Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Right Now"

Answer: Atomic Kitten

The second of Atomic Kitten's songs in this movie, "Right Now" is the debut single from the English girl band, and the title track of their debut studio album which was released in 2000.

"Right Now" plays during the roller skating party that Van has organised for Panos Patakos and the Lambda Omega Omega fraternity as we see Van introduce Taj to Naomi, and we see the two skating together before Taj loses control and crashes into and over the safety barrier.
2. "Super Trooper"

Answer: Superchick

Sometimes written as Superchic[k], Superchick was a Christian alternative pop/rock band that was formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1999. "Super Trooper" is taken from their independently released first album "Karaoke Superstars".

"Super Trooper" plays as Gwen enters the Delta Iota Kappa fraternity house, in which a less than exciting fancy dress party is taking place, and tells Richard that she can't stay for the party as she has to work tonight.
3. "Heartbeat"

Answer: Tahiti 80

French indie pop band Tahiti 80 were founded in Rouen in 1992 by Xavier Boyer, Pedro Resende, Médéric Gontier and Sylvain Marchand. "Heartbeat" is taken from their 1999 debut album "Puzzle".

"Heartbeat" plays as we see Gwen enter the rollerskating party and tell Van that for some reason her editor thinks that he is a story. Taj informs Van that there is a problem out front, and whilst Van is gone, Gwen overhears Panos Patakos and one of his fellow Lambda Omega Omega fraternity brothers talking about how they paid Van to put the party together. Armed with this information, Gwen feels that she has her story without having to even talk to Van, so leaves, much to Van's confusion.
4. "Radio Song"

Answer: Swirl 360

The Jacksonville-based melodic pop rock band Swirl 360 was founded by twins Denny and Kenny Scott. Swirl 360 have two songs featured in this movie - "Radio Song" and "Okay".

"Radio Song" plays as we see Van walking through the corridor in a robe, talking to Gwen about how he didn't just throw the party for the Lambda Omega Omega fraternity because they paid him. Gwen tells Van that she has a chance to make the front page of the graduation issue, and ask him if she can "get the other side [of the story]". Van advises Gwen that there's a function he is hosting tomorrow night, and she can "tag along" if she wants. Van then heads into a room, takes off his robe and poses for a life drawing class.
5. "Bleed American"

Answer: Jimmy Eat World

The second of Jimmy Eat World's songs in this movie, "Bleed American" is the title track from the US rock band's fourth studio album, which also features the earworm "The Middle".

"Bleed American" plays when Van takes Gwen to the college ice rink and makes a deal with her - if Gwen scores a goal against Van, Van co-operates and answers all of her questions, but if she misses, she has to go on a dinner date with him. We see Gwen very proficiently skate towards Van before stroking the puck beautifully past him into the top of the net. Gwen then removes her helmet and says, "My brothers play hockey... for the Rangers."
6. "Little Man"

Answer: Sia

Born Sia Kate Isobelle Furler on 18th December 1975 in Adelaide, South Australia, Sia is a singer-songwriter who has been active since 1990. "Little Man" is the second single taken from Sia's second studio album "Healing Is Difficult", which was released in 2001 in the UK, and 2002 in the US.

"Little Man" plays as Van and Gwen enjoy a drink in the spectator area of the college ice rink after Gwen has won their bet. They are clearly enjoying getting to know each other a bit better, as noted by Gordon, who skates onto the ice for hockey practice.
7. "Jack, She's on the Ball"

Answer: Sugar Ray

Not to be confused with the American rock band Sugar Ray, the American soul blues singer Sugar Ray Norcia was born Raymond Alan Norcia in Stonington, Connecticut on 6th June 1954. "Jack, She's on the Ball" is the first track on Sugar Ray's 1998 album "Sweet & Swingin'".

"Jack, She's on the Ball" plays as Van is politely conversing with Gwen' parents and their friends, despite feeling rather out of place as he has been tricked into coming to Gwen's parents' house by Richard, who is trying to make Van look bad.
8. "Girl on the Roof"

Answer: David Mead

Singer-songwriter David Mead was born in New York in 1973 before his family relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. "Girl on the Roof" is taken from his second album "Mine and Yours" which was released in 2001.

"Girl on the Roof" plays as Van an Taj are driving in Van's golf cart. Gwen steps out into the road and signals for Van to stop. Taj gets out of the golf cart and Gwen takes his place, chatting with Van for a minute before they drive off together.
9. "Stumblin' In"

Answer: Suzi Quatro & Chris Norman

American singer-songwriter Suzi Quatro was born on 3rd June 1950 in Detroit, and English soft rock singer Chris Norman was born on 25th October 1950 in North Yorkshire. The pair teamed up to release the Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn written song "Stumblin' In" in 1978 in the UK and in 1979 in the US.

"Stumblin' In" plays as we see Taj preparing to be the perfect host to Naomi, following Van's advice to provide scented candles, massage oil, and Barry White.
10. "Show Me"

Answer: Mint Royale

Mint Royale was used as the alias of English duo Neil Claxton and Chris Baker between 1997 and 2004, and from then by Neil Claxton alone after Chris Baker left the band. The electronic outfit originally released "Show Me" as a non-album single in 2001, but it was subsequently included on their "Dancehall Places" album the following year.

"Show Me" plays as Gwen gets access to Van's transcripts by using the same trick that Van used earlier in the movie to get Gwen out of class. Having been refused access to Van's "confidential" transcripts by the archive guy, Gwen sets off the sprinkler system so that the archive guy evacuates the building, allowing Gwen, who is wearing the same yellow rain jacket Van gave her before he pulled the stunt, free access to the archives! The song plays again later in the movie as Van and the Law Club work on their strategy to appeal against Van's expulsion.
