Cat, that will happen all your life. You hear of something that reminds you of a loved one lost and you think "Wait until I tell them about this!" Then you remember they aren't around to tell.

But you know this. And you know the pain of remembering your mom will be less as time goes by. I can only hope for you the smiles of remembering her cme sooner and the tears lessen quickly.

Talk about unattractive characters! Charles Strickland is a brute! And yet, I'm enjoying _The Moon and Sixpence_. Maybe "enjoy" isn't the right word. I'm finding it an interesting and satisfying read, if not a fun one.

This afternoon I went out to have blood drawn. It's a beautiful day, sunny and mild. The breeze has a definite chill, but this is the middle of March. The grass has largely revived and some of the trees are softened by a mist of green. Spring is in the air.

It was sunny and warm here today, with a high of 70! I walked around most of the day in short sleeves, and my window is still open, though I will have to close it soon. I donno. 70 degrees seems like too much of a good thing in the middle of March.

Ooh, I hate it when any given Fantasy KO tournament includes a) more than one member of my team b) more than one of my friends and acquaintances c) not a single name I recognize. Of course with seven tournaments, there's often some combination of the three. This week there's only one Calculator in the whole bunch. But in one, I was forced to choose between Flopsy and our very own Dagny. Now, is that cruel, or what?

On another frustrating note: Today I happened to see a Biden T-shirt that I *really* wanted - a white, unisex T with a shamrock, below that in blue "Joe" and below that in small, red white and blue "Biden 2024". You can't get simpler than that. I got as far as selecting size before it occurred to me that it would give Dad apoplexy! I mean, we can really only push him so far. He doesn't wear a NAGA hat, which shows great self-restraint. The least I can do is refrain from wearing Biden stuff. /sigh/ But the sheer simplicity and understated quality of that T-shirt really appealed to me.

Now, here's something kind'a strange: Yesterday I was putzing around on Facebook for a few minutes and what should come up, out of the clear blue sky but an ad to download Berklee School of Music's free songwriting handbook. Now, how on earth did FB know that would be of tremendous interest to me? Anyhow, I zapped over to download the handbook and then, inevitably, I started perusing their catalog. It's to die for! I'd love to take every single course!! The first to catch my eye was "Music and Neuroscience" I mean, how utterly and completely cool is that? In the end, I reluctantly concluded that taking any courses would be impractical. But, I bought the books for the neuroscience one - would you believe they're on Audible? Then I went through and made a list of books used in the courses. That will make quite a tidy music-related library. It's not the same as taking the classes, but, realistically, I don't have the stamina to go back to school, even part time. The books will give me pleasure and instruction. So that time browsing the web site was certainly not wasted.

To clarify, I only looked at the course requirements for the B.A. in Songwriting. "Music and Neuroscience" is a possible elective in that program. They have a *lot* of undergrad and graduate programs!

This must be some kind of record. I just scored six (count 'em six!) for ten in one of Nightmare's Baseball quizzes. I always enjoy them, but usually get around one for ten. So I'm feeling rather pleased with myself.

Congratulations!

I would get ...
9 innings

3 bases plus home plate
There's a pitcher and a catcher and a batter. All batters must now must wear helmets.

I know there are positions called shortstop and centerfold but I have no idea what they do or where they are.

Yankee Stadium is one of the cleanest places I have ever seen. Oh yeah, I was even given a tour of the place before a game & watched the two teams warm up. Yes, I was shown where each position was on the field. But! But in my defense I was standing on the pitcher's mound with a few other people while the tour guide was pointing at this big field of grass saying "That's where center field is" while pointing in what was, to me, a vague direction. It was the same for those other positions that weren't on a base. The people with me were very excited and knew what he was talking about. I smiled and nodded. I was also getting paid for doing this so I didn't really care. Smile, nod, get driven home in a limo, pick up a paycheck.

I guess I should mention I have never watched a baseball game in my life.

Mira, you always give me a smile! I've caught a few minutes of a game here, a few minutes there on TV, but I'd be lucky to be able to find the pitcher's mound without guidance. /grin/ My interest is purely academic, from the notion that an American really ought to know *something* about baseball.

----

The weather is miserable here today; rainy, cold and raw with a forecast high of 41. Things could be worse though. Out in the Berkshires, they're experiencing wintry mix. Ah, springtime in New England!

We have snow on the ground - not much, but enough to count. In just a few weeks, relatively speaking, I'll be complaining about the heat but, I mean, really! Snow on April Fourth? /sigh/

Feeling somewhat frazzled. I *know* I replied to a certain e-mail, and yet the reply isn't in my sent folder...like, nowhere. I need that reply, as well as the original e-mail. Kind of climbing the walls... Oh, no! I just remembered, I forgot to take my anxiety medication this morning. Had no water when I first woke up and then, once I'd filled the water bottle, it completely slipped my mind to take the medicine. Rats! The afternoon is getting on. Maybe I'd better skip it for today. But that explains a lot. And here I thought that particular medication didn't do much of anything. Guess it really does.

Last night I got back to _Aces_, a novel about WWII flyers,a German as well as an American. In fact, they are distantly related. Good book. Certainly does not romanticize war. It gives a vivid portrait of Hitler's descent into madness and monsterhood. The German pilot speaks of Hitler initially being quite charismatic. Well, I suppose he must have been to brainwash an entire nation. By this point in 1944, he is unmistakably and frighteningly insane. The character says he won't leave Germany because he and the Luftwaffe as a whole has a duty and loyalty, no longer to the Führer but to protect his people as best they can. He's an arrogance guy, but then many pilots are. It's impossible for me to dislike him, though of course my sympathy is much more with the American pilots. As I say, it's a good book with an interesting cast of characters. Well written.

Finished _Aces_ last night. Highly recommended although, as noted upthread, this novel does not sugar coat the war; so, it is not for the faint of heart.

Here it is the middle of April, and I'm still wearing my flannel popover (link https://www.vermontcountrystore.com/portuguese-cotton-flannel-mock-neck-popover-nightgown/product/67559) - I have the pastel plaid and the floral print. Of course, the nights are pretty cold yet - the heat comes on most every night. The other thing is that I get cold easily; so, it's nice to have something up over my throat.

I don't like hot weather, but some warm weather would be nice right about now.

Well, don't that beat all! I don't often play the duel, finding it rather frustrating. Today, though, guess who won ten of fifteen duels? I would jump up and down with excitement, but I'm much too pooped after all that hard thinking!
