Jacob was in love with Laban's daughter Rachel and agreed to work for seven years in order to marry her. However, Laban had two daughters and made Jacob marry his older daughter Leah first. Then Jacob worked another seven years and married Rachel also. Mary and Joseph, Jesus' mother and her husband, are in the New Testament.

In the Arthurian legends Guinevere was married to King Arthur. Lancelot was the premier knight of the Round Table. Their love was considered one of the reasons for the downfall of Camelot. Isolde was married to King Mark of Cornwall but was passionately in love with Tristan.
In Greek legend Helen was the most beautiful woman in the world. She was married to King Menelaus but was abducted by Paris and carried off to Troy, thus causing the Trojan War.
In British legend Robin Hood and Maid Marian lived together in Sherwood Forest with a band of outlaws. They may not have been married to each other but neither was married to anyone else.

Fred and Wilma Flintstone lived in the prehistoric age with their daughter Pebbles and their pet dinosaur Dino. George and Jane Jetson lived in the future with their son and daughter Elroy and Judy and their dog Astro. Homer and Marge Simpson lived in Springfield with son Bart and daughters Lisa and Maggie. Cliff and Clair Huxtable lived in Brooklyn with daughters Sondra, Denise, Vanessa, and Rudy and son Theo on "The Cosby Show", which was a regular sitcom, not a cartoon series.

George Washington was the first U.S. President. His wife Martha was the first First Lady. Washington was her second husband. John Adams was the second president of the United States. His wife Abigail beseeched him to "remember the ladies" in his policies. Thomas Jefferson was the third U.S. president.

His wife Martha died before Jefferson became president. Jefferson is believed to have had an intimate relation with one of his slaves, Sally Hemmings. James Madison, the fourth U.S. president, and his wife Dolley were forced to flee the White House in 1814 when it was set on fire by British troops during the war of 1812, but were able to return before Madison left office.

William the Conqueror became King of England in 1066. His wife, Matilda of Flanders, documented his conquest in the Bayeaux tapestries. Queen Victoria had the longest reign in British history, from 1837 to 1901. She wore black for many years after her husband, Prince Albert, died in 1861. King Edward VIII abdicated the throne in 1936 in order to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee. Prince Charles was married to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 and the couple divorced in 1996. During Diana's lifetime Charles was heir to the throne, not a reigning monarch.

When he ascended to the throne as King Charles III in 2023 he was married to Camilla Parker-Bowles who became Queen Camilla.

Detectives Nick and Nora Charles were created by author Dashell Hammett in his book "The Thin Man" and were portrayed in movies by William Powell and Myrna Loy. Flapper couple and amateur detectives Tommy and Tuppence Beresford first appeared in Agatha Christie's book "The Secret Adversary". Mary Russell becomes Sherlock Holmes' partner in "The Beekeeper's Apprentice" and subsequent books by Laurie R. King. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were on the other side of the law. According to the FBI, they were believed to have committed at least 13 murders as well as robberies and burglaries.

Archie and Edith Bunker were played by Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton in "All in the Family" (1971-79). Mike and Carol Brady were played by Robert Reed and Florence Henderson in "The Brady Bunch" (1969-74). Desi Arnaz joined star Lucille Ball as Ricky Ricardo and Lucy in "I Love Lucy" (1951-1957). Ralph Kramden, played by Jackie Gleason, was married to Alice, played by Audrey Meadows in "The Honeymooners" (1955-56). Trixie and Ed Norton, played by Joyce Randolph and Art Carney, were their neighbors.

Harry and Bess Truman, Ike and Mamie Eisenhower, and Ronald and Nancy Reagan were all married couples. Jackie (Jacqueline Bouvier) was married to President John Kennedy, not his brother Robert. She later married Aristotle Onassis, after the death of President Kennedy.

Richard and Karen Carpenter were brother and sister, not husband and wife. Canadian folk musicians Ian Tyson and Sylvia Fricker were married in 1964, after having performed together for several years. Ike and Tina Turner were married in 1958 and divorced in 1976. Pop singers Sonny Bono and Cherilyn LaPierre were divorced in 1974.
