Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You had to love a commercial which began with Joe Buck nodding off while Troy Aikman was talking. But Joe wasn't the only one nodding off. This commercial was filled with tired, bobble-headed people who, after drinking Diet Pepsi Max, were turned into clones of the Roxbury guys from an "SNL" skit. Which actor from the original skit made an appearance in the commercial?

Answer: Chris Kattan

Using the same music from the "SNL" skit ("What is Love?" by Haddaway), the ad showed various people nodding off. Among those shown were a man at a diner, office workers, a couple of parking valets, a couple of cowboys, song of the year nominees (Missy Elliot, Macy Gray, LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes), a game show contestant, a car mechanic, and a guy working in a bobble-head factory.

After being revitalized by drinking Diet Pepsi Max, all began doing the side head bob à la the Roxbury guys. Following the graphic, which said to "Wake Up People", the commercial ended with two women doing the Roxbury bob at the dry cleaners. Chris Kattan walked out between them and said, "Stop it!". Tom Hanks and Martin Short also joined Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell as the Roxbury guys in "SNL" skits, but my favorite is the one which included Jim Carrey as one of the three guys who went out clubbing in New York.

The commercial, not surprisingly, was titled "Nod".
2. A squirrel who had gone out into the road to retrieve a fallen acorn turned to see a car quickly approaching him. As he stared at the oncoming vehicle, he screamed, and was joined by other animals also screaming. What brand of tire was being advertised in this commercial?

Answer: Bridgestone

As soon as the squirrel began screaming, other animals joined in including a raccoon, an owl, a rabbit, and a deer. When the woman in the car (the same woman who played the doo doo head cootie queen in the Orbit gum commercial) also began screaming, the male driver looked over at her, obviously annoyed, and calmly steered the car safely around the squirrel thanks to his Bridgestone tires.

The squirrel looked after the car and then scampered off the road. Bridgestone, the official tire of the NFL, sponsored the halftime show which starred Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
3. In the hilarious commercial for Tide to Go, a man conducting a job interview asked the applicant to "tell me about yourself". The interviewee began talking about his qualifications, but the interviewer was distracted by something. What was getting his attention?

Answer: a talking stain

The interviewer was listening to the man discuss his work experience, but every time the man spoke, a coffee stain on his shirt spoke over him in gibberish. Eventually the interviewer's attention was held by the stain, which only became quiet when the man stopped talking. "Silence the stain, instantly" appeared on the screen, just before the stain was silenced by a Tide pen with mytalkingstain.com appearing below it.
4. In this inspiring Budweiser commercial, Hank was downcast after he didn't make the Clydesdale hitch team. The horse was then guided through training by another animal, accompanied by "Gonna Fly Now" from "Rocky". What animal coached Hank?

Answer: a dog

The Dalmatian watched as Thunder, rather than Hank, was the final horse selected for the team. After seeing the horses being hitched to the wagon, a sad Hank was approached by the Dalmatian, who got Hank to follow him. With his personal trainer close by (and the "Rocky" theme playing), Hank was shown doing strength training exercises, even working out in rain and snow. Eventually Hank was able to pull a train, making the wagon team the following year.

As he was led out and welcomed to the team, Hank high-fived his canine friend.
5. As a red Panhard PL17 drove through the streets of Paris, we could hear a Garmin GPS giving instructions to the driver. When the car arrived at its destination, who climbed out?

Answer: Napoleon Bonaparte

As it careened through the streets, people looked at the car in surprise since it appeared no one was driving. It was apparent, however, after seeing a hand throw money in a toll basket, that there was someone driving and they were just very short. Despite not being able to see over the dash, Napoleon was able to successfully arrive at Parc De Saint Cloud where his troops awaited him, with the help of his Garmin Nuvi. Stepping out of his car, Napoleon gazed appreciatively at the GPS, but put it quickly inside his jacket when he saw the soldiers looking at him. With a wave of his hand, Napoleon's miniature horse was brought forward and he was ready to lead the troops. Garmin's slogan at the end of the ad was "Follow the Leader".
6. An unattractive woman with a unibrow inexplicably attracted men everywhere she went during the day. We later found out her secret when we saw that she used Planter's nuts as a perfume. What song was playing during the ad?

