1. Which of the following set a modern day Major League record for being hit by a pitch 50 times in a season?

Answer: Ron Hunt

Hunt was hit 50 times as an Expo in 1971. He walked a total of 58 times in the season. He retired in 1974 with 243 career bruises.
2. Which team was the first to appear in three consecutive World Series?

Answer: Chicago Cubs

The Cubs did this before the Yankees took on their name in 1913. The Cubs, behind player-manager Frank Chance, lost in 1906 to the White Sox, but rebounded by defeating the Tigers in 1907 and 1908.
3. Who was the first player in history to hit 40 home runs in a season in both leagues?

Answer: Darrell Evans

The others listed were all one-team players. Evans hit 41 for the 1973 Braves, then another 40 for the Tigers in 1985. Darrell retired in 1989 after 21 seasons with 414 home runs.
4. Which National League slugger led the league eight times for hitting the most home runs in a season?

Answer: Mike Schmidt

Both Ruth and Williams' heyday was in the American League. Bonds only led the NL twice. Mike Schmidt, the 10-time Gold Glove Phillie third baseman, led the NL eight times, topping out at 48 in 1980, helping to stop a World Series dry spell and defeat the Royals of Kansas City.
5. 1951 saw the St. Louis Brown fiasco with pinch-hitter Eddie Gaedel. Who did the 3'7" midget pinch-hit for?

Answer: Frank Saucier

Saucier's only season was in 1951, and he appeared in only 18 games. He was the listed leadoff batter for the Browns. The game was August 19th against pitcher Bob Cain and the Tigers, and it occurred in the bottom of the first inning. This was Gaedel's only at-bat of his career. He died 10 years later after being mugged in Chicago.
6. Who was the first black player to lead the American League in home runs?

Answer: Larry Doby

The others were all National Leaguers. Doby, the first black American League player in 1947 with the Indians, hit 32 home runs in 1952 to lead the league. He would lead the league again in 1954.
7. Which team ruled the 1920s by appearing in six World Series?

Answer: New York Yankees

The others listed never appeared in the series in the 1920s. The Yankee franchise saw their first World Series in 1921 but lost. 1922 brought the same results against the crosstown rival Giants. But in 1923, not only did they have revenge against the Giants, but also their first World Series crown.

They lost in 1926, then won two more in 1927 and 1928. There would be many more appearances for the club yet to come.
8. Which team was the first in history to have two of its members inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame?

Answer: New York Giants

The hall began in 1936, and saw New York Giant pitcher Christy Mathewson as one of the first five to be inducted. John McGraw, who managed the Giants for 33 seasons was inducted in 1937. Connie Mack of the Athletics was inducted in 1937 after Detroit Tiger Ty Cobb in 1936, who played only two seasons in Philadelphia. Cobb was inducted as a Tiger.
9. Don Larsen was the first player in history to throw a World Series perfect game. Which Yankee pitcher took a perfect game into the eighth inning of World Series game, then lost the perfecto?

Answer: Herb Pennock

The 1927 series saw the Yankees against the Pirates. In game three, Pennock, who went 19-8 in the season, gave up the perfecto when Pie Traynor had a hit with one out in the eighth inning. The Yankees went on to win the game 8-1 on a three-hitter by Pennock. The Yankees also won the series.
10. The following are all Hall of Fame inductees. Who was not inducted in the 1960s?

Answer: Carl Hubbell

Hubbell was a career pitcher for the New York Giants. After winning two MVPs and 253 games, he retired in 1943 and was inducted in 1947. The others were all inducted in 1964.
