Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The railway network of the United Kingdom has its roots in the Victorian era and it has grown in a largely organic fashion for the majority of its existence. Whilst the long term lack of a centralised vision for the network has created many difficulties, the pioneering approach to railway infrastructure has led to regions that each have their own distinctive character. This is most evident in the wildly varying architecture of railway stations across the country. Just as varied are the stations' names!

Stations in Wales include the likes of Pembroke Dock and Cardiff Bay, the former serving the town in which Henry VII was born and the latter a station serving the political hub of the Welsh capital. Station names aren't always unique, with "Queen Street" being shared by stations in both Cardiff and Glasgow, Scotland.

Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Piccadilly and Oxenholme Lake District are all to be found in the northwest of England; the latter of these three stations becomes particularly busy in the summer months as tourists make a dash for Windermere. The Midlands is fairly easy to navigate by rail; the region is home to the likes of Worcester Shrub Hill and the significant interchange station, Birmingham New Street. If the south coast of England is more your scene - or perhaps you wish to board a ferry to the Isle of Wight to bask in some sunshine - then Portsmouth Harbour would be a useful terminus to consider.

There is more to London's significant transport infrastructure than just the Underground ("the Tube"). The Elizabeth Line has proved to be an effective solution to the problems previously experienced travelling between the east and west of the UK capital. One of the many stations on the Elizabeth Line network is Ealing Broadway, serving the west London settlement of Ealing, "Queen of the Suburbs".

Incorrect options are predominantly near misses:

Edinburgh Louis Stevenson -> Edinburgh Waverley ('Waverley' is a Walter Scott novel.)
Port Talbot Garden City -> Port Talbot Parkway (Port Talbot is not renowned for its greenery!)
Derby North Lakes -> Derby (Derby is simply Derby; North Lakes is in Penrith, Cumbria.)
Ryde Seafront -> Ryde Esplanade (Ryde is also served by St John's Road and Pier Head.)
Dalston Circus -> Dalston Junction (Kingsland is another London Overground station in Dalston.)
Dunfermline King Charles -> Dunfermline Queen Margaret (named for the nearby hospital.)
Slough Riverside -> Slough (Riverside is one of the two stations in neighbouring Windsor & Eton.)
Bicester Hamlet -> Bicester Village (controversially took the name of a shopping outlet in 2015.)
