Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How much time has passed between Act III and Act IV?

Answer: 17 months

There was 17 months between Act III and Act IV. This would mean Act IV took place in approximately August 43 B.C.
2. Who was not part of the Second Triumvirate?

Answer: Brutus

The Second Triumvirate, which began after the death of Julius Caesar, consisted of Octavius, Mark Antony, and Lepidus. Brutus was one of the conspirators who killed Caesar and would later, along with Cassius, fight a war against Octavius and Mark Antony.
3. How did Cicero the orator die?

Answer: Antony and Octavius ordered his death

Octavius and Antony composed a list of 70 senators that would die, and Cicero's name was among them. After the death of Julius Caesar, Cicero began speaking out against Mark Antony, so Antony decided to have Cicero and his supporters killed. Cicero was 63 years old when he died.
4. Cassius referred to himself as an abler soldier.

Answer: True

Cassius said this about himself, and this enraged Brutus, who thought Cassius meant that he was a better soldier than Brutus. Because of this, Brutus and Cassius started arguing bitterly. Brutus was eventually calmed down when Cassius offered to kill himself.
5. Why did Cassius believe Antony's and Octavius's army should march to Cassius and Brutus's location?

Answer: Antony and Octavius would be too exhausted from marching to fight.

Cassius believed that if Antony's and Octavius's armies do the marching, then they would be too exhausted from marching to fight. The soldiers in Cassius's and Brutus's armies would be well-prepared to fight the exhausted armies. Brutus was against them and believed that his and Cassius's armies do the marching. Brutus eventually got his way.
6. Who visited Brutus on his way to Philippi at night?

Answer: Caesar's ghost

The ghost of Julius Caesar visited Brutus and told Brutus "Thou shall see me at Philippi". This statement foreshadowed Brutus's death during the Battle of Philippi.
7. Pindarus was Cassius's servant.

Answer: True

Pindarus was Cassius's servant since Cassius had captured him in a previous battle. Pindarus was sent to watch Titinius meet some riders. However, Pindarus mistook it for Titinius getting captured and rushed back to tell Cassius.
8. Who killed Brutus?

Answer: Strato

Brutus wished to die but did not want to kill himself. He asked Clitus, Dardanius, and Volumnius to kill him but they all refused. Finally, Brutus asked Strato to kill him, which he (Strato) agreed to.
9. Who did not die in the last two acts?

Answer: Lucius Pella

Lucius Pella, not to be confused with Brutus's servant who was also called Lucius, did not die.
Cassius was stabbed by Pindarus on Cassius's order. Cassius believed that Brutus's army had been defeated. Afterwards, Pindarus proceeded to kill himself. Portia had also died. According to Cassius, she "swallowed fire".
10. How many battles at Philippi were there?

Answer: 2

There were two battles at Philippi, both of which took place in 42B.C. Brutus's and Octavius's army fought and Brutus won. Cassius's and Antony's army fought and Antony won, mainly because Cassius was not ready. The second battle, which took place a few weeks later, resulted in Brutus's defeat, which resulted in him wanting to die.
