Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Heading southwest out of Lookout Landing will bring you to the Gerudo Desert. Which describes its temperature?

Answer: Both of these

Talking to Purah in Lookout Landing with regards to this Regional Phenomenon will set you on a path southwest towards the expansive Gerudo Desert, where it appears something has gone a bit awry during the Upheaval. If you haven't already wandered this way in your travels, the most direct route will take you to Gerudo Canyon Pass along a deep-carved river trail through the mountains, past at least one soon-to-be-abandoned stable, and to a Gerudo guard dead-set on quizzing Link before he passes into the new environment.

The truth is that Gerudo Desert can be both hot and cold; during the day it's immensely hot and at night it's below freezing. Having outfits or food to mitigate both is essential.
2. Once Link steps foot into the sands of the Gerudo Desert he'll encounter the Sand Shroud. It prevents the use of which of these?

Answer: The map

As though the weather weren't enough to contend with in the Gerudo Desert, the region has, recently, been plagued by inclement storms that don't seem to leave. In addition to creating large sand twisters that can send Link into the sky for a higher vantage point (the need to make lemonade out of lemons), the Sand Shroud, as locals call it, will also cast much of the surrounding area in a dull, smoggy pallor with low visibility.

The storm can be so dense, within it, that Link will lose the ability to navigate with his map on Hyrule's surface, at least until he can get clear of the weather.

He can otherwise use all other Purah Pad functionality.
3. Gerudo Town, upon first visit, will seem quite empty. Which of these can Link follow, below the settlement, to help him find where the locals are hiding?

Answer: Messages in bottles

Link will eventually have to find his way to the main settlement of the Gerudo Desert, Gerudo Town, which at one time was home to a full citizenry of warrior women (but who've relaxed their tendency to avoid letting Voe-- men, that is-- into their city walls). The catch is that the once-bustling market town and oasis isn't going to be so busy when Link arrives. Instead, he'll have to find his way into their hiding spot deep beneath the town, likely by following a trail of messages in bottles in the canals below the streets.

In the bunker beneath the throne room, Link will find his way to Buliara, Guard Captain of the Gerudo, who will lay out what's happened and point in the direction he needs to head next.
4. Riju, the inevitable Sage of Lighting, can cast beams of lightning with her new power. What does Link need to use to control said power?

Answer: Arrows

Riju's people will point Link in the direction of the North Gerudo Ruins to locate her, and they can do so quickly (enough) by passing through the Valley of Silent Statues, connected by the tunnel system to the rooms beneath Gerudo Village.

The Chief of the Gerudo will be there using her newly-found powers to practice creating lightning strikes on training dummies, a necessity to protect her people considering that the Sand Shroud has been causing havoc since Hyrule Castle rose from its spot. With the Sand Shroud came the Gibdos, and the easiest way to bring them down is with non-physical attacks. She'll show Link how to use her power, which has her creating a growing radius in which she can fire lightning strikes, only hitting the spot where Link shoots an arrow. And not a moment too soon, since they'll have to head to Kara Kara Bazaar as quickly as possible to stop the attacking Gibdos.
5. The Gibdos plaguing the Gerudo Desert appear to be created by large hives that activate to become what colour?

Answer: Purple

Riju's lightning training will be interrupted because of reports coming in from the Gerudo Guard-- Gibdos are attacking Kara Kara Bazaar. As soon as they arrive, Link and Riju will need to work in tandem, destroy the hives there, and kill all the Gibdos to save the outpost. When they do, however, Zelda will appear in the distance, intensifying the Sand Shroud and making her way to Gerudo Town proper.

What follows will be a siege on the Gerudo home wherein Link will need to work with Captain Teake to deploy forces to the city's three gates and Padda to beef up the defenses. If he can destroy the three hives at the edges of town and push back the Gibdos, Riju will commit to following the instructions on the mural in the Gerudo Shelter and locating the Lightning Temple.
6. A mural in Gerudo Town will point Link in the direction of three pillars that will open the way to the Lightning Temple. What does he need to do at these pillars?