Answer: Can't Take My Eyes Off You

Our heroine, dressed mostly in pink and with only slightly overdone makeup, was shown in an elevator with a guy who, well, couldn't take his eyes off her. Others affected by her snack food charm included a man who walked through a glass door and a coffee shop guy who neglected his work. On the bus, all the men sat near her, while outside a man on a bike ran into the back of a taxi because he was distracted by her. We then saw that part of her beauty routine involved dabbing a Planter's cashew nut behind both ears, on the wrist, and even at the cleavage area.

The commercial ended with two men colliding while watching her walk away, as Frankie Valli continued singing "I love you baby...".
7. Basketball player Dwyane Wade was glad to hear that he'd been added to someone's Fave 5, and invited the person to call him anytime, in an ad from T-Mobile. The person took him literally and Dwyane was inundated with calls. Who was this frequent caller?

Answer: Charles Barkley

After Charles Barkley told Dwyane the good news, Dwyane asked if it was real, and then hugged Barkley when he said yes. Then, the calls started. Dwyane received calls from Chuck when he was asleep, in the shower, at lunch, at practice and after games.

He had to explain that he knew how to dunk and was heard saying "yes sir" to Chuck. Among the things Chuck said to Dwyane: his defense was shaky, he should either play better or call in sick, HD meant high definition, "do you like popsicles?", "that's why I don't eat shrimp", and the goes-without-saying "I need to come hang out with you because I am really bored." Dwyane even tried to get off of the phone with Chuck when he was in the shower by saying he was losing him because he was going through a tunnel, but Chuck didn't believe it. Dwyane realized he should be more careful when saying "call me anytime". T-Mobile's slogan for the ad was "Stick Together".
8. A car buyer brought along a friend in the Cars.com commercial entitled "Witch Doctor". As a result, somebody ended up with a shrunken head.

Answer: True

Sitting down to complete a purchase, a car salesman told the buyer that he really knew the car. The buyer said that he researched the car on Cars.com which really helped. He also added that now he wouldn't need to resort to Plan B. When the salesman asked what Plan B was, the buyer explained that he brought a witch doctor along who was going to shrink the salesman's head if the buyer didn't get what he wanted.

As the salesman looked disbelievingly at the witch doctor sitting in the waiting area, a mechanic with a shrunken head walked up and said, "Can I get out of here, I've got a tiny head".

The buyer said sorry about that and suggested that he should get the witch doctor out of there. The salesman agreed.
9. In an ad entitled "Unexpected Obstacles", a car driving along a dark, winding road revealed a deer in its headlights. The car steered around the deer and then illuminated a strange-looking man in the road holding a large snake. Successfully steering around him as well, the car next picked up another man in its headlights. Who was this man?

Answer: Richard Simmons

Strangely enough, the driver showed little reaction when he came upon Alice Cooper frozen in his headlights holding a snake. Then we saw Richard Simmons in the road, working out while saying "And squeeze those buns, you are so worth it." While Richard continued with "Come on girls, squeeze, squeeze, tone, tone", we got a glimpse of the driver's raised eyebrow, a hand squeezing the steering wheel tighter and a foot pressing hard on the accelerator. Richard screamed as the car zoomed closer, but the driver reluctantly went around him.

While the car went on down the road, Richard resumed his workout saying, "That is fantastic! I believe in you!". The voiceover revealed who the ad was for by telling us "For drivers who want to get the most out of their cars, it's Bridgestone or nothing."
10. Breaking away from their handlers at the Macy's parade, the Stewie and Underdog balloons both tried to get the Coke balloon, in this inventive ad entitled "It's Mine". After the Coke bottle got away from them, who ended up with it?

Answer: Charlie Brown

Waiting for the parade, Stewie turned to look at the Coke bottle just as Underdog had the same idea. Accompanied by the Overture to "Barber of Seville" by Rossini, Stewie and Underdog both chased after the bottle as it floated away. While Stewie and Underdog jostled each other and bumped into buildings, the Coke bottle managed to elude both of them and float away over Central Park.

A familiar face rose up from the other side of the park, and as Stewie and Underdog looked on from afar, Charlie Brown was united with the Coke bottle over the park. "The Coke side of life" slogan superimposed over a bottle silhouette appeared while the familiar Coke jingle played.
