1. What are the names of the three main characters in 'Day of the Tentacle'?

Answer: Bernard, Hoagie and Laverne

The three friends are called upon to stop the evil Purple Tentacle from taking over the world. In order to do this, Bernard stays in the present while Hoagie and Laverne travel to the past and the future.

2. 'Day of the Tentacle' is a sequel to which other LucasArts game?

Answer: Maniac Mansion

'Day of the Tentacle', or 'Maniac Mansion II', as it is sometimes known features some of the main characters from 'Maniac Mansion' and uses the same location. 'Maniac Mansion' can be accessed from 'Day of the Tentacle' by instructing Bernard to use the computer in Ed Edison's room.

3. Which location in the past is one of the characters accidentally transported to?

Answer: 18th Century America

Yes, Hoagie is fortunate enough to find himself outside the mansion 200 years into the past, where he encounters George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Hoagie's game is mainly centred on him bringing about the invention of electricity and a 'Super Battery' which will enable him to go back to the present.

Answer: They have become enslaved by Purple Tentacle's ancestors

Laverne finds herself stuck in a tree outside the mansion 200 years into the future. She is then caught by a Tentacle and imprisoned with ancestors of the Edisons. Her part of the game focuses on how she manages to free herself from the Tentacles.

5. Luckily for the good guys, they have a tentacle on their side as well. What colour is this tentacle?

Answer: green

Green Tentacle is startled at his friend's transformation. He spends most of the game hiding in his room...so it's not actually that much help!

6. Now lets go back to the beginning of the game. For those of you who did not skip the opening titles, what causes Purple Tentacle to become an evil genius?

It turns out that Purple Tentacle was a bit shifty to begin with, but he couldn't do anything about it. However, drinking toxic waste that has polluted the river outside the mansion causes him to grow hands (but no fingers!)-the ultimate tool required to take over the world!

7. There are three items required in order for Dr. Fred's ancestor to make a 'Super Battery'. These are oil, vinegar and which valuable substance?

Answer: gold

The first of these items, the oil, is easy enough to find. It simply sits on a shelf in the kitchen waiting to be discovered. The vinegar and gold are not so easy, and require lots of manipulation of time. It'll come to you eventually. Just persevere!

8. What invention does Purple Tentacle plan to use to take over the world?

Answer: shrinking ray gun

Purple Tentacle invents a shrinking ray gun and uses it towards the end of the game to try and defeat the good guys. However, the ray gun has one major fault-its batteries are constantly running out causing the shrinking effect to be only temporary.

9. What happens to Purple Tentacle after he is defeated?

Answer: He is shrunk with his own shrinking ray

Purple Tentacle is tricked into shrinking himself with the ray, and although Bernard does stamp on him, this does not kill him. He is then put into an envelope and sent via hamster-mail to a place far away, never to trouble mankind again.

Answer: false

False! At first Bernard, Laverne and Hoagie think they have become one being with two legs, two arms and three heads, but Dr. Fred quickly diagnoses that they have simply become stuck in one set of clothes. So everything ends happily.
