Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song by Genesis contains these lyrics? "A world full of people their hearts full of joy, Cities of light with no fear of war, And thousands of creatures with happier lives, And dreams of a future with meaning and no need to hide."

Answer: Keep it Dark

This song appears on "Abacab" and was released as a single in 1982. According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number seven on the U.S. chart. "Abacab" was the third album by the lineup of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks. There are more pop-oriented songs on "Abacab" than its predecessor "Duke." However, even at their height of popularity, Genesis continued putting progressive tracks on their albums.
2. Which song by Jethro Tull contains these lyrics? "I'll buy you six bay mares, to put in your stable; Six golden apples bought with my pay. I am the first piper who calls the sweet tune But I must be gone by the seventh day."

Answer: The Whistler

This can be found on the album "Songs from the Wood." This song would be considered "folk rock."
3. Which song by Pink Floyd contains these lyrics? "And the sea isn't green And I love the queen And what exactly is a dream? And what exactly is a joke?"

Answer: Jugband Blues

This is a great Syd Barrett song! It appears on Pink Floyd's second album "A Saucerful of Secrets." It starts off with the lyric
"It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm almost obliged to you for making it clear that I'm not here"

And of course one of my favorite lines:
"And I'm wondering who could be writing this song"

It isn't too surprising after listening to this song that this would be the last Pink Floyd album that Syd appears on.
4. Which song by Yes contains the following lyrics? "Contained in everything I do There's a love, I feel for you Proclaimed in everything I write You're the light Burning, brightly"

Answer: Onward

This beautiful song appears on "Tormato." This album also contains the song "Don't Kill the Whale." According to the booklet with the 2004 Rhino "expanded and remastered" cd release, the album went to number 10 in the U.S. The Rhino version has more bonus tracks than the album itself, many of which were previously unreleased.

In fact, the last bonus track (track 18) is an orchestral version of "Onward" that isn't even listed on the cd!
5. Which song by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer contains the following lyrics? "Ain't nobody gonna walk on water When it falls like acid rain Nobody gonna fake you out Every poison stains We're all stuck here right in the middle We never call the tune If we don't get active we'll become immune"

Answer: Black Moon

This song appears on "Black Moon." This album was released in 1992 and is the first ELP studio album since "Love Beach" from 1978.
6. Which song by King Crimson contains the following lyric? "Uncle Rufus grew his nose, threw away his circus clothes Cousin Silas grew a beard, drew another flask of weird Nasty Jonah grew a wife, Judas drew his pruning knife. Happy family, one hand clap, four went on but none came back."

Answer: Happy Family

This song appears on their third album "Lizard." On this album you'll here Jon Anderson of Yes singing the first part of the title track. This is the first King Crimson album without Greg Lake - Gordon Haskell does the majority of the vocals. I like the album a lot, in fact I feel it's better than their previous album "In the Wake of Poseidon."
7. Which song by Yes contains the following lyric? "She knows just what to say to make a sunny day And when I'm all alone I really don't feel that way."

Answer: Sweetness

This is a track from their first album "Yes." This album has Peter Banks on guitar - Steve Howe does not appear on this album. Rick Wakeman is also not on this album - Tony Kaye plays organ and piano. This is a good album, even though it's not "truly progressive." They do an interesting cover of "Every Little Thing" by The Beatles, which has a long intro.
8. Which song by Genesis contains the following lyrics? "And you'd be the one who was laughing Except when things weren't going your way And the lady would say that she'd had enough Wandering around on her own."

Answer: More Fool Me

This is the first song by Genesis that has vocals by Phil Collins. It appears on the Peter Gabriel era album "Selling England by the Pound."
9. Which song by King Crimson contains the following lyric? "And when I have some words This is the way I'll sing Through a distortion box To make them menacing Yeah, then I'm gonna have to write a chorus We're gonna need to have a chorus And this would seem to be as good as any other place to sing it till I'm blue in the face"

Answer: Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With

This song was first released on the EP "Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With." It is listed on that EP as "a Tone Probe edit from the forthcoming album EleKtriK." The song surfaced again in 2003 on the album "The Power to Believe," which is in my opinion their best album since "Thrak."
10. Which song by Pink Floyd contains these lyrics? "floating down through the clouds memories come rushing up to meet me now in the space between the heavens and in the corner of some foreign field i had a dream i had a dream"

Answer: the gunners dream

This great deep cut is from "The Final Cut," which is the last studio album by Pink Floyd that contained Roger Waters. The "i" in the above lyrics isn't capitalized, it's as it appears in the lyrics that come with the cd. None of the titles of the tracks on the album are capitalized. Also, note that there isn't an apostrophe in the title of the song. This album is closer to a solo Roger Waters album than a Pink Floyd album. There are some really good tracks on this album and is worth the listen. I feel it fits thematically with "The Wall."

I hope you enjoyed my quiz! Thank you for playing!
