My prayers go out to your dad and your family.
Also to Priscilla. I have known a few one person kitties.

Nice to be able to read the news. Generally, newspaper type news (even on line) gives you more choices than the TV or radio, both of which have a tendency to repeat what they deem to be the 'important' news stories.

Priscilla is a queen, but even queens must eat when their chosen personal valet is unavailable. She'll muddle through (smile)

Thanks Postie and hekawi. I certainly hope you're right, Postie.

The latest: Dad goes in at noon for surgery at 1:30. Sis and Patty will stay with him till they call him, and then will go out for coffee. I'm unclear when he'll be able to have visitors, but probably not till the evening, so it occurs to me while writing that I don't know how that will work. Presumably Patty or Patty and Sis will visit ASAP. He'll be in hospital at least one night.

They took Dad on time, and Sis said he seemed relaxed. She met the surgeon. She said he seemed trustworthy. The operation will last an hour and a half to two and a half hours, depending on what they find. So, now we wait.

There is a possibility he may come home tonight; otherwise, at least one night in hospital.

Oh, my goodness! I've been on the phone ever since Sis called at 4:00.

Dad came through the surgery just fine. He will definitely stay in the hospital tonight, and maybe tomorrow night as well. It depends on the bleeding, so Sis said enigmatically.

They found bladder cancer, but apparently it is a non-aggressive type that can be treated in the doctor's office. Sis was vague - something about medicine that is injected... In any case, it can be treated.

The doctor suspects prostate cancer, but will run a biopsy. Sis didn't mention the bladder stone, so presumably that was taken care of.

Good news, Cat!

Sounds like what they found is fixable, so the treatment may annoy your dad, but he'll muddle through.

How's Priscilla doing?

As Postie predicted, Priscilla ate her supper. Phew!

That's right. It sounds like more of an annoyance than anything else.

Wonderful news about your father, Cat!

My nephew had bladder cancer eight or ten years ago. His treatment was going to the doctor's office (not hospital). They first had him empty his bladder and they then filled his bladder with some solution which eventually killed the cancer. I think he was supposed to hold it as long as he could before urinating. Forget how often he went, but it was several treatments.

Thanks everybody♥

Sis spent most of the day at the hospital with Dad. It is very frustrating. Noone will tell him anything. Specifically, still no word of the biopsy results.

First, word was that he might come home today, then not. There's still too much blood in his urine. His IV is in the inside of his elbow with the predictable result that, every time he moves, it pulls loose. And, when it pulls loose, an alarm sounds. There is a green button he can push to shut off the alarm, or he could if he could reach it, which he can't. He has compression cuffs on his legs to help guard against blood clots in the legs, like I did. They're timed to come on for a few minutes and turn off for a few minutes. When they go off, he drops off to sleep; when they come on, he wakes up. He was supposed to see the physical therapist this afternoon. They never showed up. When we talked to him tonight before bedtime, he sounded exhausted and discouraged...no wonder! I fervently hope he can come home tomorrow!

As for me, I got a quiz finished and submitted this evening, pretty much the only useful thing I did all day.

No, you also passed along the welcome news to Sis and Dad that Priscilla ate her food. You *know* Dad would have worried about that.

Oh yes, Priscilla is very glad to have her daddy home. We all are, actually.

It is going to be pretty tough to keep him quiet for any length of time. For instance, at suppertime tonight, rather than asking one of us to go into the back parlor and fetch his cushion, he took his walker and hiked in there and all the way back. I mean, at the rate he walks at the moment, I could have done it faster and with less strain. But he didn't even say where he was going, just took off. I foresee trouble with him. /smile/

Meanwhile, I can't do anything right. The editor had to send back that quiz I submitted last night because of inadvertent capitalization of a couple answer choices in one question. Because she was unfamiliar with the story, she couldn't tell if there might be some significance to capitalizing those particular words and needed clarification. What a waste of her time. And I checked that darned thing I don't know how many times. It's a curse. I am constitutionally incapable of turning in a clean paper. It is _most_ frustrating!

Back when I was a volunteer for Project Gutenberg, my buddy and I discovered it is virtually impossible to totally check your own work. Most typos, etc., would get caught but there always seemed to be something which slipped through. Our eyes seemed to see what we thought it should be.

Here's the quiz:

Unless you're familiar with _The Dresden Files_ it's probably pretty tough.

The nurse came today and got Dad all set up with the nursing and PT schedules. We found him a cushion, so he's a lot more comfortable now. He has ditched the walker for his cane. Seems a bit premature to me, but all that matters is for him to be comfortable and safe. He's eating well and says he rests much better here than in the hospital. No surprise there. Tomorrow morning he goes for his post op visit with his surgeon. Since Sis is going with him this time, maybe we'll finally get some solid info.

Dad's medical appointment this morning was just to check if the catheter could come out. It could and did. In about ten days time, he has a phone consult with the surgeon to discuss the pathology report and what comes next. So, everything seems pretty much on course.
