Marion Jones was born on October 12, 1975, in Los Angeles, California USA. Before the games started, Marion aimed to win five gold but only managed 3 gold and 2 bronze. That wasn't the end of the story, though. She was disqualified and stripped of all her medals in 2007 after she admitted she'd used performance-enhancing drugs. Marion wasn't the only professional athlete who used performance-enhancing drugs, as 20 other athletes were involved in what was known as the "BALCO" scandal.
4. Who won the Olympic men's 1500m title at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney?

Answer: Noah Ngeny

Noah Ngeny from Kenya achieved this feat with a time of 3:32.07, establishing a new Olympic record at that time. Ngeny surpised everyone as the race favourite was long time undefeated world record holder El Guerroujh.

Answer: World Championships

Denise Lewis was born on 27 August 1972, in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England. 6. Where were the 2001 World Championships held (country or city or both)?

Answer: Edmonton Canada

The World Championship of 2001 took place in Edmonton, Alberta, from August 3 to August 12. This event marked the 8th World Championships in Athletics, organised by the International Association of Athletic Federations. The 7th edition was held in Seville, Spain, and the 9th in Paris, France.

At the end of the games Russia won a total of 18 medals, which were five gold, seven silver and six bronze. The championship did not break any world records; however, it did set eight new championship records.
7. How many hurdles are there in the men's 110m hurdles?

Answer: 10

The ten hurdles, each measuring 106.7 centimetres (42 inches) in height, are uniformly distributed along a straight course that spans 110 metres. In the 110 m hurdles event, the initial hurdle is positioned after a run-up of 13.72 metres (45 feet) from the starting line. The subsequent nine hurdles are arranged at intervals of 9.14m (30ft) apart, and the final stretch from the last hurdle to the finish line measures 14.02m (46ft) in length.

In 1981, U.S. athlete Renaldo Nehemiah became the first person to break the 13-second barrier, finishing the race in 12.93 seconds. On September 7, 2012, the U.S. hurdler Aries Merritt set the world record in a time of 12.80 seconds when he took part in the final at the Diamond League meet (Memorial Van Damme) in Brussels, Belgium.
8. Women's pole vaulter Stacy Dragila was born in what country?

Answer: USA

Stacy Dragila was born on March 25, 1971, in Auburn, California USA. At the World Indoor Championships in 1997, she won the gold medal. At the 1999 World Championships in Seville, she won the gold medal and repeated her success at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton.

When the 2000 Olympic Games were held in Sydney, Stacy came away with the gold medal by vaulting 4.60m (15 ft 1 in); at this time, it was an Olympic Games world record. Stacy has vaulted 4.83m (15 ft 10 in) in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, which would have been an outdoor new world record. However, it was not acknowledged due to a rule change implemented by the sport's governing body in March, which merged the indoor and outdoor records.
9. What distance did Jonathan Edwards clear to set a world record in the triple jump, in 1995?

Answer: 18m 29cm (60 ft 1/4 in)

He broke the world record in the 1995 world championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. The distance was 18 m 29 cm (60 ft 1/4 in). Jonathan was a rapid runner; he could sprint the 100m in 10.48 seconds. 10. 1904 to 1996 - The summer Olympic Games were held in three different cities in the USA: Los Angeles and Atlanta are two of them. What is the other?

Answer: St Louis

The Summer Olympic Games took place in St Louis, Missouri, in 1904. Los Angeles, California, hosted the games in 1932 and again in 1984. The 1996 games were held in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Olympic Games in St Louis commenced on July 1, 1904, and concluded on November 23, 1904. This event was conducted at Washington University in St Louis's Francis Olympic Field. 13 countries took part in the games, which were contested by 642 men and 6 women. These games were the first time that gold, silver and bronze were awarded to the top three athletes (previously silver to the winner and bronze to runner-up). Due to the Russo-Japanese War, many of the world's top athletes never took part in the games, so the majority of the competitors were either American or Canadian. At the end of the games, the USA won 234 out of the 280 medals available.
