Thorfinn is the oldest ghost at Woodstone Manor, having died long before the mansion was built. Thorfinn and the other Vikings landed on the Hudson Valley on an exploring expedition. Thor was left behind after his shipmates miscounted when returning to the ship. He was subsequently struck by lightning while wearing his metal helmet during a storm. Because of his manner of death, Thor's ghost power is the ability to affect electricity in the world of the living.
After Sam and Jay inherited Woodstone Manor, Thor's bones were discovered on the property. He was given the Viking funeral he never received, in hopes that he would move on in the afterlife, but alas, it was not to be. It had a positive for Thor, however, as Flower professed her love for him.
2. Isaac Higgintoot
Answer: Dysentery
Isaac Higgintoot was a soldier serving on the American side of the Revolutionary War. He successfully negotiated the surrender of Fort Ticonderoga and two weeks later died of dysentery. Because of his manner of death, when a living person walks through him, it smells like someone passed gas.
Sam helped Isaac tell his story by writing about Isaac's life during the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, because Isaac was not well known during his time, there were not a lot of historical references to use. They were able, however, to write a fictional novel loosely based on Isaac's life.
3. Pete Martino
Answer: Arrow in the Neck
Pete Martino was a scout troop leader who died at Woodstone after one of the girls in his troop accidentally shot him in the neck with an arrow. Pete was teaching archery to his students, but was distracted by a fight he had with his wife before he left. His distraction led him to pass out bows and arrows before giving the safety instructions. Before he could begin his instructions, one of his students shot an arrow, accidentally running Pete through the neck.
Pete was reunited with his wife, Carol, after Sam and Jay purchased Woodstone Manor. Unfortunately, it also led to him learning that she had an affair with his best friend while they were still married. Carol became a ghost on the property afterward, and the two eventually patched things up.
4. Trevor Lefkowitz
Answer: Drug overdose
Trevor Lefkowitz was a Wall Street stock trader at the turn of the millennium. He and his bros went to Woodstone to celebrate a promotion for the newest member of their team. Each one took an unknown drug from the secret drug drawer in the mansion. Trevor's combination proved fatal, and he passed on the property.
After Sam and Jay purchase the mansion, Trevor's body was found in the lake, dumped there by his stock bros after his death.
5. Hetty Woodstone
Answer: Hanged
Henrietta 'Hetty' Woodstone is the lady of the manor and a distant relative of Sam's. She and her husband Elias were robber barons, developing their wealth by exploiting their employees. After Elias disappeared, Hetty was left to run the mansion alone. Unfortunately for Hetty, the authorities began taking their dealings as evidence of crime. As they were closing in on the mansion, Hetty felt there was no way out, so, to protect her son from any future dealings with the police, she hanged herself with the telephone cord.
Hetty kept the manner of her death secret from the other ghosts until after Sam and Jay moved into the mansion. While the livings were both out of town, Flower, who had disappeared several days before, was discovered trapped in a well. Mark, the contractor for Sam and Jay, was about to fill in the well with cement, trapping Flower underground. Hetty revealed her secret, pulling the cord, still wrapped around her neck, off herself and dropping it to Flower, and the ghosts pulled her out in time.
6. Elias Woodstone
Answer: Suffocated
Elias Woodstone, the lord of Woodstone Manor, was married to Hetty and amassed his wealth through various criminal dealings. He was also quite the philanderer, stepping out on Hetty every chance he got. In fact, when he disappeared, leaving Hetty to her fate, she believed he had run off with one of his many dalliances. However, it was revealed that he had been locked in a secret vault in the mansion, and had slowly suffocated.
Elias was eventually discovered when the vault was found and opened. His ghost power was making living beings aroused after walking through them. His interference ruined a planned wedding at the mansion. Hetty stood up to him and encouraged him to change in the afterlife. After telling her he would never change, a portal to the underworld opened up and swallowed Elias.
7. Susan 'Flower' Montero
Answer: Bear attack
Susan Montero was a member of a cult and a commune during her life as a hippie. Her cult name, Flower, is her name amongst the ghosts as well. Flower and a good friend of hers were on the Woodstone property, high on drugs. Flower attempted to hug a bear they had come upon while hiking, and, predictably, Flower met a grisly end.
Since she died high, Flower remains a little on the high side, often forgetting things that have happened in the mansion. She and Thor struck up a romance with each other, Flower dealing with some commitment issues along the way. She was believed to have moved on in the afterlife after she disappeared for a while, but she was found in an empty well and rescued, with Hetty's help, by her friends.
8. Nigel Chessum
Answer: Shot
Nigel Chessum was a member of the British army during the Revolutionary War. He and Isaac Higgintoot, on opposite sides of the war, were both on the land that became Woodstone Manor at the same time. Isaac, while spying on Nigel with his sniper scope, sneezed and accidentally shot Nigel. Shortly after, Isaac became ill with dysentery and died as well.
Nigel and Isaac were able to move past Isaac's accidental murder of Nigel and became friends. Their friendship turned romantic for a while, and the two planned to marry. Unfortunately for Nigel, Isaac got cold feet. Nigel lives in a shed on the property with two other British soldiers who were a part of Nigel's troop.
9. Nancy
Answer: Cholera
Nancy is a ghost of Woodstone Manor who died of cholera, along with a large group of people. The cholera victims now live in the basement of the mansion. They spend their days listening to the water heater and occasionally hosting a fight club. Isaac joined the basement ghosts for a while to earn their trust and their vote for ghost representative.
10. Alberta Haynes
Answer: Poisoned
Alberta Haynes was a Harlem jazz singer in the 1920's, after leaving her old life as a ventriloquist behind. As a ventriloquist, Alberta went by her given name, Esther Greene, but no one gave her a shot as Esther the ventriloquist. She quit ventriloquism altogether, took on the name Alberta Haynes, and began her singing career on her own.
Eventually, Alberta became a famous name, running in some big-name circles. She was poisoned by Hetty's son, who was romantically involved with Alberta's love interest as well. He wanted Alberta out of the way, so he put poison in a bottle of alcohol and left it at Alberta's room door in the mansion. Since she was a singer, Alberta's ghost power is being heard by the living when she hums.
