Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What year did Disney's California Adventure first open?

Answer: 2001

Disney's California Adventure theme park opened on February 8, 2001. There are several themed areas of the park: The Golden Gateway/Sunshine Plaza, The Golden State, Paradise Pier, Hollywood Pictures Back Lot, and A Bug's Land. A Bug's Land opened in 2002.

The Golden Gateway/Sunshine Plaza is the main entrance area of the park. The Golden State area features the popular "Soarin' Over California" ride. Paradise Pier is carnival-like and features the Sun Wheel and other rides. The Hollywood Pictures Back Lot features the Muppet Vision 3D attraction and the Hyperion Theater.

A Bug's Land has rides and attractions for children, as well as an area called Bountiful Valley Farm.
2. What is the name of the roller coaster at Disney's California Adventure?

Answer: California Screamin'

Unlike many roller coasters, this roller coaster launches you like a rocket at the beginning. A speaker in the headrest plays choreographed music as you encounter each hill, twist, turn and loop. Your picture is taken towards the very end of the ride, so prepare to smile. Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain are roller coaster-type rides at Disneyland.
3. There's a tall old-looking building called the Hollywood Tower Hotel. What is the name of the ride it houses?

Answer: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride tells the story of guests of the Hollywood Tower Hotel. You learn their story when you walk inside. The ride is 13 stories tall. It is a drop ride. Guests are lifted up and down during the ride. At one point of the ride, the doors open and riders can see a nice, but brief view of the park.

It is located in the area of the park called the Hollywood Pictures Back Lot.
4. What was the original name of the giant ferris wheel?

Answer: The Sun Wheel

When Disney's California Adventure first opened in 2001, the giant ferris wheel was called The Sun Wheel. It featured both stationary and swinging gondolas.
5. Which ride makes you feel like you are gliding over different areas of California?

Answer: Soarin' Over California

The ride itself is a three-row glider with a large movie screen set in front of the glider. Each row is lifted above the other rows. Soarin' Over California makes the rider feel as if they are really soaring over different parts of California. The ride even incorporates the sense of smell. For example, as you soar over an orange grove, a scent of oranges is released.
6. What is the name of the area that features Flik's Fun Fair and Bountiful Valley Farm?

Answer: A Bug's Land

Flik's Fun Fair is a group of rides targeted for children. Bountiful Valley Farm is an area where one can learn about California's farming history, climb aboard farming equipment and cool off in the Irrigation Station, a water play area.
7. Maliboomer is a drop ride.

Answer: true

Maliboomer resembles a carnival test-your-strength type game. The ride launches you 180 feet in four seconds and then bounces up and down a few times before it ends.
8. The Grizzly River Run ride is a log ride similar to Splash Mountain at Disneyland.

Answer: False

The Grizzly River Run is a raft ride that makes riders feel they are rafting through the wilderness. Each raft holds eight guests. Unlike some raft rides, the Grizzly River Run includes a couple of drops.
9. Riders wear 3-D glasses on the ride, Toy Story Mania.

Answer: true

Toy Story Mania opened on June 17, 2008. It is a ride where riders wear 3-D glasses and use a gun-like device to shoot at various targets throughout the ride.
10. Who are the stars of a 3-D movie attraction located in the Hollywood Pictures Back Lot area at Disney's California Adventure?

Answer: The Muppets

The Muppets star in Muppet Vision 3-D, one of two 3-D movie experiences at Disney's California Adventure. The other 3-D attraction is called "It's Tough to be a Bug", which is based on the movie, "A Bug's Life". This attraction is located in the A Bug's Land area.

As with many other Disney attractions, Muppets 3-D features a few animatronic figures as part of the theatre. For example, Statler and Waldorf can be seen sitting at their usual balcony seats. There is also a Muppet Vision 3-D attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida.
