Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band member formed Iron Maiden?

Answer: Steve Harris

Steve Harris formed Iron Maiden in 1976, and the only band member who is currently in the band (other than Steve) from the early line-up is Dave Murray.
2. What was the name of the singer who replaced Bruce Dickinson from 1994-1999?

Answer: Blaze Bayley

Paul Di'Anno was replaced by Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith only sings backing vocals and Paul Dickinson is Bruce Dickinson's real name.
3. Which Iron Maiden song was written by Bruce Dickinson, and was originally his single?

Answer: Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter

It was originally Bruce's song for the movie, "Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child".
4. Adrian Smith released a non-Iron Maiden album.

Answer: True

He left the band at the end of 1988 and released a solo album in 1989.
5. What is Nicko McBrain's real first name?

Answer: Michael

Nicko McBrain's real first name is Michael. He got the name Nicko because, when young, he had a teddy bear named Nicky that carried with him everywhere.
6. Dave Murray has NEVER been fired from Iron Maiden.

Answer: False

It may not seem correct, my question, but according to both the "Run to the Hills" book and "The Early Days" DVD, Dave Murray was kicked out of Iron Maiden in late 1975 because the singer then (Dennis Wilcock) didn't like Dave's girlfriend. Dennis Wilcock finally quit in mid-1976, and Steve Harris got Dave back from another band, called Urchin.
7. Janick Gers was referred to Steve Harris to join Maiden by which other band member?

Answer: Bruce Dickinson

Janick Gers was a friend of Bruce Dickinson's as a teenager, and they met up again for Bruce's first solo album, "Tattooed Millionaire". Bruce referred him to Steve Harris after Adrian Smith left.
8. Which two band members of Iron Maiden were best pals at 15, and remained so through the band's heyday?

Answer: Dave Murray and Adrian Smith

Dave Murray and Adrian Smith met at fifteen, Dave was playing electric guitar and Adrian was still trying to master the acoustic. They joined a band together the next year.
9. Bruce Dickinson was the only member of Maiden NOT to drop out of high school.

Answer: True

Bruce went on to college and got a degree in history, whereas the rest of them had dropped out of high school at age 16 or 17 because they wanted a career in music and nothing else. Bruce only went to college to please his father, where he spent most of his time joining bands and getting laid, until it came time for the final exams.
10. Why was Doug Sampson replaced by Clive Burr for the recording of the band's debut album?

Answer: Because he was unable to tour because of personal reasons

Doug Sampson was actually the third drummer for Iron Maiden, but the first to be a member when the band signed a contract and he was a member in October 1974 when the band was known as Smiler.
