I believe it's just Mussorgsky's Night On A Bare Mountain which you could listen to separately.

I haven't seen Fantasia, though I really would like to, and I really would like to watch more films, but I just don't have time/am not really much of a film buff anyway, but I've realized now that they are a cornerstone and essential part of trivia, also they can help you answer questions on books which have been made into films.

I don't seem to have much time either!

I would have commented on the film Ali today, unfortunately I fell asleep half way through it last night. Tonight I fell asleep halfway through the series opener of the new series of The Contender that I had been looking forward to... and a couple of days ago I threw on the DVD of Princess Bride after being reminded of it by the duel and fell asleep halfway through that too!

So, yeah, by the time I can sit down front of the tv on an evening I'm already so tired that it's almost pointless trying to watch anything.

I saw the film Bumblebee at the cinema last month, nothing much to say about that except the opening sequence was sooo G1 that it was awesome. Any fan of the G1 transformers cartoon will know what I mean. Aside from that it was fairly formulaic. Pretty much a retreading of the first Bayformers movie except with a girl in the lead role who was more interesting and had better back story than Shia Leboeuf's character in the earlier movie.

I watched Selma on DVD (without falling asleep), I enjoyed that a lot but hopefully will comment separately soon.

I would like to go and see Fighting With My Family. That looks good, I think I'd enjoy that. But really I'm still watching more TV series than movies at the moment and that's not about to change soon I don't think with the new Game of Thrones series imminent and as I got through the new Star Trek series. I'm also heading through Mad Men.

Bumblebee (2018)

On the run in the year of 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.

Hailee Steinfeld
Jorge Lendeberg Jr
John Cena

Ahh, tempted into returning to the cinema by my good friend. Unfortunately this film is not a good reason to go. Whilst it is something of an improvement on the Bayformers movies, not by much.

I did, however, adore the opening sequence where Cybertron is shown and some very lovely homage CGI has been made to mirror G1 Transformers. It was awesome. THAT is what I wanted to see when Michael Bays first Transformers reboot movie came out.

Hailee Steinfeld is good in the lead role. Very engaging and believable. John Cena is wooden, so much so that it is funny to watch. I think the plot is functional and does the trick, I wasn't actually clock watching all that much through this movie. There are some heartstrings to pull too with some great humour.

Not something I'll be watching again but good enough fun for an evening out at the cinema.

Yes, Mr. Moore was truly a fine actor who contributed a lot of things to the entertainment industry. Tomorrow will be two years since he passed. Very talented and remarkable man.

Just stopped by to make sure Bernard wasn't causing any trouble on his blog. He is so totally out of control, I just thought I would check and make sure. Just clowning around, Bernard! You big trivia bully! :-p You can even the score by dropping by the Bar and Grill over on General Chat Street to check up on me to make sure I'm not running roughshod all over my patrons and just going totally out of control over there. Got free buckets of the finest grog known to mankind going on over there right now. :-)

My team has a "bar" thread which is run by one of our players and our team captain who is from Australia. I'm always stopping in and ordering an extra large bucket of grog and a large bowl of vegemite with a tablespoon. :-p

I wish I could remember the last movie I went to. The people who go to the movies now can't seem to sit still, shut their pie holes, or stay off their cell phones long enough to watch a movie. I really should go get a new DVR and watch movies at home :)

You know it's really weird when people tell me that is the reason they don't like going to the cinema because I so rarely experience any of that. Maybe get sat near someone noisy once in twenty visits? Maybe less! So as a modern day movie goer who has been a lot over the past five to ten years allow me to reassure anyone that people who go to movies these days are not always going to spoil it.

Recently I've watched quite a few films that I intend to talk about.
With the kids I've seen Moana, Beauty and the Beast, Secret Life of Pets 2.
By myself I've been trudging through the MCU by watching Age of Ultron, Ant Man, Guardians of the galaxy volume 2, Infinity War and on Wednesday I saw Endgame.

The difference in behavior (concerning movie theaters) across the pond is probably better management and enforcing rules. Parents here have become deaf and dumb when it comes to their kids behavior. Restaurants are even worse. Discipline has become too lax in the USA.

Spoiler alert, don't read on if you haven't seen Mary Poppins Returns and really want to see it and have managed to avoid reading anything about it!

