Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Take the number of "Brides" for the same number of "Brothers" (only use the number once). Multiply that by the number of countries that border the United States. The answer is:

Answer: 14

The 1954 movie musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", which featured Howard Keel and Jane Powell gives us the first number, 7. And only Mexico and Canada border the United States, so our final equation is 2 * 7 = 14.
2. Start with the number of "Days" (or "Nights") Josh Hartnett had to abstain in the 2002 movie. Divide that number by a 2011 J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration that the title finds "Super". What is the final answer?

Answer: 5

Josh Hartnett forced himself to abstain from intimate situations during Lent in the 2002 movie "40 Days and 40 Nights". And J.J. Abrams worked his magic with the incomparable Spielberg in creating the well-received "Super 8". Thus our question results in: 40 / 8 = 5.
3. Let's take the number of "Feet" that Peter Krause and Michael C. Hall found themselves "Under" on HBO back in the 2000s. Add to it the number that Dick Van Patten felt was "Enough" in the 1970s. Your sum for this one is:

Answer: 14

"Six Feet Under" was a big hit for HBO, their follow-up series to the success of "The Sopranos". And "Eight Is Enough" was the story of Dick Van Patten and his TV family and the hijinks that ensue from such a large brood. So our sum is derived from the problem: 6 + 8 = 14.
4. A sports-themed math problem now: Take the official number (not the four-digit year or shortened nickname number) associated with the name of Philadelphia's pro Basketball team. Subtract from that the official number (again, not the four-digit year nor the shortened nickname number) associated with San Francisco's professional Football team. What is the difference obtained from this math question?

Answer: 27

The Philadelphia 76ers National Basketball Association franchise has been a fixture in Philly since 1963. And the 49ers of San Francisco have been a storied National Football League franchise since 1950. With 76 and 49 the numbers represented, our problem results in 76 - 49 = 27.

While they are often colloquially referred to as the Sixers and the Niners respectively, their official titles are represented by two digits, not one.
5. Start with the number of Von Trapp children in the 1965 movie "The Sound of Music". Take that number and multiply it by the number associated with the "Uncola". Your final result is:

Answer: 49

Both numbers used in this problem are seven. There were seven children (Liesl, Friedrich, Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta and Gretl) from the 1965 movie musical "The Sound of Music". And 7up used the slogan "The Uncola" back in the late 1970s. Some old posters in restaurants and gas stations still feature the word. So our result is 7 * 7 = 49.
6. Start with Pierce, Honeycutt and O'Reilly's Mobile Surgical Army Hospital number from "M*A*S*H". Divide that by Sophia Loren and Kate Hudson's poorly attended 2009 movie musical title. What is the final quotient for this division problem?

Answer: 453

"M*A*S*H" showed the antics of the 4077th for over a decade on the movie and television screen. And "9" featured a blockbuster female cast, but didn't get blockbuster numbers in 2009. Therefore our answer is 4077 / 9 = 453.
7. Start with the number of Molly Ringwald's "Candles". Divide that number by the number of judges/mentors that appeared on NBC's debut season of the reality competition show "The Voice". What is the final result?

Answer: 4

"Sixteen Candles" was the movie that introduced us to Molly Ringwald back in 1984. And the successful singing competition show "The Voice" featured four celebrity mentors (Cee-lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton). Our final answer comes from the problem 16 / 4, and our answer therefore is 4.
8. Let's take the number of "Heads" in Joe Pesci's "Duffel Bag", and multiply it by the number of "Towers" in JRR Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. What is our final answer for this math question?

Answer: 16

The highly panned 1997 movie "8 Heads in a Duffel Bag" starred Joe Pesci. It sports one of the worst ratings according to RottenTomatoes.com with an approval rating at only 11%. And the second book in the "Rings" trilogy is subtitled "The Two Towers". This gives the equation 8 * 2 = 16.
9. Let's begin with the numerical title of the game show featured in prominence in the movie "Quiz Show". Then add to that the number of students that came to Saturday detention in the 1985 movie "The Breakfast Club". What is the sum of these two numbers?

Answer: 26

"21" was the game show cancelled in shame in the 1950s and and whose story is retold in the 1994 movie "Quiz Show", starring Ralph Fiennes and John Turturro. And the 1985 teen angst movie "The Breakfast Club" had five students (Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson & Anthony Michael Hall) come to spend their Saturday in the Shermer High School library. So our sum is 21 + 5 = 26.
10. Looking at two references from the late 2000s...start with the number that "1" was "vs." on Bob Saget's prime time game show. Subtract from that the number of Katherine Heigl's "Dresses". What is the final difference from this subtraction question?

Answer: 73

"1 vs. 100" was a game show that debuted on NBC in 2006. It was hosted by Bob Saget, and featured a 100-member panel of the general public that would compete answering trivia questions against one person. And in 2008, Katherine Heigl displayed her bridesmaid's dresses proudly in the closet in the romantic comedy "27 Dresses". So the final answer is 100 - 27 = 73.
