Hi Mira!

This is pretty amazing and potentially quite a helpful development:

It hasn't been a good week for reading, what with my staying up to all hours to finish my third time through the Morphing Scavenger, etc. In fact, all I've picked up are tried and true favorites to help me get to sleep, _Asimov's Guide to the Bible; Old and New Testaments_ and one of Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters books, _Steadfast_.

Now, don't get me wrong. _Asimov's Guide to the Bible_ is fascinating. I've read it attentively and used it as background and source material in a couple of quizzes. It's not a lightweight book, nor do I take it lightly. It is though, like _Steadfast_ and a handful of other books, familiar enough that I can enjoy listening to it at bedtime and can relax enough to drift to sleep. With a "new" book, I have to pay attention, which is not conducive to going to sleep. Hoping to get back to some serious reading next week.

Yes, with new books, one has to pay attention. I like mysteries, and, while I used to be able to read them as I was drifting off, and remember everything the next day, alas, that is no longer the case. Now that I'm older, if I start a new mystery at bedtime, I'll have to re-read the beginning again, the next day, so may as well leave such 'important' tomes for daytime reading, to begin with.

I tend to read Wodehouse as I'm drifting off... very conducive to pleasant (if a bit wacky) dreams.

Hi guys! Just breezing through. Working frantically for Quiwrimo. Would you believe, I've gotten three quizzes online thus far this month and submitted the fourth about five minutes ago. Right now, I'm going to go play The Monster Quiz, and put off until tomorrow the decision on which quiz project to tackle next.

November's painting is on my profile. Here's the quiz that earned it for me:

But, don't forget, he also narrated "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas".

Happy Thanksgiving, Cat.

I'm allergic to turkey (sooooo sad, `cuz I love it), and I don't like sweet potatoes or cranberry sauce.

However, give me stuffing, mashed potatoes, Pillsbury rolls, and pumpkin pie, and I am full of thanks (and full of carbs).

Sounds good, Postie. How about butternut squash instead of sweet potato? Though I like turkey well enough, really stuffing, mashed potato, squash, gravy, cranberry sauce or relish and rolls or biscuits does just fine.

I've never heard of being allergic to turkey. that must be difficult. Can you eat other poultry?

Oh dear, I find myself confused and stressed out. And, here I've been going great guns with Quiwrimo - five quizzes up, two in the cue, two actively being worked on and one that I can renovate easily, providing the powers that be let me do so despite my two outstanding adoptions.

But I've run into a brain block. I look at "I Will Dry Them All: A History of Drying" and "A Tale of a Whale: The Life Cycle of a Blue Whale" and my mind freezes and goes completely blank. I want to finish them. I need to finish them. My mind is just refusing to focus or think or anything. And I took a day off, was it Friday? And I do other things, like read books and magazines. So, it's not like I don't give the ol' brain a rest. It's just going on strike.

The squash would be better than the sweet potato, and would be a nice counter to the heaviness of the starchy foods.

Turkey... well, when I was a child it didn't give me problems. As an adult, I began to realize I felt terrible the day after Thanksgiving, and other holidays when turkey was served (Chanukah and Passover). It may not be an actual allergy. It may be that I'm super sensitive to tryptophan. I don't have a problem with chicken, duck, or game hens. It's unfortunate, but there are serious allergies out there, like peanuts, which can be difficult to avoid. I can't complain :-)

Such a sweet article about the adopted kitties.

Could you maybe substitute rock Cornish game hen? That's pretty much a bird for one IIRC. Then you could have that and all the trimmings while everybody else had turkey? Seems a pity for your holidays to be ruined because you can't eat the festive bird.

That's very princess-like hee-hee... "Get your hands off my bird! It's mine! All mine!"

I do like the Cornish game hens, but, no. It's better to just not have the turkey. There's always plenty to eat without it, and I truly don't mind the smell, or seeing other people eat it. And, my son's a vegetarian, so he's not eating any birds, at all. It's all about family... not what we're eating.
