both Cleric Beast and Vicar Amelia, as humans, were major figures within the Healing Church who, to the shock and surprise of everyone in-game, turned into beasts. The music itself is meant to depict a shocking, horrifying, awe inspiring monstrosity, which is exactly what these two beasts are.
10. In defeating Amelia and obtaining the Gold Pendant, the player can opt to view the pendant and see that it mentions an "old adage" developed to grant high ranking members of the church access to the gates of Byrgenwerth. What is this 'adage', essentially functioning as a password?

Answer: Fear the old blood

This is a mantra originated from Master Willem of Byrgenwerth, that was endorsed by the Healing Church. It is meant to suggest that the Blood of Great Ones, while boasting amazing regenerative and healing properties, is bound to drive those who indulge in it into madness, explaining why people just up and turn into beasts suddenly.

As the Healing Church infamously used this blood to, well, "heal", it is not surprising that its leaders and representatives almost all turned into beasts. Meanwhile, Willem's adage "fear the old blood" is meant to deter the usage of blood to heal for this exact reason. This is likely why Willem can be found later, not having turned into a beast.
