Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Infrared _______ (album)

Answer: Roses

"Infrared Roses" is a 1991 experimental compilation that pulls together live improvisations from Grateful Dead and shapes them into standalone "sound collage" pieces instead of traditional songs. It's built from extended jams, effects-heavy passages, and ambient fragments that were originally performed in concert, then edited into a more abstract listening experience.

It sounds more like some of the NASA space recordings than the Dead at times.
2. Red _____ (book)

Answer: Serge

"Red Serge" is a crime mystery about a case tied to the famous red uniform worn by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The story follows an investigation where what looks like a respected, orderly world starts to fall apart as hidden corruption and crime come to light.

As the main characters dig deeper, they find that people they thought they could trust are involved, and the case becomes more dangerous and complicated than it first seemed. As a proud Canadian, I had to include this book.
3. Orange _______ (TV show)

Answer: is the New Black

"Orange is the New Black" is about a woman named Piper Chapman who gets sent to a women's prison after a past crime catches up with her. Inside, she has to deal with prison life, different groups of inmates, and complicated relationships, including people from her past.

The show jumps between serious drama, dark humor, and stories about the other prisoners so it's not just about one person. A great watch - funny, heartbreaking, and rough at times.
4. Yellow _______ (movie)

Answer: Submarine

"Yellow Submarine" is a trippy animated adventure by The Beatles, where the band travels in a colorful submarine to save a peaceful place called Pepperland from a group called the Blue Meanies. The story is more about wild visuals, music, and imagination than serious plot, with each scene feeling like a different psychedelic world. Along the way, the Beatles use their songs and teamwork to bring color and happiness back.

This always hurts my head to watch, but fun anyways.
5. The Green _______ (radio show)

Answer: Hornet

"The Green Hornet" was a 1930s-1940s radio action series about Britt Reid, a wealthy newspaper publisher who secretly becomes the masked crime fighter known as the Green Hornet. He and his partner Kato pose as criminals so they can infiltrate gangs and take down bigger criminals from the inside, which makes everyone, including the police, think they're bad guys too.

It is in the same vein as Boston Blackie, the Shadow, and even the Saint.
6. Blue _______ (movie)

Answer: Velvet

"Blue Velvet" is a mystery-thriller about a college student named Jeffrey who finds a human ear in a field and starts investigating what's going on in his quiet suburban town. As he digs deeper, he gets pulled into a dark world involving crime, secrets, and a dangerous man named Frank, while also getting involved with a mysterious woman named Dorothy...yeah, but it's a Lynch film, so...don't worry too much about plot.
7. Indigo ______ (band)

Answer: Girls

Indigo Girls are a folk-rock duo made up of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, and they've long been known not just for their harmonies, but also for being openly lesbian artists in a mainstream music space that wasn't always welcoming. Their work often blends personal identity with activism, especially around LGBTQ+ rights, environmental issues, and Native American rights. Songs like "Closer to Fine" became anthems for searching and self-understanding, while "Ghost" and "Land of Canaan" show their more reflective side. "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" directly engages with Indigenous history and injustice.

They are fairly mainstream now, but it is hard to describe how radical they were being out at a time when even Melissa Etheridge(!?!) was forced to make a video ("Come to my Window") where she looked like she was interested in men.
8. Violet ______ (Light Novel)

Answer: Evergarden

"Violet Evergarden" is about a former child soldier named Violet who struggles to understand emotions after the war ends. She starts working as an "Auto Memory Doll," a writer who helps people put their feelings into letters, even though she barely understands feelings herself at first.

In working with different clients and guiding them through their stories, her own memories surface and she slowly begins to figure out love, loss, and what it means to be human.
9. Ultra Violet ______ (song)

Answer: (Light My Way)

"Ultra Violet (Light My Way)" is a song by U2 from their 1991 album, "Achtung Baby" that is emotional and dramatic. It uses "ultraviolet light" as a way of saying someone is helping guide you through a dark or confusing time in life. The music feels big and powerful, and the lyrics are about needing support when things feel uncertain. Overall, it's a song about looking for light or hope when you're struggling, but U2 loves adding layers and so religion, invisible forces, and growth are also part of the song.
10. Alexander's ______ (song)

Answer: Ragtime Band

"Alexander's Ragtime Band" is a classic early pop song written by Irving Berlin that became hugely popular in the early 1900s. It's about a lively band led by "Alexander" that plays upbeat ragtime music and gets everyone excited to dance. The song helped bring ragtime into mainstream American music and was one of the first big hits of the Tin Pan Alley era.

It's basically a catchy, old-school celebration of music that makes you want to move. It has been covered again and again, notably by Ella Fitzgerald and was even made into a movie. Ohhhh....and if you are wondering what the heck this is doing in a rainbow theme...well....Alexander's band is the dark area you sometimes see between the two arcs of a double rainbow.

In a normal rainbow, light is reflected once inside raindrops, but in a double rainbow it reflects twice, creating a second, fainter arc above the first.

The space between them looks darker because fewer light rays are being scattered back to your eyes in that angle range. So that "gap" isn't a separate band of color, it's just a region where the scattering gives you less rainbow, making it look basically black.
