Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who founded the fast food chain SONIC?

Answer: Troy N. Smith Sr

Smith started the company in 1953. SONIC had over 3,500 locations through out the nation by the time Mr. Smith passed away in 2009. Some credit a man named Charles Pappe for founding SONIC as well, but Smith's lone idea started the company. It wasn't until 1956 that they partnered up to build the first franchise in Oklahoma in 1958.
2. What was the original name of SONIC?

Answer: Top Hat

When Smith and Pappe learnt that the Top Hat name was trademarked, in 1959 they changed the name to Sonic. Since Top Hat's slogan was a much better match for the new name, it seemed to be a good fit.
3. What slogan did SONIC use from its very inception (even before it became SONIC)?

Answer: "Service at the Speed of Sound"

Top Hat's slogan was "Service at the Speed of Sound". Intercom systems, carhops, and fast service all contribute in making the slogan come to life.
4. Unlike most fast food chains, SONIC was a drive-in. On most occasions, the carhops wore what when delivering your order?

Answer: Rollerskates

Since the customer ordered by speaker, the use of rollerskates made it very convenient and fast to serve the customers who waited inside their vehicles.

Answer: Chili Cheese Coney, Chicken Club Toaster Sandwich, and Limeade

7. Do some SONIC locations have a outdoor playgrounds, batting cages, volleyball courts, and outdoor eating areas?
