This was Holliday's 2nd movie. She also created the role in the original Broadway production. Judy also appeared in such films as "It Should Happen to You", "The Marrying Kind" and her last, 1960's, "Bells are Ringing". She died of cancer in 1965 at the age of 43.

Carole was nicknamed the Ping Girl. By 1948, the once-promising beauty had a faltering movie career, five failed marriages and a broken affair with married actor Rex Harrison. Carole was under contract at 20th Century Fox until the mid-1940s. Starting in 1942 Carole joined the USO shows and entertained thousands of soldiers worldwide.

Head of 20th Century Fox, Darryl F Zanuck, had promised her great things as long as she played nice.

Veronica Lake acquired the nickname due to the natural way her long blonde hair fell over her right eye. She became an immediate star after being signed by Paramount studios and appearing as a trashy nightclub singer in 1941's "I Wanted Wings". In 1942 she found the perfect co-star, Alan Ladd. Ladd, who was only 5'2 was perfect for Lake who was roughly 4'9.

After being dropped by Paramount in 1948, Lake slid into obscurity, dying in 1973.

Onscreen, Jayne personified the perfect dumb blonde, but in reality, she had a reported IQ of 149, was a classically trained violinist and could speak five languages. Jayne dreamed of the kind of roles Marilyn Monroe was offered, but unfortunately for Jayne, besides 1 or 2 good roles, she was destined to star in such B and C grade films "The Fat Spy" and "Dog Eat Dog" to name a few.

Besides being a popular leading lady, having 7 ex-husbands and a daughter who murdered Lana's boyfriend, Lana had a penchant for being photographed in form-fitting sweaters, in the 1940s, that emphasized her bust line. Lana also had what many other blonde bombshells did not, an Oscar nomination for Best Actress of the Year in 1957 for her work in "Peyton Place".

Many countries had one or two, and Diana Dors was labeled the British Marilyn Monroe. The brunette Dors began her career in 1948, ultimately copying the platinum locks of Monroe in the mid-1950s. Her popularity soared in Britain in the 1950s. Her best acting honors came in 1956's "Yield to the Night". Dors played a woman convicted of murder.

Her arrival in America in 1956 and 2 subsequent films made in Hollywood did not impress the American public, and Dors went back to England where she continued in films till her death in 1984.

Kim Novak was discovered selling refrigerators and was signed to a long-term contract with Columbia Pictures in 1954. Some of her starring roles were in such 1950's classics as "Picnic", "The Man With The Golden Arm", "Pal Joey", and the Hitchcock classic "Vertigo".

In the 1960s, Novak, still sexy as ever, appeared in the 3rd remake of Somerset Maugham's drama "Of Human Bondage" and the 1965 film version of Daniel Defoe's bawdy novel "The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders".

Although never a top leading lady, Joey Heatherton became a household name from her many appearances on a variety of tv shows where she sang her heart out and feverishly kicked her heels up on stage. In the 1960s and 70s, she guest starred on practically every variety show on TV, had a very public wedding to an NFL player and she later became the spokesperson for Serta Mattresses.

Harlow was one of MGM Pictures' top box office draws and the original platinum blonde sex symbol. Her big break came in 1929 when Howard Hughes cast the 18-year-old in his all talking production of "Hell's Angels". Harlow signed with MGM in 1932 and remained a top box office attraction 'till her death of Uremic Poisoning in 1937.

Brigitte's frank attitude about nudity and sex in her films shocked and enthralled audience members. Under the guidance of director Roger Vadim, 22-year-old Bardot shot to international stardom as Juliette Hardy in "And God Created Woman", a woman in love with 2 brothers, one of which was her husband.

It wasn't until 1968 that Bardot appeared in her first English speaking film alongside Sean Connery, "Shalako".