Answer: Turn them to shine their lights

The mural beneath Gerudo Town will allude to a puzzle involving red pillars: "Standing back-to-back with the throne, witness red pillars across a vast sea. Unite the pillars in light to reveal the lightning stone and open the way. You who can hear my voice, come to me. I await you."

What this means is that Link will need to head out into the storms, solo, to locate three lighthouse-esque beacons, turning them and operating them in order to triangulate three beams of light. What this will do is create a lightning rod, right in the center of the beams, that Riju can zap to fulfill the requirements of the myth, and with that, the Lightning Temple, will rise from the sands.
7. Link faces off against the Scourge of the Lightning Temple, Queen Gohma, before even stepping foot in the dungeon.

Answer: True

As Link and Riju advance towards the entrance of the Lightning Temple they'll find that the door is both covered in a massive Gidbo hive and flanked by two more, just like they encountered in Kara Kara Bazaar and Gerudo Town. When the one above the door is destroyed, however, it will open to reveal the boss of the dungeon, the Queen Gibdo, who will fly down to engage in battle.

It's an early battle as far as boss fights go, but it also isn't the only fight you'll have against Queen Gibdo. Using Riju's electricity to zap it out of the sky a few times, Link will keep it at bay, sending it to the roof of the temple where it will keep maintaining the Sand Shroud. The only way to fight it again is by getting through the dungeon.
8. How many batteries does Link need to recharge within the Lightning Temple?

Answer: Four

When Link reaches the Room of Ascension in the middle of the Lightning Temple he'll find the Zonai control panel in control of a raisable platform. The problem is that the platform won't move, being reliant on the charges of four different batteries scattered in hidden hallways and rooms throughout the multi-layered temple. To charge up these batteries, Link and Riju need to use lightning to strike lightning rods, not unlike the one they hit to raise the temple from the desert sands. Turninf on all four will send them to the boss chamber.
9. Which of these rooms appears on the highest floor in the Lightning Temple?

Answer: Room of Glorious Light

Unlike many other temples in the game, Link encounters several dedicated rooms as he passes through the Lightning Temple which, as it seems, was intentionally constructed as a ceremonial space. In addition to creating a home base within the multi-level Room of Ascension, Link will encounter puzzles and to-dos in the Room of Hopeful Light, the Room of Natural Light, the Room of Light and Fire, the Room of Offered Light, and the Room of Light and Shade, most of which will contain batteries or key encounters.

The temple ends off on the seventh floor at the top of the structure, and if Link doesn't take the platform up there to fight Queen Gibdo in one last battle, he can still use the Purah Pad to ascend into the Room of Glorious Light to see it for himself. The room also contains the Sage of Lightning's Sacred Stone, hidden behind a Gibdo hive in the wall.
10. If you've completed the Lightning Temple as your fourth temple, there are no more temples to visit and, thus, no more 'Regional Phenomena' to investigate per Purah's request.

Answer: False

Once the Queen Gibdo is destroyed, Riju will take up the mantle as the Sage of Lightning, receiving kind words of encouragement from her ancestor and bearing both the lightning and the sacred stone of the Gerudo. She'll give the Vow of Riju, Sage of Lightning, willingly, assisting Link from afar for the remainder of his quest to find and save Princess Zelda.

In the meantime, with the Queen Gibdo dead, the Sand Shroud around the desert will abate, allowing the Gerudo people to emerge from their shelter and resume operations in Gerudo Town. The rebuilding will be a lengthy process, but it will bring the area back to the way it was-- or close to it-- in "Breath of the Wild".

At this point, if the Wind, Fire, and Water temples have also been completed, Link will be recommended a return trip to Purah at Lookout Landing, and there, the 'Regional Phenomena' quest will complete. That said, it doesn't mean there isn't at least one more temple waiting for him.
