The so called talent scout is actually a shoe salesmen. Aunt Bee and Emma make it to where the men begin to believe he is actually a talent scout. It is their way of getting back at them for Andy claiming that women gossip too much.

They go to pick up the criminal when they find him sitting in a tree. Turns out that he was run up the tree by a black bear. The mayor gets his clothes all torn up and the bear finds its way into the back seat of the squad car with Andy and Barney on the roof.

Barney buys a kit where a dead count is suppose to grant wishes. He gives Opie three wishes; his first wish is to have a jackknife. A few seconds later, Andy walks in and gives him a jackknife he found in his desk drawer at home.

Otis, the town drunk, buys a car. He drives it by the jail to show it off to Andy and Barney. Andy asks if he has a license, which Otis shows to him. He says he's had one for years, but never got a chance to use it. He is taken in to custody later in the episode, but it is just to keep him safe and to try and teach him a lesson.

It is actually a near sighted convict named Luke. He thinks he is clever in putting shoes on the cows he steals to make it look as if there are three men stealing them. However, Andy gets the better of him by tricking him into trying to put shoes on a bull.

Aunt Bee comes out of the grocery store to find Andy and Barney talking with Bert. They make the joke about how she needs to make her mind up about what she wants out of the suitcase. She tells them she needs an apron. Burt tells Andy that they are under the spoons.

Although he has played the harmonica in a few other episodes, in this particular one he plays the cymbals. Andy clearly doesn't want Barney to join in with his cymbals, so he tells Barney he can be a stand by cymbalist.

Andy, in an attempt to make things right, gathers the boys in the court house and tricks them into listening to a story from history.
