This figure was a direct evolution of Walt Disney's groundbreaking animatronic from the 1964 New York World's Fair. For the 1971 Magic Kingdom debut, Imagineers upgraded Lincoln's original hydraulic and pneumatic systems with digital switching technology.

This allowed for significantly more lifelike facial expressions and complex bodily movements, making it the most technologically advanced human audio-animatronic of its time.
