Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The science fiction show "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" enabled its intrepid crew to travel about the oceans by which means?

Answer: A nuclear powered submarine

"Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" was one of television's early forays into the world of science fiction. It ran from 1964 until 1968 and was based on a film of the same name. Starring Richard Baseheart and David Hedison, the stout-hearted crew of the nuclear submarine called "Seaview" defended the earth against threats from criminals of this world and villainous beings from other planets.
2. Considering the episodes of the series "The Rifleman" from start to finish, did the hero of this western show fire his specially adapted rifle in every one (do not factor in the opening credits)?

Answer: No

He did this in the opening credits of every episode in fact - and in most, but not all of the episodes. "The Rifleman" ran from 1958 to 1963 and starred Chuck Connors as Lucas McCain, the homesteader of a small town. He was a justice dispensing widower with a young son, and because of his skill and reputation with a gun, was often the prey of gunfighters wishing to best him.

The show also starred Johnny Crawford as his son Mark, and Paul Fix as the Marshal Micah Torrance.
3. Who was the "normal" member of the Munster family?

Answer: Marilyn

"The Munsters", a comedy series featuring a family straight from the pages of horror stories, ran from 1964 until 1966. It starred Fred Gwynne as Herman, the lovable and mild-mannered Frankenstein monster father who worked at a funeral parlour. Yvonne de Carlo played his vampire wife Lily who considered her family to be normal middle class Americans, and who usually made most of the family decisions. Eddie, played by Butch Patrick, was their young werewolf son. Lily's father, Count Dracula, a would-be scientist, was played by Al Lewis, and Marilyn Munster, their normal niece who attended college, was played initially by Beverley Owen, but for most of the episodes by Pat Priest.
4. Who was the star of the television series "The Flying Nun"?

Answer: Sally Field

Sally Field starred as Sister Bertrille in this series which ran from 1967 to 1970. The story line revolved around a young nun, so petite that any strong winds lifted her up into the air, where, by means of adjusting her habit's hearwear, she could direct the course of her flight. Set in a convent in Puerto Rico, comic relief was also provided by playboy Carlos Ramirez (played by Alejandro Rey) who grew up in the convent as an orphan raised by the nuns.

He was constantly drawn into Sister Bertrille's escapades. During part of this series, Sally Field was pregnant.

This proved to be a real challenge for the directors of the series, considering her character had taken the vow of chastity.
5. In "The Andy Griffith Show", which ran from 1960 to 1968, what was the name of the family's aunt?

Answer: Aunt Bee

This show featured a widower bringing up his young son, but with the help of a capable aunt. Andy Griffith played the role of a sheriff of a small community in the series. His son, Opie, was played by a young Ron Howard, and Francis Bavier played the capable and motherly Aunt Bee. Comic relief was taken care of by the bumbling deputy Barney Fife (played by the hilarious Don Knotts) and a host of eccentric local characters.
6. What were the names of the two sons in the long running series "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet"?

Answer: David and Ricky

This was a family comedy that ran from 1952 to 1966. One of the longest running television shows to grace the screen, it starred all four member of the Nelson family in real life. Such was its emphasis on reality, this show even used shots of the front of the Nelsons' home in the various episodes, and the sets were designed to reflect the real rooms of the family home. Ozzie and Harriet Nelson played Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, and their sons David and Ricky also retained their own names in the show.

As the boys grew older on the television show, they married, and their real wives were brought into the series as well.
7. In which state did Darren and Samantha Stevens of "Bewitched" fame live?

Answer: Connecticut

The Stephens family lived at 1164 Morning Glory Circle in Westport, Connecticut to be exact. Darrin (played by Dick York and later by Dick Sargent) worked as an advertising executive at McMann and Tate. He was a mortal, married to the beautiful witch Samantha (played by Elizabeth Montgomery). Unfortunately Samantha came with a very troublesome mother, Endora (Agnes Moorehead), who constantly wreaked havoc in Darrin's life - along with a host of her other challenging relatives. "Bewitched" was a lovely, happy family comedy which ran from 1964 to 1972.

It was still being shown on television screens as re-runs many years after the series had ceased production.
8. Who was the star of the television series "Ben Casey"?

Answer: Vince Edwards

The series "Ben Casey", which ran from 1961 to 1966, was set in the County General Hospital. Vince Edwards played the young, idealistic doctor bent on saving the life of every terribly ill patient he encountered, no matter what their condition indicated.

The show spawned both a comic book and a comic strip, both of which ended in 1966 as well, and a movie called "The Return of Ben Casey" in 1988.
9. In the series "Burke's Law", what type of car was associated with Captain Amos Burke?

Answer: Rolls-Royce

This series ran from 1963 to 1965. It starred Gene Barry as the captain of the homicide section in the Los Angeles police force. The elegant and smooth Captain Amos Burke was usually driven around in his bullet proof Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II.
10. Who played the husband of Eva Gabor in the television series "Green Acres"?

Answer: Eddie Albert

"Green Acres" ran from 1965 until 1971. The story revolved around an attorney, Oliver Wendell Douglas, who had always wanted to try his hand at farming, and who bought a beat up old farm in Hooterville, much to the horror of his socialite New York wife.

Not only did the couple have to deal with the numerous and comical residents of the nearby village, they also had to make do with an extremely dilapidated shack as a residence. Eddie Albert starred at Oliver, and the delightful Eva Gabor as his hard done by wife, Lisa.
