Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This energy drink has the same name as a vampire from the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Name it.

Answer: Spike

The drink's full name is Spike Shooter and it is a concentrated energy supplement made by Biotest. It contains 121 mg of caffeine per 100 ml and into this cocktail is added Yohimbe, which can affect blood pressure, the amino acid L-Tyrosine and the vitamin B12. The stimulants can be a danger to some and the can comes with a warning that the drink should not be consumed by those under 16 years of age.

Created by Joss Whedon, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003. The vampire Spike was played by James Marsters.
2. "Ammo" is a caffeine hit that comes in which of the following fruit classifications?

Answer: Citrus

Bevolution produces the high-caffeine drink called Ammo in three flavours, Citrus, Blue Raspberry and Fruit Punch. Fearing that, like its name, it could blow your head off, it comes with a warning not to drink the shot straight out of the bottle due to the fact that it contain 570 mg of caffeine per 100 ml. That is some impressive fire-power.
3. Ready for a bump, this energy drink has the same name as a technician Autobot ("Transformers") who changes into a blue Chevrolet Volt. Name it.

Answer: Jolt

Aimed at students and young professionals, Jolt Cola was created in 1985 by C. J. Rapp. The Jolt Endurance Shot is a cola that means business and comes in a 2 oz (59 ml) bottle, with each bottle contains a 150 mg of caffeine. This marks its caffeine holding as very high. Drinkers are urged to exercise moderation with this beverage.

Jolt, the autoboot, appears in the film "Revenge of the Fallen" (2009). He has a set of electro-whips, which he uses to great effect in this film to fuse Jetfire's parts onto Optimus Prime. As an added clue, "bump" is another word for "jolt".
4. Rodney Dangerfield once quipped: "I was so ugly my mother used to feed me with a sling ____." The name of which energy drink completes this quote?

Answer: Shot

Stok Black Coffee Shots is distributed in the same size package as milk/cream capsules. Only 13 ml in capacity but in that small amount there is 40 mg of caffeine. No need to nudge me, I'm awake! The total amount of caffeine in 100 ml equates to 308 mg. Little wonder they dish it out in small doses.

Born Jack Roy, Rodney Dangerfield was a stand-up comedian, known for his self-deprecating humour (as evidenced above) and witty one-liners.
5. This device converts the chemical energy of a fuel directly into electricity and it's also the name of which powerful energy drink from Bayshore Specialities?

Answer: Fuel Cell

Also coming in a small 2 oz bottle, this concentrated energy drink carries 180 mg of caffeine in each bottle. That's a whopping 308 mg per 100 ml. The company's blurb on the product boasts "Fuel Cell has 0 calories and is fortified with Vitamins B3, B5, B6, B12 and C, the Spring Water minerals Calcium and Magnesium, the Electrolyte Equivalent of Gatorade as well as Green Tea & Guarana Extracts as a source of antioxidants".

The first fuel cells were invented by Sir William Grove in 1838 but it took almost a hundred years before being used commercially.
6. The name of which movie, subway route and gauge safety limit also lends its name to a power drink?

Answer: Redline

The label on this drink suggests that you sip it slowly and not drink it all at once, and that's because of its potency. The drink was designed to assist bodybuilders to lose fat, however, with 250 mg of caffeine in an eight fluid ounce container, it's caffeine strength rating is extreme.

The movie "Redline" was produced in Japan in 2009 by Takeshi Koike, and is about a fictional futuristic galaxy race. In the UK, the Red line is the Central line that goes from Ealing Broadway to Epping. In engineering, the red line is a safety limit, marked on a gauge, in other words, the limit of tolerance.
7. The Light Brigade did it, and some activities are free of it. The name of which energy drink could share the bill with these?

Answer: Charge!

Charge! super shots are produced by Labrada, and boast no carbs or sugars. It claims to be both fast acting (I believe it) and long lasting. Charge! also reputes that it's a healthy energy drink with natural anti-oxidants. The amount of caffeine in a 59 ml bottle is the same as 339 mg of caffeine per 100 ml. Sounds like a sleepless night to me!

"The Charge of the Light Brigade" is an 1854 poem by Lord Tennyson that depicts the failed military action by the British light cavalry against Russian forces during the Battle of Balaclava.
8. By definition, this word means to shut forcefully or criticise severely but it is also the name of which energy drink by AdvoCare?

Answer: Slam

The AdvoCare Slam Energy Shot is high in caffeine and, by that, we mean it contains 120.00 mg per 2.00 fl. oz bottle. However, the makers are quick to highlight the fact that it contains 0.00 mg of sugar. One reviewer further disguises this by adding it is "a sugar free liquid vitamin and amino acid supplement that can give you that energy you are looking for" (Seal Team Squish).

Colloquially, prison is described as the slammer.
9. Pretty sure the Israelites didn't have this when they wandered the desert - but what power drink sounds like it might have been on the menu?

Answer: Mana

Mana energy potion comes in a vial that's not unlike a perfume bottle to look at, and packs a 400 mg of caffeine per 100 ml punch.

Manna, of course, was provided for the Israelites each night and arrived with the dew. It was ground up and made into cakes and was slightly sweet. The doum palm tree bears an edible orange fruit that tastes a bit like gingerbread.
10. This hit song, popularised by Eric Clapton, was written by J.J. Cale and is also the name of an energy drink banned between May 2007 and February 2008. Name it.

Answer: Cocaine

The drink was banned during that period because of its name and, as a result, is also known as the "No Name" drink. Symbolized by three and a half steer heads on its label, it boasts more caffeine than its celebrated rivals Red Bull and Rockstar. One can of the drink contains 248 mg of caffeine or, the equivalent of 113 mg of caffeine per 100 ml.

Eric Clapton's version of the song appeared on his 1977 album "Slowhand" and was part of a double-A single with "Lay Down Sally".
