Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was AC Milan's captain in the 2003-04 season?

Answer: Paolo Maldini

Paolo Maldini became an AC Milan defender in the 1984-85 season. He was said to have declared that he would never transfer to any other club.
2. Who was AC Milan's MOST surprising signing for the 2001-02 season?

Answer: Filippo Inzaghi

Filippo Inzaghi was the most surprising because he was from Juventus, and at the end of the 200-01 season there was no sign of AC Milan targetting him for his signature. Javi Moreno came from Spanish club Alaves, where he played in the UEFA Cup Final vs Liverpool, which they lost 4-5 in extra time.

He was signed to fire AC Milan's attack, but he failed and was later sold to Atletico Madrid. Manuel Rui Costa was Fiorentina's captain, where he won a trophy, the Coppa Italia, together with Francesco Toldo, Enrico Chiesa and Roberto Mancini (as a coach).

But because of the club's dire financial situation, he and Toldo were sold, which gave Fiorentina enough to discharge their debts. Martin Laursen was bought from Parma.
3. Was Gaetano Scirea, AC Milan's greatest defender of the 1990s?

Answer: No

Gaetano Scirea was a defender for Atlanta and Juventus's defender, but he never played for AC Milan. He was a great defender though.
4. Which of the following was NOT signed by AC Milan for the 2003-04 season?

Answer: Fabio Cannavaro

Marcos Cafu was signed from AS Roma to help the defense since Alessandro Costacurta NEARLY ended his carreer (he was 38). Giuseppe Pancaro was signed from Lazio that was VERY interested in Demetrio Albertini that had just came back from being loaned to Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The teams then transferred Pancaro for Albertini. Kaka was a brilliant, talented youngster from Brazil. His full name is Ricardo Izecson Santos Leite. He was one of the star of Brazil's winning American Youth Cup.
5. Which of these AC Milan defenders played for the club for 20 years, from 1977 to 1997 and has made 444 appearances in Serie-A?

Answer: Franco Baresi

Franco Baresi was Italy's national team captain and had been nicknamed The Steel Man because, even as a veteran, he was still hard to beat. However, his appearances were beaten by Paolo Maldini (515 recorded at the end of the season 2002-03) and Gianni Rivera (510).
6. Who was AC Milan's defender that signed for 2002-03 season from Lazio?

Answer: Alessandro Nesta

Alessandro Nesta is the one. Although Stam wanted to be signed, it didn't happen and Pancaro was signed for the next season. AC Milan had once said that they impressed with and wanted to sign Fernando Couto, but didn't make the next move with him.
7. Which season was goalkeeper Valerio Fiori's first season at AC Milan?

Answer: 1999-00

Valerio Fiori was signed for AC Milan for the 1999-00 season and didn't make his Serie-A debut with AC Milan until the last match of the 2002-03, in which saw AC Milan fell to Piacenza (2-4).
8. When was Paolo Maldini born?

Answer: June 26, 1968

Paolo Maldini was born in Milan, on 26th June 1968.
9. How many goals did Gunnar Nordahl, AC Milan's greatest forward, score?

Answer: 210

Nordahl started out his career at the Swedish team Degesfors. He also helped the Swedish National Team won the 1948 Olympic Tournament, being the top goalscorer. He would then play for AC Milan and formed the all-powerful Swedish Trio Gre-No-Li (with Gunnar Gren and Nils Liedholm).
10. AC Milan won their first European Champions Cup under the leadership of coach _____ ?

Answer: Nereo Rocco

Nereo Rocco was the succesful Milan coach. Cesare Maldini, a defender, was AC Milan's captain at that time, who became AC Milan coach later. Giovanni Trapattoni was also an AC Milan player at that time, and also became coach later. Mario Zagallo was a Brazilian national success coach, but he never coached AC Milan. Nereo Rocco brought AC Milan joy by winning the European Champions Cup in 1963 at Wembley (now the UEFA Champions League).

Many Milan stars were there, including Italian Rivera & Uruguayan Altafini (he is the only AC Milan to score in that Final). AC Milan beat Benfica 2-1.
