Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the museum of curiosities, Scully walked into the backroom to see the P.T. Barnum exhibit. The room was empty, save a large chest in the middle. What was in the chest?

Answer: nothing

When Scully opened the chest, the back door to the room opened as an exit from the museum, but there was nothing in the box itself. Apparently, Barnum really had such a set up. He had a sign pointing to what he called "The Egress". Visitors assumed it would be another interesting exhibit and went through the door, but were just led to an exit.

They then had to pay another admittance fee to re-enter the museum. Perhaps if the visitors had been more thoughtful, they wouldn't have had to waste their money; "egress" is a path for going out! (Thanks to tvtome.com for that info.)
2. What was Mr. Nutt doing in the crawlspace under Scully's trailer?

Answer: repairing the plumbing

Mulder caught him under the trailer and asked what he was doing there, causing Nutt to get quite defensive.
3. Nutt told Mulder, "You'd be surprised how many women find my size ____ ____."

Answer: intriguingly alluring

Nutt had devalued Mulder's lanky height and told him that women actually liked his smaller stature. Mulder looked at him and replied, "You'd be surprised how many men do, as well." Nutt was clearly a bit perturbed by the homosexual undertone of the comment and stalked off into the night.
4. Jim Jim the Dog-Faced Boy had been found in the wild forests of what country?

Answer: Albania

He'd been found in 1943, unable to speak but quite adept at catching his own food. He was brought to the United States and put on display, where he would frighten his audience by voraciously eating raw chunks of meat. After some time, he moved to Gibsonton, changed his name, and entered the field of law enforcement, effectively becoming Sheriff Hamilton.
5. Standing in Hamilton's backyard, Mulder told Scully that hypertrichosis did not connote what?

Answer: lycanthropy

He pointed out that Hamilton's excessive hairiness did not give them a right to assume aberrant behavior. Scully agreed that it was like "assuming guilt based solely on skin color". The agents paused for just a moment to think about that before squatting down to dig up the freshly covered hole.
6. What had Hamilton buried in his yard?

Answer: potato

Hamilton shone his flashlight on Scully and Mulder and asked what they were doing. Mulder replied, "We're exhuming your... potato." Scully tried to justify why they'd be investigating law enforcement, giving some history of serial killer profiles, but Mulder interrupted her to simply say that they'd found out Hamilton used to be the dog-faced boy.
7. How did Hamilton explain what he'd buried?

Answer: he had some warts on his hand

Mulder said that that wasn't really an explanation, so Hamilton elaborated, saying that if you have warts on your hand you rub a sliced potato on it and then bury the potato under a full moon. Hamilton then concluded that Scully and Mulder's investigation wasn't going too well.
8. How did the monster enter Mr. Nutt's trailer to kill him?

Answer: dog door

The monster had come through the window to kill Hepcat Helm, but came through the dog door in Nutt's trailer. He fought it off his leg initially, but then saw it poke its head through the window before it entered and killed him.
9. When Scully, Mulder, and Hamilton came to arrest Dr. Blockhead, he was attaching wires and hooks to his chest. He said it was a variation on what?

Answer: American Indian Sundance Ritual

Apparently, he induced such unbearable pain that his spirit left his body. Then he told the agents that "If people knew the true price of spirituality, there'd be more atheists."
10. Struggling with Dr. Blockhead, Mulder fell on a bed of nails. What did he compare its comfortableness to?

Answer: a futon

Scully looked at him with concern and asked if he was alright. Mulder looked up at her, saying "It's more comfortable than a futon."
11. Lanny extracted his twin.

Answer: False

When they found him in the drunk tank and looked at his wound, that was what Mulder and Sheriff Hamilton originally thought, but Scully corrected them: "No; the twin extracted itself."
12. Why was Leonard attacking people?

Answer: looking for a new brother

Lanny told them that Leonard had been attacking people because he was looking for a new brother. It clearly saddened Lanny somewhat, as he thought he'd been a pretty good brother and taken care of both of them all their lives.
13. Where did Scully and Mulder chase Leonard to?

Answer: Hepcat Helm's funhouse

They were trapped in rooms of mirrors and labyrinthine halls searching for Leonard. They eventually agreed to just go outside and try to catch Leonard coming out.
14. Who did Leonard end up with?

Answer: The Conundrum

He didn't feel good and told Scully and Mulder that it was probably something he ate.
15. What did Dr. Blockhead tell Scully the future looked like?

Answer: Mulder

Complaining that genetic engineering would eradicate all imperfections in the human race, Blockhead said he'd seen the future, and it looked like Mulder. Then we got a magnificent shot of Mulder, posed like a Greek hero on the steps of a trailer and looking into the distance as Blockhead said, "Imagine: going through your whole life lookin' like that!"
