Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What beer company sponsored Dale Earnhardt Jr's #8 DEI Chevrolet?

Answer: Budweiser

If you've even heard of NASCAR, it should be automatic that you associate Dale Jr. with Budweiser. Bud had been on the hood of the #8 DEI Chevy since Jr. started in what was then the Winston Cup Series in 2000.
2. The military branch of the U.S. Army sponsored what number car, driven by Mark Martin?

Answer: 01

After Mark Martin left Roush Racing and the #6 Ford at the end of the 2006 season, he decided to go to the newly formed team at Ginn Racing. Ginn Racing, formerly MB2 Motorsports in 2006, offered Martin a ride for a partial schedule in 2007 in the #01 U.S. Army Chevrolet.
3. Kevin Harvick's primary sponsor in 2007 was GM Goodwrench.

Answer: False

Before the 2007 season, GM Goodwrench had been a long time primary sponsor for Richard Childress Racing. Sponsoring Dale Earnhardt Sr. in his prime, the sponsorship was handed down to Kevin Harvick when he was pulled up from the Busch Series after Dale Sr.'s death in February 2001.

After a long run as a primary sponsor for RCR, GM Goodwrench finally reduced its sponsorship to secondary on the #29 car in 2007. As a result, the gas company Shell stepped in and took over the hood of Harvick's Chevy.
4. Subway was one of Greg Biffle's many sponsors in the 2006 season. In the 2007, the company moved sponsorship elsewhere as a secondary sponsor. What driver gained Subway as a secondary sponsor in 2007?

Answer: Tony Stewart

While sponsored by Subway, Greg Biffle did a number of commericials for them, some of which were actually funny. In 2007, Subway aired a new commercial with their main advertising spokesperson, Jared, along with their new driver, Tony Stewart.
5. Toyota's major decision to race the Camry in the Cup Series in 2007 created new teams. One of these new Toyota teams were formed by an energy drink company with Brian Vickers and A.J. Allmendinger as the main drivers. The company also sponsored both race cars. What is the name of this company?

Answer: Red Bull

In 2007, the Toyota Camry joined the Nextel Cup Series. Three teams were formed for the first foreign maufacturer in NASCAR. Among these teams were Michael Waltrip Racing, Bill Davis Racing, and Red Bull Racing. Red Bull Racing consisted of Brian Vickers, driver of the #83 Red Bull Toyota, and rookie A.J. Allmendinger, driver of the #84 Red Bull Toyota.
6. In 2007, Texaco Havoline sponsored the #42 Chip Ganassi Dodge, driven by which driver?

Answer: Juan Montoya

Making the move from open wheel racing to stock car racing is quite the culture shock. Juan Pablo Montoya made the move from the Indy Racing League to the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Originally from Columbia, Montoya drove the #42 Texaco Havoline Dodge for car owner Chip Ganassi.
7. In the 2007 Nextel Cup Series, there were two major home improvement warehouse sponsors. What were they?

Answer: Home Depot & Lowe's

Two of Nextel Cup's biggest names are sponsored by Home Improvement warehouses. The 2002 Nextel Cup Champion, Tony Stewart, was sponsored by Home Depot. The 2006 Nextel Cup Champion, Jimmie Johnson, was sponsored by Lowe's.
8. Did Robby Gordon ever have Motorola as a primary sponsor in 2007?

Answer: Yes

There was a huge controversy involving Motorola being on the hood of Robby Gordon's self-owned #7 Ford. Because of their contract with Nextel, NASCAR would not allow Robby Gordon to put Motorola on the hood of his car as a primary sponsor. Instead, he was only allowed to put a small decal by the window net.

After much debate, NASCAR and Gordon finally reached a compromise. Since Robby Gordon was advertising Motorola as a cell phone company, NASCAR felt that it was in violation of their contract.

However, cell phones aren't the only product that Motorola sells. They also sell media players. Therefore, Gordon was allowed to advertise Motorola media players.
9. What office supply company sponsored Carl Edwards?

Answer: Office Depot

NASCAR's model driver, Carl Edwards was sponsored by office supplier Office Depot, along with his other primary sponsor, Scott's. The #99 Roush Fenway Ford changed back and forth from the color red (Office Depot) and the color green (Scott's) throughout the 2007 season.
10. Which of these drivers had the longest running sponsorship the Nextel Cup Series?

Answer: DuPont & Jeff Gordon

When Jeff Gordon first burst on the scene in 1992, he drove the #24 DuPont Chevrolet for Rick Hendrick Motorsports. 2007 made the 16th year that this driver/sponsor combination had been together.
