Answer: Forbidden Woods

This is the longest area in the entire game in terms of distance between the lamp and the boss fight. The player will absolutely want to ensure they unlock the shortcut from the lamp, leading to an elevator deeper into the Forbidden Woods. That way, if they do die to the Shadows of Yharnam, which is very, very possible, the trek to rematch them won't be quite as lengthy.

Whether these enemies are human or not is unclear, but they are at least definitely not beasts, kin or Great Ones. They simply do not have the same profiles as those enemy types. They act and sound more human than anything, but they also boasts capabilities which very much transcend regular humans.

As such, perhaps it would be more appropriate to label these enemies simply as 'shadows'. But in any event, they are doing their own thing, and do not abide or identify as any known enemy type in this game.

Answer: Bolt

The Shadows of Yharnam are actually extremely weak to Bolt, moreso than even Kin enemies who are famously weak to this element. Thankfully, the player could have obtained numerous different ways to exploit this. The Tonitrus melee weapon is probably the best at taking advantage of a Bolt weakness. But, any melee weapon capable of receiving Bolt Paper can do the job just as well too.

Answer: Kill him

Earlier in their playthrough, the player had the opportunity to fight Henryk. To do this, they must have spoken to Eileen the Crow in Central Yharnam, then progressed the game normally until reaching the Cathedral Ward. After doing this and reloading the area, they can find Eileen fighting Henryk in the Oedon Chapel. The player must simultaneously kill Henryk here while ensuring Eileen survives the fight. If they do this, Henryk will be summonable in several different areas, with this boss fight being one such instance.

However, if the player has made it this far and hasn't done Eileen's quest, it is too late to obtain Henryk's services. Eileen's quest becomes permanently sealed off if the player doesn't progress it enough by the time they've killed Vicar Amelia, which would be mandatory to do before reaching this boss fight.

Answer: Impurity

The Impurity Rune is tied to the League covenant, of which Younger Madaras Twin is a member of. It is obtained by completing Valtr, master of the League's brief questline. It can be equipped through the Memory Rune Workshop at the Hunter's Dream.

Answer: Shaman Bone Blade

A Shaman Bone Blade, when used against an enemy susceptible to it, basically just brainwashes the enemy and turns it into an ally to the player for 20 seconds. This is more than enough time for any afflicted Shadow to deal major damage to its brethren.

The player can carry three Shaman Bone Blades at a time, so with efficient use, they can cause a full minute of in-fighting for this boss fight. This is enough to basically trivialize the entire encounter on its own.

Answer: Visceral Attacks restore health

Blood Rapture is a type of Caryll Rune with three different levels. The version received through this boss fight is the Novice version, the weakest. With it equipped, when the player lands a Visceral Attack, they will heal for 200 health. The highest version, the Advanced Blood Rapture, grants 300 health, with the Intermediate version being at a square 250 in the middle.

Answer: Mergo's Loft

Right after defeating Micolash, Host of the Nightmare, the player can obtain the Mergo's Loft lamp. From here, going up two flights of stairs and basically doing a 180 degree turn will place the player face to face with more Shadows of Yharnam. This time, they don't have second or third phases, so they are significantly easier than the boss version. But, they still have boss-quantity health bars, so especially for regular enemies, they are not a walk in the park.

As regular enemies, they will respawn infinitely as well.

Three groups of three Shadows linger in Mergo's Loft, though they're thankfully at least positioned so far away from each other that there is basically no chance the player will have to deal with more than three Shadows at a time.

The Shadows of Yharnam are essentially devoted bodyguards to Queen Yharnam, a mysterious woman the player encounters a few times for very brief periods of time. The Shadows of Yharnam are positioned in places which Queen Yharnam is either actively inhabiting or is likely to inhabit.

The Forbidden Woods, where the Shadows first appear, is directly in front of Byrgenwerth. Here, the player can briefly encounter Queen Yharnam after defeating Rom, explaining why the Shadows were even in the Forbidden Woods in the first place.

At Mergo's Loft, where nine more Shadows are found, Queen Yharnam is once again found just before the boss room for Mergo's Wet Nurse.

Finally, Queen Yharnam appears as a boss fight right at the tail end of the Chalice Dungeons. And what regular enemy appears in the Isz dungeon right before her boss fight? You guessed it, the Shadows of Yharnam.
