Question 3 of 10
3. My human crossed Abyssinian and Siamese cats to try to develop a Siamese cat with ticked points. I was not at all what she was looking for! Question 4 of 10
4. Our humans, obviously jocular types, named us Tes, Ticle and Pusse. Hal and Tommie Meadow described us variously as native cats from Southeast Asia and as American-born Abyssinian cats. Passports and papers are full of conflicting details. They later claimed to have acquired us while Hal was on a secret CIA mission; he said he had to falsify our true story for security reasons. We don't know, and cat-loving humans are still yowling and spatting about the matter. We do resemble Abyssinians, but have our own appearance and appeal! We're the smallest registered breed of cat. We're... Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. My name is Blackberry. I was found in Louisiana hiding under a pickup truck. Fortunately, my kittens inherited my endearing appearance! Many assumed I would never found a breed because I look like some "orthopedically challenged" dog breeds, but in over 20 years this problem has never developed. I'm a... Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. My name is Josephine. My human told several tales about my origin, some featuring space aliens, a car accident and/or secret genetic engineering by the FBI. Yeeks, what a character! When the leading cat associations were slow to accept me, she founded her own international cat organization and trademarked me to boot! I'm a(n)... Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. I'm Council Rock Farm Adams of HiFi, but just call me Adam. We're all good old-fashioned farm folks here! Despite the aristocratic moniker, I come of honest barn-cat parents and just lucked into a unique natural hairdo! I was born in New York and I'm the first gentleman of a delightful American breed! I'm a(n)... Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Hi, I'm Miss dePesto, generally called Pest by my humans (who, me?) We barncat types seem to have a knack for developing exotic hairstyles! I was discovered living in a shelter in Montana, and I showed my American heritage by bearing my first litter on July fourth! Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Hi, my name's Pixie! I have this really wild charm, believed to be inherited from actual wild bobcats, but nowadays we have no detectable DNA of theirs, so we're all pet! I'm a(n)...
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. This breed of cat is apparently derived only from domesticated cat breeds, even though it looks very wild! (Note: these are all quite rare breeds. You will most likely never see one in your local shows!) Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We met up with our humans Laura Lushington and Sonia Halliday while they were on a photographic tour in Central/Southern Asia. A very ancient breed, we are considered cultural treasures by both the Armenians and the Kurds; the Turks also claim us and forbid our export. We're...

Answer: Turkish Vans

We came to England with our humans, where Laura, our first breeder, had trouble getting us accepted for registry because both her cattery name and her breed name contained the word "Van!" She refused to consider renaming the cattery, so we had to wait until she retired. Cat people can often be described as strange.
2. My human, Miss Cox of Devonshire, was intrigued by my wavy coat and started trying to breed more cats like me. My descendants today are the Devon Rex breed. My name was...

Answer: Kirlee

Kallibunker was the founding father of the unrelated Cornish Rex breed. Curly was the first lady of the LaPerm breed. I don't know who Crizzlie was. I just made her up.
3. My human crossed Abyssinian and Siamese cats to try to develop a Siamese cat with ticked points. I was not at all what she was looking for! I was sold off as a pet, but my exotic beauty created such excitement that my breeder set to work developing others like me. My name is Tonga, and I'm a(n)...

Answer: Ocicat

The Bengal is one of the few cat breeds that included wildcat heritage, although none is detectable in its DNA today. The Somali is an Abyssinian-type cat with long hair. The Egyptian Mau is a very ancient natural breed. It still carries its honored name from the days of the pyramids!
We're...

Answer: Singapuras

Created by Hal and Tommie Meadow of Houston, TX, we're becoming more popular all the time! Somalis are long-haired Abyssinians, Sokokes are a rare tabby-patterned breed from Kenya, and singing cats frequently get showered with boots and other missiles.
5. My name is Blackberry. I was found in Louisiana hiding under a pickup truck. Fortunately, my kittens inherited my endearing appearance! Many assumed I would never found a breed because I look like some "orthopedically challenged" dog breeds, but in over 20 years this problem has never developed. I'm a...

Answer: Munchkin

People familiar with Dachshunds and Basset Hounds were afraid my short legs and long torso would result in similar problems. Luckily, it hasn't happened. I can jump, even if not so high as some breeds, and I can find mischief to get into with the best!
6. My name is Josephine. My human told several tales about my origin, some featuring space aliens, a car accident and/or secret genetic engineering by the FBI. Yeeks, what a character! When the leading cat associations were slow to accept me, she founded her own international cat organization and trademarked me to boot! I'm a(n)...

Answer: Ragdoll

Ann Baker, my breeder, became so obnoxious with her crazy ideas and her meddling in other breeders' work with "her" Ragdolls that many of them rejected her and started to called their breed Ragamuffins! Because of this, I'm the First Lady of two cat breeds!
By the way, despite a frequently-repeated rumor, I have normal pain sense, so please don't try pulling my hair! I was bred as a huge, fluffy, sweet pet, and I'm all of these in more than generous helpings!

Answer: American Wirehair

Since I'm descended from American Shorthair-type cats, I share their healthy constitution, good disposition, and willingness to catch any mouse that's causing trouble!
8. Hi, I'm Miss dePesto, generally called Pest by my humans (who, me?) We barncat types seem to have a knack for developing exotic hairstyles! I was discovered living in a shelter in Montana, and I showed my American heritage by bearing my first litter on July fourth!

Answer: Selkirk Rex

My human first said she named me after the Selkirk Mountain Range, which isn't located anywhere close to our home! When this was pointed out to her, she admitted we were named after Mr. Selkirk, her stepfather. She just really liked the name! These cat people!
9. Hi, my name's Pixie! I have this really wild charm, believed to be inherited from actual wild bobcats, but nowadays we have no detectable DNA of theirs, so we're all pet! I'm a(n)...

Answer: Pixie-Bob

Mine is the first breed standard that specifically allows multiple toes (polydactyly). Feline feet fetishists, rejoice!
10. This breed of cat is apparently derived only from domesticated cat breeds, even though it looks very wild! (Note: these are all quite rare breeds. You will most likely never see one in your local shows!)

Answer: California Spangled Cat

Trademarked, first displayed as a Neiman Marcus Christmas special, described by its developer Paul Casey as an attempt to preserve the snow leopard's fabulous markings, this American breed is all domestic cat. Casey was criticized for marketing his breed and selling it like any luxury product. In fact, it's a nice cat despite all the controversy.

The others come from crosses between
shorthaired domestic felines and their wild kinfolks. The Savannah is descended from the African serval; the Chausie is part Jungle Cat, more formally known as Felis chaus, and the
Mojave Desert Spotted Cat was first described in 1980. Found in the Mojave Desert, they live in colonies underground!