I was sat in the same room when family where watching Mary Poppins returns a few days ago and imagine my surprise when 90-odd year old Dick Van Dyke pops up for a cameo reprisal of his old banker character! It was great! Almost worth sitting through the drivel just for that! He breaks out into a dance and everything. Great surprise.

Of late I've seen Frozen II, Bolt, Johnny English Strikes Back, Unstoppable.

Mostly Im watching Highander the series. This is a nineties program featuring Adrian Paul as Duncan McLeod who s a clansman of Connor McLeod who featured in the movies.

Nice to revisit a program I loved when it as first shown.

I always found the premise to be very interesting. What would we do with immortality? What would it feel like? How would we cope with our mortal loved ones passing away over and over while we remained.

I don't think that it necessarily would be either good or bad. It would, however, present complications that need to be considered, such as the passing away of family members that you mentioned.

The classic "Twilight Zone" episode "Long Live Walter Jameson" gets into some of the thorny issues. But I can think of other things to consider besides just that. What if you were aged and invalid for all eternity? Eternal life does not necessarily mean eternal youth and vigor. What would mortals think about you getting to live forever when they couldn't? Wouldn't you be forced to somehow keep your immortality a secret? Fake your death from time to time and assume a new identity? And if you did that, wouldn't an ex-spouse from an old identity present a danger to you in some way if you were discovered by them. Is there a distinction between potential immortality (you *could* be immortal *if* certain things are true, but some things (like bullets) might still kill you) versus absolute immortality (*nothing* can kill you, no matter what). Imagine a whole world full of absolutely immortal people. Would that be a good thing if there was no way anyone could die?

Check out "Long Live Walter Jameson" (available on Netflix and many other places) to see many of these questions explored.

In regards to just movies, I liked "Interview With The Vampire" with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise on this immortality issue. Cruise's Lestat was a very enthusiastic vampire, but Pitts' Louis was quite upset about his particular "gift" of immortality. Louis taking care of his dying blind father in 18th century France is one touching scene in the movie.

Yes, in highlander the series (or the movies) there are relatively few immortals. They keep their identity secret and like you say they continually need to reinvent their life somewhere else.

In the series an immortal doesn't know they are one until they die for the first time. It's at that point that they stop ageing so yes there might be an immortal in an older body. Or the opposite. In the episode I just watched the immortal that Duncan encounters is in a 10 year olds body despite being over 800 years old. He survived through cunning, trickery and playing on looking like a child in order to surprise unsuspecting immortals (because the only way they die is when someone chops off their head, and if it's another immortal then they take their power).

I only listed a couple of the issues in my original post, the series being typical 90's TV has the luxury of 20-odd episode seasons to fill up with lots of different scenarios.

The main running theme is the pain of love and loss though.

I will try to check that out on Netflix though, sounds good.

Watched 'Fighting With My Family' last night. Another good wrestling movie! Based on the UK's Knight wrestling family. It's about the daughter, Saraya, and her journey to becoming a WWE star (WWE's Paige).

Great humour. especially in the UK parts and actors. Nice story. Great appearances from Dwayne Johnson. Nice, feel good movie. Well worth checking out even if you know nothing about pro wrestling.

Highlander, yes. That is one classic '90s show. Swordfights, immortality and all its ramifications, beautiful scenery, and of course a Queen soundtrack. It didn't have the budget of today's mega-hits, but that is probably for the best, it allowed the show to explore so many issues. Plus, it came at just the right time, before everything was digitised. Nowadays the issue of creating a whole new identity would be immensely more complicated. And as a bonus, because it was a part-French production, the back half of each season was set in Paris.

Yes, the first half of every season was shot in and around Vancouver and the second half, as you say, in Paris.

I have been having fun recognising some of the locations in Vancouver because we have visited there in 2010.

Also fun spotting the interesting guest stars they had. Roger Daltrey for example.

Roger Daltrey, of course. They also had Joan Jett guest star in one of the early episodes. And the guy who plays Xavier, his name escapes me right now, is also in a band. Fine Young Cannibals, if I remember correctly.

Roland Gift, he appeared in two episodes. In the second one he was sporting a cool looking hook!

Anthony Stewart Head, Jason Isaacs, Marion Cotillard, Sheena Easton, Martin Kemp, Roddy Piper... all appeared as guest stars.

I just read that Stan Kirsch, who played Richie in Highlander the series, has taken his own life just a couple of days ago. He was 51. Sad news and strange coincidence that I am currently rewatching the series after 25 years as I have been saying above.
