1. In which year did the Yankees win their first World Series?

Answer: 1923

The Yankees went to their first World Series in 1921, but lost to the New York Giants. 1922 saw the same result. It was 1923 against the same Giants but the Yankees finally took their first Major League crown.
2. Which of the following pitchers gave up the most home runs in their career?

Answer: Robin Roberts

Roberts played for 19 seasons from 1948-1966, mostly with the Phillies. He was the first pitcher in history to give up 500 home runs. He retired with giving up 505. Robin also set a season record for giving up 46 in 1956. Blyleven later came along and broke this record by giving up 50 in 1986 with the Twins.

Leever led the Pirates and went 25-7 in the season. His two short-term appearances in the World Series hurt the Pirates, and caused pitcher Deacon Phillippe to pull triple duty. Phillippe pitched five complete games in the series. Doheny went 16-8 in the season, and made an appearance in his own promised land instead of baseball.
4. Who was the first catcher in Major League history to win the MVP Award?

Answer: Mickey Cochrane

Cochrane won two MVP awards. His first was with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1928, then his second as a Detroit Tiger in 1934. Mickey retired after 13 seasons in 1937, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1947.
5. When Lou Gehrig finally stepped down from his consecutive game playing streak, who replaced him?

Answer: Babe Dahlgren

In the infancy of the 1939 season, Gehrig benched himself after 2130 consecutive games. It all began on June 2, 1925. Dahlgren was a rookie with the Red Sox in 1935 and played the full season. He joined the Yankees in 1937, but as a back-up to Gehrig, played in only one game. He played in the remaining 144 games in the 1939 season after replacing Gehrig.
6. Milwaukee Brave Joe Adcock set a long-standing record of having 18 total bases in one game in 1954. Who later broke that record with 19 of his own almost 50 years later?

Answer: Shawn Green

Green was a Los Angeles Dodger in 2002. On May 23rd, he hit four home runs in the game against the Milwaukee Brewers, and also had a double and a single.
7. Who set a National League record for being caught stealing 36 times in a season?

Answer: Miller Huggins

Henderson set an American League record in 1982 for being caught 42 times. He stole 130 in the season which set a record. Huggins, more known as a manager for the Yankees, was playing for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1914. He attempted to steal a base 68 times, and was only successful in 32.
8. Which of the following players did not have a nickname associated with a color?

Answer: Carlton Fisk

Carlton Fisk was a 24-season catcher for the Red Sox and White Sox. His nickname was "Pudge". John "Blue Moon" Odom was a pitcher who played for the Athletics franchise in 12 of his 13 seasons in the '60s and '70s. Rusty Staub was known as "Le Grand Orange" because of his red hair. Hall of Famer Mickey Cochrane was known as "Black Mike".
9. Who was the first pitcher in history to win two consecutive season MVP awards?

Answer: Hal Newhouser

Newhouser played 15 of his 17 seasons with the Tigers from 1939-1955. He won his two awards in 1944 and 1945, having two tremendous seasons. In those seasons combined, Hal went 54-18. Newhouser was a 1992 hall inductee. Walter Johnson of the Senators was the first pitcher in history to win two MVPs, but not consecutive.
10. Who was the first African-American pitcher to win a World Series game?

Answer: Joe Black

Black won the Rookie of the Year Award for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1952. He pitched a game-one win in the World Series against the Yankees. Joe would go on to lose game four and game seven, watching the Yankees take a four games to three series crown.
