Since I haven't given a Dad update in a while:

Dad is generally doing pretty well. He's sleeping better, i.e. for longer periods, so he's resting a bit better. Also, he has taken to napping in the afternoon. He is in generally good spirits. His doctor advised him to drink Carnation Instant Breakfast (as opposed to Ensure or any of the other so-called energy drinks). It seems to be helping to some extent. The weight loss seems - Lord willing - to have halted, though he is not yet putting weight back on.

His Coumadin (Warfarin) level has not rebounded since surgery in June. It is supposed to be at a minimum of 2.0 but Dad's is stubbornly stuck at 1.9 - and that's with being back on Vitamin E and taking an additional dose of the medication four times a week. He goes in for his regular monthly check tomorrow. Everybody keep fingers crossed that the level has returned to 2.0 or better!

Dad update: They have figured out what's up with his Coumadin. Come to find out, the Carnation Instant Breakfast his GP recommended he drink regularly to build him up contains Vitamin K, which thickens the blood, countering the action of the Coumadin. Once the nurse figured that out, she was able to adjust the dosage of Coumadin to compensate. Now his levels are back to where she wants them. Phew!

As for me, I've taken to having a cup of tea at bedtime. Don't know what took me so long to think of it, but earlier this week it finally occurred to me that Valerian tea might be helpful vis a vis my sleep difficulties. Dad found an unopened box of Celestial Seasonings sleepytime tea - it's amazing what you find when you look in a cabinet - and I've been having a cup the past few nights. It does relax me, though it doesn't send me to sleep any faster or more soundly. Still, it's a good habit to get into as the autumn sets in.

I'll see you that and raise you this

This painting was mentioned in a book I recently read "Portrait of an Unknown Woman" by Daniel Silva. In fact, it figures in the climax of the book.

My second quiz for the September painting has just been submitted. Did I tell you guys? The first link https://www.funtrivia.com/quiz/literature/merrys-and-pippins-parts-in-the-war-of-the-ring-413625.html met all three requirements! When this latest one goes up, I'll earn my first frame.

The movie music quiz got sent back, and I'm waiting for direction from Agony. Still, there's plenty of time before the end of the month.

I just played The Daily Game and correctly spelled hemidemisemiquaver...for the third or fourth day in a row! Having to deal with spelling in the Daily Game is enough of a bother - fortunately, I usually play it untimed - but getting the same word day after day gets real old, real fast. Is there anyplace I can lodge a complaint? Is there even any point?

I dislike the spelling, as well. However, I don't think I've ever gotten the same word on successive days. At least it's etched in your mind, in case you ever need to use it in a quiz or note

I shall ignore that.(what's the emogie for laughing while blowing a raspberry?)

Ahem. Earlier this week I went for my one year checkup on the hip replacement. Everything looks good and they said to come back in a year.

Now, the real point is that rather than the wheelchair, I used my walking frame. While struggling along the sidewalk I kept thinking, _This was a lousy idea. This was a *lousy* idea!_ There was even more walking inside the building. But, once we got home and I could think about it, I'm really glad to have done it. First, it showed that I actually can walk. Secondarily, it was, as they say, a learning experience, showing that I need to build up stamina and work on lengthening my stride.

You know what though? I was not, as I rather expected, utterly exhausted upon coming home to the point of having to take a nap. I got right back to Quizzyland. So, I must have *some* stamina.

Got things sorted out with Agony, and my movie music quiz has been resubmitted. Next on the agenda: Finish "Heads Up" for one of Kyle's Lounge challenges. After that, I'll need to reassess priorities. One thing's for sure, I'm not lacking in things to keep me busy!

Dad saw the surgeon today

. Despite the favorable lab reports, he saw two red places inside the bladder that he would ordinarily say were cancer. He gave Dad a choice of having a biopsy now or coming back in three months. Dad chose to come back in three months.

The surgeon gave Dad a one month supply of samples of a medication that should reduce urine production and, thereby, help him sleep through the night. He is understandably eager to start that med.

Please continue your prayers, good vibes, etc.

All the best for your dad!

Congrats on your long trek to your doctor. Sounds like it energized you :-)

Played your quiz. Managed to ace it (which, despite it being rated 'Easy', was by no means a given, since I rarely watch movies, and hadn't seen about half of them).

Well done! As to that, I haven't seen most of them, but I'm familiar with the music.

Believe it or not, I've never seen "Rocky" or "Saturday Night Fever"! Reading about it now, I'm glad I didn't see "Saturday Night Fever" as a kid, I would have hated it except for the dance sequences.

It was hard, actually, since so many of the songs - "The Way We Were", say - had the same title as the movie. We were really scraping the bottom of the barrel by the end, and Agony kind of turned a blind eye to "Goodbye Girl".

Yes, it was the music that did it for me. I've never seen "Rocky". A couple of months ago, I noticed "Saturday Night Fever" was available on cable, for free, and I like Travolta, so I turned it on... lasted about 10 minutes. Movies are like books... better hook me at the beginning, because I'm not going to waste my time, hoping there are good parts, at some point, before I fall asleep.

Hah! I truly wondered if "The Goodbye Girl" was a trick. I did see that one, but it was long ago, when it first came out, and I couldn't remember any music.

Pretty sure David Gates' song plays over the closing credits. Haven't actually seen that one either, though I'd like to.

It occurs to me I haven't given a reading update in some time:
A couple weeks ago I finally finished _Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit_, which took longer than I would have expected for such a short book - only about five and a half hours. I have also read two novels by Paul Galico, _Too Many Ghosts_ and _Thomasina_, both of which were enjoyable. Still making my way through _Our Oriental Heritage_, a superb read.

I've been not around here for at least two weeks. I'm glad to here the good news about your dad and your increasing standards. Now go for an afternoon walk young lady!
