Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", Link pulled this blade out of the Pedestal of Time and was sealed in the Chamber of Sages. What blade is it?

Answer: Master Sword

One of the many iconic elements of the "Legend of Zelda" series, the Master Sword denoted Link's true standing as the Hero of Time and the savior of Hyrule. In "Ocarina of Time", Link pulls the Master Sword from its pedestal in the Temple of Time and is taken by the sages until he ages seven years to grow into the Hero of Time he was destined to be.

When Link pulled the sword from the pedestal, he also accidentally let Ganondorf enter the Sacred Realm to claim the Triforce for his own nefarious purposes. To revert back to his childhood, all Link needed to do was return the sword to its pedestal.

The Master Sword also appears in "A Link to the Past", "Wind Waker", and "Twilight Princess" among other games.
2. What is the name of the famous and rather large sword wielded by Cloud Strife in "Final Fantasy VII"?

Answer: Buster Sword

The Buster Sword is excessive but its size is often its most memorable attribute. Used by Cloud in battle, the Buster Sword is the first weapon Cloud uses in the game and while it's not used all throughout (because it's soon replaced time and time again) it does make the most lasting appearance.

This particular weapon is also featured prominently in the film adaptation of the game, "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children". Cloud reappears with the sword in "Kingdom Hearts" and it makes several recurring appearances in later games throughout the series, even if not used as a weapon.
3. What soul-devouring blade is the main enemy in many of the "Soul Calibur" games?

Answer: Soul Edge

Soul Edge is an immortal, sentient blade whose powers are often incomparable to the other fighters of the "Soul Calibur" series. Crafted by humans, but desecrated needlessly, the sword took on a life of its own and sided with evil, encompassing those who possessed it with rage and destructive powers.

The blade originally appeared in the precursor to "Soul Calibur" (also called "Soul Edge") and reappeared as a final boss in all later games of the series.
4. In the original "Kingdom Hearts" game, Sora, the protagonist, frequently made use of which of these weapons?

Answer: Keyblade

The Keyblade is an intriguing piece of craftsmanship in the "Kingdom Hearts" series. Although it's able to be used as a key to unlock very important hidden secrets in the series, it's also the weapon of choice for many of the series' protagonists including Sora, Roxas, and Mickey Mouse himself.

The Keyblade rarely changes throughout the games, but Keychains found around the different Disney-themed worlds can be used to up the strength of the object. While the Keyblade is quite useful in fighting the evils that are encountered throughout the different journeys taken by the player, it also has a tendency to attract said monsters, pulling them out of hiding in what may be considered safer places (Traverse Town, for example).
5. In "No More Heroes", Travis Touchdown uses which of these gaming blades?

Answer: Beam Katana

The Beam Katana is almost identical to the "Star Wars" lightsaber in that it glows ominously, is used by the heroic figure of the story, and it comes in pretty colours. Travis Touchdown got his original Beam Katana online and started using it to defeat some of the more dangerous citizens of Santa Destroy, California.

Other characters in "No More Heroes" and "No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle" appear with new katanas and different coloured beams. Travis can update his to look different throughout the storyline, but only if he ascends the ranks of the United Assassins Association by killing other assassins.
6. In "Halo", certain Elites used this weapon to attack foes, but the second game in the series allow the player to use it. What item is this?

Answer: Energy Sword

The Energy Sword was originally a Covenant weapon used in close-combat scenarios by the higher-ranked Elites (Elites could be judged by their colours in battle). When defeated, an Elite's Energy Sword would automatically disappear and the player wouldn't be able to pick it up. "Halo 2" introduced a number of new weapons for players to use including the Energy Sword which could be quite strong, especially against other Covenant (and, of course, the player could play as an Elite in some levels). The Energy Sword is not dual-wieldable.

It also has a battery limit, much like other Covenant weapons, and thus can not be used infinitely as a melee attack.
7. In the "Silent Hill" series, the nightmarish Pyramid Head uses what large item to slice enemies?

Answer: Great Knife

Although the name is simplistic, Pyramid Head's Great Knife is the thing of bad dreams. To heavy to be carried normally, the Great Knife is most frequently seen dragging behind the hulking boss, pulled by one hand. In "Silent Hill 2", James, the troubled main character, can find the Great Knife and use it to fight enemies later in the game.

It's in the watery labyrinth containing Pyramid Head's room. Of course, nothing in "Silent Hill" stays 'dead' for long, even if you use such a lethal blade. In the "Silent Hill" film adaptation, Pyramid Head puts the Great Knife to good use, slicing through thick metal doors and showing how powerful his blade actually is.
8. In Wii's "Super Smash Bros. Brawl", Marth utilizes which of these in battle?

Answer: Falchion

Marth, originly appearing in "Fire Emblem", puts his sword to good use in battle against Nintendo's finest in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl". In fact, the Falchion, one of Marth's most famous weapons from his original series, has a perk in "Brawl"; if you strike the opponent with the pointed tip, it does more damage.

This is unlike Ike's Ragnell (from the same series) and Roy's Sword of Seals. Other characters to use swords in the "Super Smash Bros." series are Link, Meta-Knight, and Ganondorf.
9. Found in the original "God of War" game (om the PS2), main character Kratos used which of these chained weapons?

Answer: Blades of Chaos

The Blades of Chaos were thick metal items attached to chains seared into his arms. Using these in his hands or flinging them at enemies or objects, Kratos was one of the strongest figures in the Greek world (according to the games, of course). These blades also made an appearance in the PSP game "God of War: Chains of Olympus".

In later games, the Blades of Chaos are upgraded into the Blades of Athena (in "God of War II") and the Blades of Exile (in "God of War III"). As he progresses through the games, new techniques and combos can be learned to inflict more damage on enemies.
10. What "World of Warcraft" sword, created for an episode of "South Park", was temporarily added into the game

Answer: The Sword of a 1000 Truths

The Sword of a 1000 Truths is quite the interesting one. Featured in the tenth season of "South Park" in the episode "Make Love, Not Warcraft", it was introduced by the game's designers to defeat a player who had not only amassed unspeakable power, but killed even the designers' in-game personas. Randy marsh brings the sword to the boys, all of whom have spent countless hours gaining weight and grinding levels in order to fight their unstoppable foe.

The Sword of a 1000 Truths was temporarily added into the actual game (as a joke) but it was renamed and replaced soon after by a sword known as Slayer of the Lifeless. Notable, the sword could instantly burn all of the foe's mana and deal 120 damage per second.

At the time it was considered powerful, but with the introduction of future patches and expansions, its attack power was overshadowed by other, stronger weapons.
