Mary Marvell, the film actress, has an exquisite diamond, nicknamed "The Star of the West" and has been getting threatening letters, delivered by a Chinaman. It says that the diamond will be stolen the next full moon. Lady Yardley also has a diamond, nicknamed "The Star of the East". She has also been getting threatening letters.

Poirot and Hastings investigate the case when both the diamonds are stolen.

Poirot sends an urgent telegram to Hastings, advising Japp to arrest the housekeeper before it is too late, but the housekeeper vanishes before anything can be done. It is revealed that Mr Havering was the stranger and his wife was the housekeeper. Zoe Havering shot Mr Harrington Pace. Before justice can be done, Mr and Mrs Havering die in an aeroplane crash.

The London and Scottish Bank was sending a million dollar's worth of Liberty Bonds to New York, in the care of Mr Phillip Ridgeway. The bonds mysteriously disappear and Esmée Farquhar, Ridgeway's fiancée, asks Poirot and Hastings to investigate.

Answer: Blood poisoning

Sir John Willard and Mr Bleibner of New York discover the tomb of King Men-Her-Ra. When the tomb is open, the two men die in suspicious circumstances, as do other members of the expedition and people related to them. Poirot and Hastings go to Egypt to investigate.
