Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After roaming the dirt for centuries, we learn in episode 1 ('Patience') that a Puritan ghost named Patience has been living in a cave under which Woodstone Estate feature?

Answer: Fountain

After kidnapping Isaac at the end of season 3 and then Sasappis during this episode, Patience brings them both to a cave in the dirt. There is a steady water drip though and when Jay says that a leak in the fountain has caused a higher-than-usual water bill, the duo deduce the cave's location. Alberta's response to this news is to be "creeped out" that Patience has been living less than fifty feet away for more than a hundred years.
2. In episode 2 ('Sam's Dad'), Trevor says that the plot from which 1987 comedy film would help Isaac and Thor/Flower solve their respective problems?

Answer: Throw Momma from the Train

Thor and Flower haven't told Nancy that they want to become an exclusive couple and Isaac wants Nigel to move out of the mansion but both are feeling uncomfortable about telling the recipient to their face. Trevor therefore suggests they solve each others' problems, using this film as a reference. As with all great comedies, despite best intentions, all does not go according to plan...
3. In episode 3 ('Halloween 4: The Witch'), the ghosts put Sam on trial for being a witch. Do they find her guilty of witchcraft?

Answer: Guilty

Since Sam can speak to ghosts, turn bread into toast, and predict the weather (using an app on her phone), Patience is convinced that Sam is a witch and wants to put her on trial. The other ghosts think it would be a fun way to pass the time so they agree to participate. Collectively, they vote 5-2 that Sam is guilty of witchcraft with only Pete and Alberta voting 'not guilty'.
4. Hetty and Sasappis start a rumour about Pete in episode 4 ('The Work Retreat') that was impossible for the rest of the housebound ghosts to disprove without Sam's help. What was the rumor?

Answer: His girlfriend doesn't exist

Because they were bored and Pete had been frequently boasting about his ability to leave the property, Hetty and Sasappis tell Thorfinn that Pete's Caribbean girlfriend Donna doesn't exist. Since Thorfinn is notoriously bad at keeping secrets, this rumour quickly spreads and before long, all of the Woodstone ghosts (plus Bjorn from next door) have heard the rumour.

By the end of the episode, Sam is able to prove to everyone that Donna exists because she found some articles about her online that reveal that she had a sordid past.
5. 'A Star is Dead' (episode 5) sees Sam auditioning for the lead role in which Cole Porter play?

Answer: Anything Goes

The Hudson Valley Players hire the Woodstone Estate ballroom for their staging of "Anything Goes" but quickly receive bad news: their lead performer has to pull out due to work conflicts! Sam had auditioned for the lead role in "Anything Goes" while at high school but ended up working behind-the-scenes due to internal politics - or so she claims.

When the opportunity arises to audition for that role again, Alberta encourages Sam to put her name forward and live out her dream.
6. As revealed by entries in his diary in episode 6 ('The Primary Source'), Isaac didn't think which lunchbox staple would ever catch on in the United States?

Answer: Sandwich

Sam and Jay dig up Isaac's diary in the hopes that it will give them a primary source for the book Sam wrote about Isaac's life. Upon reading it, however, Jay exclaims that the diary contains nothing but "sandwich talk and mutton pie recipes" - not at all useful for validating a non-fiction book about the life of a soldier in the American Revolutionary War! If they were looking to validate whether George Washington enjoyed sandwiches, on the other hand, they would have been in luck.
7. In episode 7 ('Sad Farnsby'), a book called 'The Unwatered _________' causes a rift between Woodstone's neighbours, Henry and Margaret Farnsby. What flower, associated with November, is missing from the book's title?

Answer: Chrysanthemum

When trying to find common ground with Margaret Farnsby, Sam mentions that she's recently read "The Unwatered Chrysanthemum" and that she thought that the metaphor of a dying chrysanthemum was a powerful metaphor for a wife who's been neglected by her husband.

This surprises Margaret, who, to this point, had thought the book was just about gardening. After considering Sam's interpretation, she decides that her husband has recently been a neglectful gardener, failing to 'water' her sufficiently.
8. Sam (while being possessed by Nancy) bonds with Jay's mother over what hot beverage during episode 8 ('A Very Arondekar Christmas: Part 1')?

Answer: Chai

At the beginning of this episode, we learn that Sam is desperately trying to impress Jay's mum, Champa, who will spend Christmas at Woodstone this year. Due to an incident with the water heater though, basement ghost Nancy possesses Sam right before Jay's parents arrive.

Jay asks his mother to make an effort to get to know Sam, so Champa makes them some chai to drink while they sit and chat. Much to Alberta, Hetty, and Isaac's astonishment, Champa prefers Nancy's carefree and relaxed nature to the more uptight, try-hard one she usually experiences in her encounters with Sam.
9. For part of episode 9 ('A Very Arondekar Christmas: Part 2'), Jay's body is left without a host, causing it to become limp and incoherent. Sam and the other ghosts associate it with which undead creature?

Answer: Zombie

Coming into this episode, Jay's soul (for want of a better phrase) has been ejected from his body, leaving Pete as its sole occupant. Upon embracing his daughter, Pete is also ejected from Jay's body, leaving it without a host. Due to the incoherent sounds it makes and limited cognition, this host-less shell is referred to as "Zombie Jay" until later in the episode when Jay's soul is reunited with his body.
10. Despite not looking anything alike, what's the name of Pete's all-ghost improv troupe that helps Sam explain to Mark why she tricked him in episode 10 ('The Not-So-Silent Partner')?

Answer: Dead Ringers

When Mark insists on meeting Sam and Jay's mysterious investor (Isaac), they decide to hire conwoman Kelsey to play the part. After she pulls a further financial con on Mark, Sam has to come clean, and when trying to think of a reason as to why she hired Kelsey, Pete says that it's time for the 'Dead Ringers' team to step up. Alberta, Isaac, Thorfinn, Flower, and Pete then help Sam to concoct a believable tale, and in the process, Isaac also comes to an important realisation.
