Jimmy James and the New Flames were discovered in 1966 by Chas Chandler, the bass player for the Animals. Hendrix went to London afterwards afterwards and created The Jimi Hendrix Experience, with Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. In 1969, he formed Band of Gypsies, with Buddy Miles on bass and Billy Cox on drums. Hendrix sang lead and played guitar in all these bands.

"Are You Experienced?" was released in 1967 and featured many classics, such as "Purple Haze", "Hey Joe", "The Wind Cries Mary", "Foxey Lady" and "Fire".
