Rosenblatt, himself a solid minor league baseball player, persuaded the citizens of Omaha to build a stadium, which was completed in 1947. He originally sought a professional baseball team, though the city was glad to welcome the College World Series, beginning in 1950. Johnny was elected mayor of Omaha in 1954. The stadium was named for him in 1964.
