Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nancy Drew's fourth video game mystery, "Treasure in the Royal Tower," finds Nancy snowed in during a blizzard at Wisconsin's Wickford Castle, a ski resort. What has just happened at the castle that sparks Nancy's interest, and sends her on the trail of hidden treasure and the castle's royal secrets?

Answer: The library has been vandalized.

The "Nancy Drew" series of video games is not only challenging, but quite educational as well. "Treasure in the Royal Tower" is rich in French history - but remember, this is a video game: some elements of the game's storyline are purely fictional. Wickford Castle's tower once served as a prison to Marie Antoinette, whose treasure is supposedly somewhere on the castle's grounds. Nancy scours the castle in search of secrets and treasure, but another person at the resort is interested as well - and might bring harm to Nancy. Explore the castle's spooky corridors, brave the wintry weather, and watch out for danger in this mystery.
2. In Mystery #5, "The Final Scene," Nancy accompanies her friend Maya Nguyen to a movie premiere at a historic theater, the Royal Palladium. Just as Maya is going into the dressing room to interview the movie's star, Brady Armstrong, she is kidnapped! Nancy must discover the kidnapper's identity, and find Maya. However, what is wrong with this theater that lends even more urgency to solving the mystery?

Answer: The theater is scheduled to be demolished in three days.

The Royal Palladium is a illustrious old theater, filled with history: Harry Houdini had even performed there. Its scheduled demolition is truly a tragedy. Dig through the props of the theater's "magical" past, interview suspects who might have a motive for halting the theater's destruction, and work in the face of your toughest enemy, time, to save your friend from the clutches of her kidnapper, before the "The Final Scene" draws to a close.
3. Nancy is working as a volunteer intern at Washington, D.C.'s Beech Hill Museum in "Secret of the Scarlet Hand," Mystery #6. The museum is featuring exhibits and relics of the ancient Mayan culture. But of course, mystery follows Nancy Drew: while she is working nearby, a priceless artifact is stolen! What does the scarlet handprint have to do with the theft?

Answer: The thief leaves the Scarlet Hand at the scene of the crime, as a signature.

On her hunt for the thief in "Secret of the Scarlet Hand," Nancy follows a long-cold trail of secrets and fables from the ancient Mayan civilization. As always, this mystery game provides an educational environment, challenging puzzles and tasks, and a cast of characters to interrogate.

But be careful: though this mystery is founded in ancient history, the culprit might want to make Nancy a thing of the past, too.
4. Things get a little spooky in Nancy's seventh game, "Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake." Nancy is asked by her friend Sally MacDonald to play detective at Sally's cabin in Moon Lake, Pennsylvania - when she arrives, her hostess has fled the cabin and some strange things start to happen. Of course, the central part of this mystery revolves around the so-called ghost dogs: what does local legend have to say regarding the dogs?

Answer: The dogs belonged to gangster Malone, and they return from the grave whenever someone tries to live in Malone's cabin.

Moon Lake is a beautiful location, filled with nature. Birdwatching, boating, forests to explore, an old cabin: sounds great, right? Just wait until the Ghost Dogs appear! Should Nancy make a run for it, like her friend Sally did, or stick it out and discover who (or what) is really behind their appearances? Of course, being the super-sleuth that she is, Nancy can't let a chance to solve a mystery escape her. Find out the long-ago secrets of infamous gangster Mickey Malone and his pets, and return Moon Lake to the tranquil beauty spot it should be.
5. Poor Nancy, her vacations are always disrupted by mystery! Her whale-watching expedition quickly becomes "Danger on Deception Island," in Nancy Drew's ninth video game. Upon her arrival, what has happened regarding her hostess, Katie Firestone, a marine biologist?

Answer: Her boat was vandalized.

Nancy's attempted R & R in the town of Snake Horse Harbor, on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest, quickly turns to mystery when she learns that the town has been plagued with several "accidents," such as befell Katie, and is the site of a dispute involving an orphaned orca whale. Leave it to Nancy Drew to discover what's up on Deception Island. Go kayaking, visit the Hot Kettle Cafe, and explore sea caves in, "Danger on Deception Island."
6. Mystery #10, "The Secret of Shadow Ranch," is a western mystery, and is based on one of Nancy Drew's classic mystery books. In this game, Nancy can ride a horse, visit a ghost town, and perform various tasks around the ranch. But this sounds too serene: what is the mystery here?

