Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is the very first verse of the Bible! According to Genesis 1:1, in the beginning, who created the heavens and the earth (NIV version)?

Answer: God

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1)

According to the Bible, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void until God said, "Let there be light!". Then there was light! God was responsible for creating everything in the universe, including mankind.
2. In Exodus, God led the Israelites from slavery to freedom. Which Bible leader sang with the Israelites in Exodus 15:2, "The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt Him." (NIV)?

Answer: Moses

Moses and his sister Miriam wrote a song that is recorded in Exodus 15, because God drowned Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea after the Israelites escaped to safety. Songs were later used to remind the Israelites of their history and what God had done for them.
3. Be strong and courageous! According to Joshua 1:9 (NIV), do not be discouraged because who will be with you wherever you go?

Answer: The Lord, your God

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)

God gave these words to Israel's new leader, Joshua, after Moses had died. Joshua took these words to heart and lead Israel in many battles. God rewarded Joshua and the Israelites by giving them victory and the promise land.
4. "A friend loves at all times", and according to the NIV version of Proverbs 17:17, who is born for times of adversity?

Answer: a brother

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity." Proverbs 17:17

A true friend will be there in the good or bad times. A brother is there to lend a helping hand and give strength during times of pressure.
5. Food gained by fraud tastes sweet at first but according to Proverbs 20:17, what does it become to one's mouth (NIV version)?

Answer: gravel

"Food gained by fraud tastes sweet, but one ends up with a mouth full of gravel." Proverbs 20:17

Deceit always comes with a price. It may not be immediate but things that are not gained honestly have a tendency not to last long.
6. Which Biblical book (NIV), stated, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens"?

Answer: Ecclesiastes

Ecclesiastes 3:1 stated, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." The writer of Ecclesiastes also stated in verse 3:14, "I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him."
7. According to Isaiah 40:28 (NIV), who will not grow tired or weary and has understanding no one can fathom?

Answer: The Creator of the ends of the earth

Isaiah wrote in Isaiah 40:28, "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom."

Although many of Isaiah's prophecies issued warnings of destruction and judgment, he also reminded the Israelites of the glory of God. He reminded them that God would give strength to those that sought after Him and trusted Him.
8. Temptation is common to man. According to the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:13, what will God provide so one can endure temptation? (NIV version)

Answer: a way out

The Corinthian church had many problems with sin and temptation. Paul wrote to encourage them to be faithful to God, who would provide a way out of temptation when they were weak. Paul wrote, "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it". (1 Corinthians 10:13)
9. According to the NIV Bible, in Hebrews 11:1, what spiritual characteristic is "confidence in what we hope for and the assurance about what we do not see"?

Answer: faith

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV version), also states "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.".

God highlighted many people in the Bible because they had faith and rewarded them for it. Many of these people are also mentioned in the book of Hebrews.
10. These words came from a verse in the only letter written by this apostle. According to the NIV Bible, which author wrote saying, "To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy- to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen"?

Answer: Jude

This scripture is taken from Jude 1:24-25. Jude is one epistle of the Bible that only has one chapter. Jude speaks to the saints in previous verses urging them to be cautious of evil, but leaves the reader with a promise and praise to God.
