1. Who was Aang's mentor?

Answer: Monk Gyatso

He was also a close friend of Aang's, he often used unorthodox methods of teaching airbending. They would launch pies through the air at passing monks who served as targets. He was killed by the Fire nation and seeing his body caused the Avatar state for Aang.

2. Which temple was Aang's home?

Answer: Southern Air Temple

The Southern Air Temple and the Northern Temple were both male only and the Eastern and Western were female only. Momo was found in the Southern Air Temple early on in the series.

3. What did Aang use to gain Appa's trust when they first met?

Answer: An apple

You see this scene when Appa is reminiscing in the episode "Appa's Lost Days".
Appa also remembers flying with a group of other Flying Bison and the Storm, in which he and Aang were trapped 100 years before the series.

4. What did Aang do when he was young that proved he was the Avatar?

Answer: Picked out certain toys out of thousands.

The toys he picked were a clay turtle flute for Water. A wooden hog monkey for Earth. A string-powered propeller for Air and a wooden hand drum for Fire.

His friends later invented a game that used the air scooter. Unfortunately, they had discovered Aang was the Avatar and wouldn't let him play because it would give his team an unfair advantage.

He overheard the elder monks discussing taking him away from Gyatso and this caused him to flee on Appa. Strangely, the Eastern Air temple is supposed to be girls only.

Answer: Sozin

Sozin used the Firebending enhancing powers of a comet to launch a strike on the Air Nomads. Ironically, the person he tried to kill with that was the only one who escaped.

This was one of the things Aang mentions has changed about the place when he sees it again. None of the others have been mentioned in the series so far.

This was a rule Aang broke when he struck down a buzzard-wasp even after he had rescued Momo from it. This is also strange because when Aang found the body of Monk Gyatso, he was surrounded by dead Fire Nation soldiers.
