Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which World 1 course are we visiting if we can NOT find a checkpoint flag?

Answer: Mount Beanpole

Fortunately, while there is no overtly linear approach to completing most courses in the game, a lot of locations will feature the classic Checkpoint Flag which, if hit, will act as a waymarker in case players happen to lose a life and need to restart the course.

The first such instance, at least in a normal level (leaving out the Chargin' Chuck Blockade), is World 1-3, Mount Beanpole, which has players climbing a massive mountain while dodging Cat Goombas and Piranha Plants. The ascent is uninterrupted, so falling off means we start from the bottom.
2. Where would we be in World 2 if we could encounter Touchstones for the first time?

Answer: Puffprod Peaks

World 2-2, or Puffprod Peaks, is quite unlike the environment in which it's found. While World 2 is more of a desert, Puffprod Peaks takes place on a moonlit hillside where Mario and friends need to climb the walls using Touchstones, white blocks that only move if you use the cursor to select them on Wii U (with the touchscreen) or using Switch motion controls. Touchstones only ever really appear, otherwise, in certain Captain Toad levels.

In the Wii U version of the game, this is also a stage in which we can encounter Propeller Platforms, which only move when the player blows into the Wii U touchpad. Due to the Switch controllers' capabilities, these are replaced with regular, moving lifts.
3. If we were facing our first auto-scrolling level of the game, which World would we be in?

Answer: World 3

Although most courses in the game allow you to roam around freely, Chain-Link Charge, found as World 3-2, is a lot more restrictive, giving Mario and the rest of the party a fixed camera that scrolls through the level at a steady rate, making maneuvering all the more difficult, especially with sliding fences blocking the route.

The big catch is that the level is set in a sky area, so we may be more likely to fall off the level entirely instead of tussle with the weak enemies found throughout the fences.
4. In which World 5 stage would we be able to ride Plessie?

Answer: Sunshine Seaside

Having previously been featured in World 1-4 (Plessie's Plunging Falls), Plessie returns for the back half of this first World 5 stage set almost entirely along a beachfront. Once Mario collects five special coins to unlock the route to the checkpoint flag, he'll spend the rest of the level on Plessie, careening down an underground water course en route to the goal pole.

Although the first outing with Plessie took place on a much wider track, this one will have us trying to keep it together on a narrow, edgeless waterway.
5. Which World 6 stage costs us 100 Green Stars to access?

Answer: Hands-On Hall

One of the more unique levels in the game, Hands-On Hall has us headed into a fighting dojo, climbing our way up through (and outside) the building to reach the flagpole at the top. In addition to needing to find the correct path and collect special coins along the way, we'll need to use special controls to open the sliding doors found along the walls of the stage, opening passages that will actually lead the way to the end. There's no other way to make it there.

If we didn't head to Hands-On Hall (paying our Green Stars to do it), we could instead take the path to Deep Jungle Drift (World 6-4) and skip it completely.
6. Where are we if we know, for sure, that we're in World Castle?

Answer: Switchblack Ruins

World Castle, the game's seventh World, puts us right on Bowser's doorstep as we pass through a handful of lava-themed levels. Switchblack Ruin contains some lava, but most of this unique stage involves navigating extremely dark tunnels into dangerous corridors filled with switch panels, required to advance to subsequent caves. Acting as World Castle-2, it's one of the more self-contained stages at this later point in the game.

Conkdor Canyon is in World 2; Ant Trooper Hill is in World 4; Spooky Seasick Wreck is in World 6.
7. If we're in a Mystery House constructed around the uses of the Power Bell, we must be in World Bowser.

Answer: True

Mystery House Claw Climb, as it's known, is unlocked when we complete World Bowser-6, A Beam in the Dark, and open up a pipe to a nearby overlook. While most Mystery Houses are short and sweet, this one contains ten Green Stars, all of which we can only collect by leveraging our speed and skills, honed to make optimal use of the Power Bell and Mario's cat form. All of these will, by and large, involve climbing walls and breaking blocks in some way.

There are two Power Bells in the first segment of this level, so we don't need to bring anything with us.
8. We may be in World Star, but in which level would we be if we had to hit a Rosalina Switch?

Answer: Rolling Ride Run

There are some (though very few) instances where we'll need to hit character-specific switches to get Stamps or Green Stars in the game, and one such instance is in World Star-3, Rolling Ride Run, where we'll have to spin rolling blocks and platforms to make our way through the stage. Partway through this, we'll have to hit a star-marked switch on the ground to get the Stamp, and it's quite the fortunate instance since Rosalina unlocks, as a character in World Star-2 (Super Galaxy), the level right before this one.
9. If we're in the World Mushroom Ghost House, which level are we in?

Answer: Gigantic Seasick Wreck

Slotting in as World Mushroom-6, Gigantic Seasick Wreck is a remix of the earlier Spooky Seasick Wreck, which appears as World 6-2 earlier on in the game. The difference is that in this version of the level, we'll be up against the gale-force winds of a number of Ty-Foos who'll aim to knock us off the ghost ship platforms presented to us.

While there are no ghosts this time around (despite it appearing as a Ghost House on the map), there are a lot of Mega Mushrooms, which are to our benefit in bullying our way through the wind and enemies to the end.
10. In which World are we if we're completing a Captain Toad level?

Answer: World Crown

Though Captain Toad recurs frequently in the game, marking a notable break between the much broader open levels that Mario faces by providing smaller, tighter-packed level spaces for this adventuring Toad, World Flower doesn't feature any such stage-- it's only preoccupied with revisiting past courses much in the same way that World Mushroom does.

There is, however, Captain Toad's Fiery Finale found in World Crown, acting as not only the capstone for his adventures (at least until "Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker") but one of the final stages in general.
