Espoo was a small farming town until World War Two, after which it grew rapidly, gaining city status in 1972. Its proximity to Helsinki made it a popular place of residence for commuters.

Answer: Elbe

The Elbe is nearly 1,100 km in length, making it one of the longest in central Europe. It rises in the Krkonose mountains of Czechia, and flows through Germany in a roughly north western direction. The largest city that it flows through is Hamburg, Europe's third-largest port.

Answer: Eindhoven

The largest city in the province of North Brabant, Eindhoven has had a long association with the Philips electronics company, which first began manufacturing light bulbs there in 1891. In the early 21st century, the city was home to a number of multinational technology companies.

The city had to be rebuilt after the war, with heavy industry still being a major employer in the ensuing decades.

In 1981, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The forest of Fontainebleau is a favourite weekend getaway destination for Parisians.
7. Which Italian city is home to the Uffizi Gallery?

Answer: Florence

Florence is the capital of Tuscany, and was the birthplace of the Renaissance in the 14th century. The entire historic centre of the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. Among the many tourist attractions there are the Uffizi Gallery, the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo) and the Ponte Vecchio.

Answer: Figueres

Figueres is a town in Catalonia, around 120 miles north east of Barcelona. Surrealist artist Salvador Dali was born there in 1904, and the Dalí Theatre and Museum was opened in 1974. During the Spanish Civil War, the town was a Republican stronghold and was repeatedly bombed by both Nazi and Italian aircraft.

Answer: Faro

The Algarve is Portugal's primary tourist destination, with beaches on the Atlantic coast. Faro is the largest city in the region, with its international airport greeting millions of tourists every year.

Answer: Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt am Main is Germany's financial capital. As well as the European Central Bank, the city is home to the country's largest stock exchange and the Deutsche Bundesbank.
