Game of Thrones, the books, that's a lot of reading, I made it through three of them, before I shut it down. I didn't think that I would finish the series before I died, yet here I still am.

I might get to the cinema soon since my wife wants to see the new Jurassic Park movie and I want to see the Han Solo movie. It's only fair to see one each eh!

Moneyball the book, is much better than the movie, and I do enjoy watching baseball, but I don't enjoy watching failure.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
Director: J.A. Bayona

Stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt

Dragged by wife to see this. What a terrible movie. Even my wife who has a soft spot for the franchise (she likes Jurassic Park 3 for some reason) turned to me as the credits rolled and said, "well that was crap!"

Absolute dross, don't bother with it, there is really nothing worth seeing about it.

Star Trek: Beyond (2016)

I saw it had appeared on Netflix and so finally decided to give it a watch. Whilst not a great (or even good) movie by any stretch I do not find it as offensive as a Star Trek fan as the previous instalment.

It's a fun, superficial romp with small references to the source tv show and movies. Nothing special but as long as I'm not being aggravated by it then it is passable in my book, it's still so lame so many ways though. So much running around, shouting, swearing, exploding and so on. I never care what is happening to the characters and that is a big problem. Oh well, they are making what the masses want to see. Glad I didn't pay for it on the big screen.

Although I am a Star Trek fan, that does not mean I reflexively think every Star Trek movie is good. I have not particularly liked the reboots. The first one was OK, but Star Trek: Into Darkness and Star Trek: Beyond were both annoying to me. Into Darkness wasted an interesting premise. Long before that movie was released, rumors kept coming out that it was going to feature the character Khan Noonien Singh, who was the villain in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which most Trek fans, including myself, consider the best of all the Star Trek movies, primarily because of the over-the-top performance of the late Ricardo Montalban as Khan. So as these rumors kept coming out, the executives kept denying them, but I (and I suspect a lot of other Star Trek fans) knew that something wasn't right. For example, originally Benecio Del Toro was cast to play "some part" in the movie. Speculation abounded that Del Toro was to have played Khan, because Del Toro is Hispanic, as was Ricardo Montalban (Montalban was actually a Mexican national, despite a very long career in US television and movies.) Then Del Toro abruptly quit and was replaced by the fine actor Benedict Cumberbatch. So, as anyone who saw Into Darkness knows, Cumberbatch was the central villain of the movie, called John Harrison, until late in the movie when he suddenly reveals that he is, in fact, - wait for it - Khan. This was extremely disappointing to me. As I said, I consider Benedict Cumberbatch to be a fine actor and have enjoyed many of his roles (anyone see The Imitation Game? I loved it.) But he is definitely *not* Hispanic, and his portrayal of Khan was nothing like Ricardo Montalban's. In my opinion, casting Benedict Cumberbatch to play Khan was as bad a case of Hollywood miscasting as when John Wayne had been cast as *Genghis* Khan in The Conqueror. Just because an actor is talented doesn't mean he can play *any* role. The movie was silly.

I gave my thoughts on Into Darkness previously but i consider it to be an abomination but not necessarily for the reasons of the miscast Cumberbatch.

Yes I saw Imitation Game, loved it.

Hubby and I just went to our first movie in a year. Mission Impossible. It was OK. Some of the action scenes were too drawn out and tiresome. We stopped going to movies on a regular bases when cell phone addiction became a problem in theaters. That and unruly kids. Really....who takes a toddler to a "R" rated movie?

Mission: Impossible Fallout is PG-13 (as all the Mission: Impossible movies have been), not R. Nevertheless, I don't think parents should take toddlers to PG-13 movies, either. But the current state of parenting in the world is quite poor. People need licenses to go fishing, but any idiot can be a parent.

The Mission: Impossible movies have never really appealed to me. I've seen one of them. The one when he's in Dubai at one point and Simon Pegg is in it. It was ok.

I have seen a movie at the cinema in the past two weeks:
Thomas & Friends: Big World! Big Adventures!

Quite a nice addition to the Thomas the tank engine world I thought. Quite a nice moral to it.

When my son was young, we used to watch Thomas the Tank Engine and then Rugrats as often as possible. Very enjoyable!

My youngest wanted The Little Mermaid Disney movie again this evening. Rubbish movie, with questionable moral to it. I think we are going to have an ‘accident’ with that dvd. ;)

I wonder if morals get snuck into childrens movies as an afterthought or if they are part of some sinister plot.

Tangled (2010)

The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.

Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi

Well, as I've said already most of the movies I watch at the moment are with the kids (aged 4 and 2). So with that in mind I would like to say that the above has fast become my favourite Disney movie. Not that I've seen all that many, but most of the ones I have seen irritate me in some way. This doesn't.

I love the music, but that's usually a given with Disney. I like the story, I like the characters, I like the comedy! I LOVE that the princess is not obsessed with and defined by the prince (or in this case the regular guy) or with the notion of falling in love or getting married. They fall in love in a more natural way, this could be told in any romance story in any movie. I like the way the story is wrapped up, very nicely done.

I took the kids to watch it at the cinema, they had it on as a kids special feature. I must say that the lantern sequence that culminates with the song, 'I See The Light' works incredibly well cinematically.

All in all it's a pleasure to end up watching this movie, or parts of it at least, repeatedly.

Smallfoot (2018)

A Yeti is convinced that the elusive creatures known as "humans" really do exist.

Changing Tatum and James Corden

I should have said about Tangled, that not only do I like it but both my kids (4 & 2) do also and can both watch it right through and did from the first watch.

The reason I feel that that comment is relevant is that they both got seriously bored by Smallfoot. Perhaps it is aimed slightly older than my two!? Not sure. I found some of the premises quite interesting but ultimately the execution slightly off. Still enjoyable though and deeper than some movies of this type.

The interest level of switching up the traditional nobody believes anyone that claims to have seen a yeti with the idea that a society of yetis could feel the same about someone claiming to have seen a human. That doesn't have legs but we soon find ourselves exploring a theme very different.

It explores the idea of faith in a doctrine or a set of beliefs and what happens when said beliefs can be discredited or they aren't consistent with modern knowledge or modern sensibilities. So it gets you thinking about dogma coming before critical thinking and the real life scenarios where this might play out. So quite interesting that is! It also touches on some level prejudices and fear and how they relate to the formation of doctrine.

The songs and animation are not my favourites with the exception of the Stonekeepers song, voiced by rapper Common. That is the standout song that made me sit up and think, "whoa, if only the rest was of this quality".

Good effort though! Not a trip to the cinema entirely wasted.

Channing Tatum and James Corden in the same film, voices only??? I have Channing Tatum's zed card (model card) back when he was making ends meet by modeling. That guy is smoking hot. Then he admitted to someone how he made his way through college, or possibly just life at that time (hellooooo Magic Mike,) and the rest is history.

I had no clue either of them, especially James Corden, had done any voice acting, though!

As long as you're trapped in Disney (I was going to say hell, but let's go with "land,") do you have access to "Beauty And The Beast"? I haven't seen the live movie, but I did see the live Disney stage presentation in Denver, and it blew me away. But the animated BATB is also great. How about "Sleeping Beauty"? My all-time favorite Disney film. And what else do I have on hand for little nieces? I think I have Snow White. Thinking and thinking... when Disney "releases" an oldie but a goodie every once in awhile, and then assures us (read: threatens) to "lock it in the Disney vault for another 50 years!" they aren't kidding. They lock them up in a vault and you can't even rent them. So when they show up, I buy them as fast as I can.

I haven't seen "Frozen" yet -- how about you?

Yo, Bernard, if they were to ever come out with a movie called "The Life and Times of Sadwings," would you and your wife be the first ones in line to see it? :-)

Sure we could, you sure there'd be a line though? Haha just kidding.

Apologies I forgot to reply to you Elle. We have various Disney including Beauty and the Beast, but unfortunately I haven't gotten to watch it yet because they are frightened of it!

I quite like Frozen yeah, I like Lion King, don't like Cinderella, don't like Little Mermaid, don't like Aladdin, I liked Jungle book when I was little.

We recently got a movie on DVD called the Secret life of pets. It's quite entertaining, the kids absolutely love it and keep asking for it.

As for me, I went to see the latest Transformers reboot, Bumblebee. Thoughts coming soon.

I'm not really watching movies much at the moment. Just watched the first episode of the new series of Star Trek Discovery tonight. Very underwhelming... I'm working my way through my favourite Star Trek series again, Deep Space Nine, just into season 5. X-Files reruns are on weeknights from the beginning so I'm tuning into that when I can. I'm working my way slowly through Mad Men and I'm watching Narcos: Mexico. It's all slow progress but I usually watch one thing per night, usually when I'm washing the dishes.

Disney

Fantasia, even if you don't like the film, the soundtrack is worth the effort.
