Singers FC were founded in 1883 as the works team of the Singer Cycle Company, with the company's founder, George Singer, being the club's first president. They turned professional in 1892, and changed their name to Coventry City in 1898.

Answer: Highfield Road

After playing at Binley Road and then Stoke Road, Coventry City moved into Highfield Road in 1899. The record attendance at the stadium was 51,455 for a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1967. In 1981, Highfield Road became the first all-seater ground in England, although standing areas were later reintroduced. The last game at the stadium was against Derby County in 2005.

Coventry City were members of the Birmingham & District League prior to joining the Southern League in 1908. Although never particularly successful in that league, their F.A. Cup form was better, including a quarter finals appearance in 1910. In 1919, they were elected into the second division of the Football League for the 1919-20 season, the first season of league football after the First World War.

Coventry City wore various colours prior to 1962, with blue and white stripes being particularly popular. Sky blue shirts and shirts were adopted for season 1962-63 and have remained ever since, with sky blue and white vertical stripes occasionally making an appearance.

Jimmy Hill became famous as a TV pundit in the latter years of the 20th century, but he is an icon in Coventry. He became manager of Coventry City in 1961 and led them to the Third Division title in 1964 and the second tier title three years later. He moved into broadcasting prior to their First Division debut, but would later return to the club as managing director and then chairman.

Coventry City's crest is based on the official emblem of the city itself. In the centre is a sky blue and white football, on top of which stands an elephant with a castle on its back - this represents strength and power. Other creatures on the badge are a phoenix, representing the city's rise from the flames of World War 2, and an eagle, representing the Earl of Mercia, husband of Lady Godiva who famously rode naked on horseback through the city.

Coventry City's F.A. Cup run of 1986-87 saw them defeat Bolton Wanderers, Manchester United, Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday before Leeds United were overcome in the semi-final at Hillsborough. The final took place at Wembley on 16th May, 1987, and Tottenham got off to a flyer with a Clive Allen goal in just two minutes. Coventry equalized through Dave Bennett just seven minutes later, before Gary Mabbutt restored Tottenham's lead just before half-time. Keith Houchen levelled matters again in 63 minutes, and the score was 2-2 at the end of regulation. Six minutes into extra time, a Lloyd McGrath cross was deflected into his own net by Mabbutt, who thus became the first player to score at both ends in an F.A. Cup final. Coventry held on to win 3-2 and take the famous trophy back to the West Midlands.

Coventry City played Queens Park Rangers in August, 2005, in the first official game at the new ground, and things seemed to go alright for a while. A rent dispute with the stadium owners saw the club play home games at Sixfields Stadium, Northampton, in season 2023-14.

They returned to the city the following season, but another dispute saw them playing at St Andrews, Birmingham, between 2019 and 2021. A new lease was finally signed for City to return to the now-renamed Coventry Building Society Arena for season 2021-22.

Magnus Hedman was a goalkeeper who joined Coventry City from AIK Stockholm in 1997. He made 134 league appearances for the club before joining Celtic in 2002. He made his international debut for Sweden in 1997, and won a total of 58 caps for his country, 44 of which coming during his spell at Coventry.

Answer: Frank Lampard

Coventry City fans experienced the highs and lows of supporting a football club during the early 21st century, but their loyalty was rewarded in season 2025-26 when they dominated the Championship (second tier) and returned to the top tier of English football for the first time since 2001. Former Chelsea legend Frank Lampard had joined the club as manager in November, 2024, and, after losing in the play-offs in 2024-25, led the club back to the promised land in 2026.