Answer: The ranch is visited by a "phantom" horse, and something goes wrong every time it comes.

Nancy's vacation to Shadow Ranch, in Arizona, hardly goes as planned from the moment she arrives. The phantom horse's visits, and ensuing accidents, lead Nancy to discover a romantic tale of the Old West, and stories of treasure. "The Secret of Shadow Ranch" is based on Nancy's best-selling book of all time, first published in 1931.

This game has a more modern touch, however, complete with the Internet, e-mail, and cell phones.
7. Nancy travels across the pond to an old castle in England in her first international mystery, "The Curse of Blackmoor Manor," the eleventh game in the series. This game is not for the faint of heart, however, as there is no lack of creepy and mysterious goings-on at Blackmoor Manor. For what reason is Nancy visiting Blackmoor Manor?

Answer: To find out why the new lady of the house mysteriously conceals herself behind a curtain.

Linda Penvellyn, the daughter of Nancy's neighbor, has recently married a British diplomat and moved to England, to reside in the Penvellyn's Blackmoor Manor. Soon after Linda arrived, she began been acting very strangely, and hides behind a curtain in her bedroom: her mother has asked Nancy Drew to investigate.

This may well be Nancy's scariest case yet - Blackmoor Manor has a rather unusual history, filled with, among other things, tales of beasts and werewolves. Our plucky detective Nancy must be brave, and find out what's really behind the "Curse of Blackmoor Manor."
8. Mystery #16, "The White Wolf of Icicle Creek," finds Nancy again in a winter wonderland, although she's not even going to try for a relaxing vacation here. Several strange accidents have befallen Icicle Creek Lodge, and the owner has called in Nancy Drew to find out what's going on. How does the white wolf, Isis, fit into the case?

Answer: The wolf always appears at the scene of the accident.

Nancy has to fight the cold in this game, much as she did in "Treasure in the Royal Tower." But this time, Nancy has ways to deal with it (in short durations, anyway). In her investigations of the disasters at Icicle Creek Lodge in the Canadian Rockies, Nancy goes snowshoeing, rides a snowmobile, icefishes, and plays maid and cook at the Lodge.

But beware of hypothermia and avalanches! Discover the secrets of the white wolf and the saboteur's identity in, "The White Wolf of Icicle Creek."
9. Nancy's eighteenth mystery, "The Phantom of Venice," takes her abroad once more, to Italy. However, the relaxing sight-seeing trip is only a pretense, this time. Nancy has come to the Land of Gondolas to aid the Italian police in what endeavor?

Answer: The investigation of a series of thefts, and unveiling a crime syndicate.

Nancy is tasked with assisting Italy's GdiF in the case of the "Phantom of Venice." Her mission involves spying on suspects, collecting clues, and the infiltration of a crime ring who is stealing historic artifacts in Venice. In her efforts to unmask the thief, Nancy can experience Venice's gondola rides (complete with singing gondoliers), play the Italian card game Scopa, dance in a cat costume to earn Euros (yes, a cat costume!), and even learn some of the Italian language.
10. Nancy finds herself in a rather eerie location in Mystery #19, "The Haunting of Castle Malloy." Nancy is becoming quite the globetrotter, as Castle Malloy is located in Ireland. Kyler Mallory is planning to hold her wedding at the castle, and has asked Nancy to be her maid of honor. Nancy arrives at Castle Malloy to find what?

Answer: The groom, Matt, has mysteriously disappeared.

Welcome to Ireland, the land of faeries and superstition. But be sure and keep yer wits about ye, and don't let Castle Malloy's ghostly legends be scarin' ye off! Is Matt's disappearance part of a practical joke, or is it something more mysterious? Explore the castle's grounds, help out at the Screaming Banshee Inn, and assist hopeful Kyler to plan her wedding in, "The Haunting of Castle Malloy."
