Game of Thrones, the books, that's a lot of reading, I made it through three of them, before I shut it down. I didn't think that I would finish the series before I died, yet here I still am. Reply #381. Jun 12 18, 10:01 AM |

Moneyball the book, is much better than the movie, and I do enjoy watching baseball, but I don't enjoy watching failure. Reply #384. Jun 14 18, 11:40 AM |

Although I am a Star Trek fan, that does not mean I reflexively think every Star Trek movie is good. I have not particularly liked the reboots. The first one was OK, but Star Trek: Into Darkness and Star Trek: Beyond were both annoying to me. Into Darkness wasted an interesting premise. Long before that movie was released, rumors kept coming out that it was going to feature the character Khan Noonien Singh, who was the villain in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which most Trek fans, including myself, consider the best of all the Star Trek movies, primarily because of the over-the-top performance of the late Ricardo Montalban as Khan. So as these rumors kept coming out, the executives kept denying them, but I (and I suspect a lot of other Star Trek fans) knew that something wasn't right. For example, originally Benecio Del Toro was cast to play "some part" in the movie. Speculation abounded that Del Toro was to have played Khan, because Del Toro is Hispanic, as was Ricardo Montalban (Montalban was actually a Mexican national, despite a very long career in US television and movies.) Then Del Toro abruptly quit and was replaced by the fine actor Benedict Cumberbatch. So, as anyone who saw Into Darkness knows, Cumberbatch was the central villain of the movie, called John Harrison, until late in the movie when he suddenly reveals that he is, in fact, - wait for it - Khan. This was extremely disappointing to me. As I said, I consider Benedict Cumberbatch to be a fine actor and have enjoyed many of his roles (anyone see The Imitation Game? I loved it.) But he is definitely *not* Hispanic, and his portrayal of Khan was nothing like Ricardo Montalban's. In my opinion, casting Benedict Cumberbatch to play Khan was as bad a case of Hollywood miscasting as when John Wayne had been cast as *Genghis* Khan in The Conqueror. Just because an actor is talented doesn't mean he can play *any* role. The movie was silly. Reply #387. Jul 17 18, 6:02 PM |

Hubby and I just went to our first movie in a year. Mission Impossible. It was OK. Some of the action scenes were too drawn out and tiresome. We stopped going to movies on a regular bases when cell phone addiction became a problem in theaters. That and unruly kids. Really....who takes a toddler to a "R" rated movie? Reply #389. Mission: Impossible Fallout is PG-13 (as all the Mission: Impossible movies have been), not R. Nevertheless, I don't think parents should take toddlers to PG-13 movies, either. But the current state of parenting in the world is quite poor. People need licenses to go fishing, but any idiot can be a parent. Reply #390. Aug 09 18, 3:00 AM |

When my son was young, we used to watch Thomas the Tank Engine and then Rugrats as often as possible. Very enjoyable! Reply #392. Aug 18 18, 8:26 AM |

I wonder if morals get snuck into childrens movies as an afterthought or if they are part of some sinister plot. Reply #394. Aug 18 18, 2:10 PM |

Channing Tatum and James Corden in the same film, voices only??? I have Channing Tatum's zed card (model card) back when he was making ends meet by modeling. That guy is smoking hot. Then he admitted to someone how he made his way through college, or possibly just life at that time (hellooooo Magic Mike,) and the rest is history. I had no clue either of them, especially James Corden, had done any voice acting, though! As long as you're trapped in Disney (I was going to say hell, but let's go with "land,") do you have access to "Beauty And The Beast"? I haven't seen the live movie, but I did see the live Disney stage presentation in Denver, and it blew me away. But the animated BATB is also great. How about "Sleeping Beauty"? My all-time favorite Disney film. And what else do I have on hand for little nieces? I think I have Snow White. Thinking and thinking... when Disney "releases" an oldie but a goodie every once in awhile, and then assures us (read: threatens) to "lock it in the Disney vault for another 50 years!" they aren't kidding. They lock them up in a vault and you can't even rent them. So when they show up, I buy them as fast as I can. I haven't seen "Frozen" yet -- how about you? Reply #397. Dec 26 18, 10:23 PM |

Yo, Bernard, if they were to ever come out with a movie called "The Life and Times of Sadwings," would you and your wife be the first ones in line to see it? :-) Reply #398. Jan 18 19, 4:50 PM |

Disney Fantasia, even if you don't like the film, the soundtrack is worth the effort. Reply #400. Jan 18 19, 8:16 PM |
