Ghosts on the U.S. TV show "Ghosts" (Part 1) Quiz

It's probably the funniest sitcom you'll find on network TV, "Ghosts" is a CBS sitcom adapted from a British show of the same name. Like "The Office" another American version of a great TV show, "Ghosts" is just as good if not better than its source.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Here are the main ghosts that are regular cast characters on the CBS TV show "Ghosts":

Henrietta "Hetty" Woodstone, played by Rebecca Wisocky, is the original lady of the manor, a distant ancestor of Samantha "Sam" Arondekar, who inherited the Woodstone Manor. She was born in 1850 into a wealthy family and was married to her second cousin in a business arrangement that was so deeply unhappy she strangled herself to death with a telephone cord in 1895. Her ghostly power is that on St. Patrick's Day she can be seen by the living.

Isaac Higgintoot, portrayed by actor Brandon Scott Jones, is the ghost of a closeted gay American Continental Army captain who served in the American Revolutionary War. Other occupations held by Higgintoot included an attorney, barber, and squirrel taxidermist. A running gag revolves around his bitter rivalry with Alexander Hamilton; Higgintoot's frustration is fueled by the constant reminders of Hamilton's historical fame, while Isaac's role in history is largely forgotten. The character died in 1777 of dysentery, and his ghostly power is the emission of a flatulent smell when living people walk through him.

Pete Martino (Richie Moriarty) is maybe the most upbeat of the main ghosts in the cast, a friendly travel agent who was also a Pinecone Trooper scoutmaster who died in 1985 after being shot in the neck accidentally with an arrow by one of his scouts. He likes to be positive toward the other ghosts, and his interests include sports, as well as some other more "nerdy" interests, such as 1980s pop culture and Dungeons & Dragons. His ghost power is a much envied one; he can travel beyond the boundaries of the Woodstone property, which the other ghosts are unable to do. However, if he stays away from Woodstone for too long, his energy weakens and he risks disappearing, so he has to return to the mansion to recharge.

Thorfinn is a Viking ghost from the early 11th century and the oldest spirit haunting Woodstone Mansion, having died on the grounds before the mansion was ever built, when he was struck by lightning while wearing his metal helmet. Portrayed by Devan Chandler Long, Thorfinn had been left behind by his Viking crew, but in later episodes, he discovers that his son is a ghost haunting the house next door. Thorfinn enjoys watching television, and particularly reality shows, leading to hilarious instances of this manly Viking making catty remarks about the plotlines of the reality show contestants. His ghost power is that by channeling his rage, he can manipulate electricity, affecting power to make lights flicker and appliances to malfunction.

The cholera victims who inhabit the Woodstone Manor are led by the ghost Nancy, portrayed by Betsy Sodaro. Those ghosts are semi-regulars on the show, having died in the mid-19th century while exiled to a pest house on the property. They were all buried in a pit on the property and they all reside as ghosts in the Manor's basement. Nancy has a casually abrasive personality, is prone to gossip, and has a modern-day vernacular, which she learned from "two cool, laidback dudes" who repaired the water heater in the 1990s.

The 1940s-era Hollywood screenwriter Joan has become a semi-regular in the later seasons, portrayed by Taylor Ortega. She carries with her a flask of whiskey that the other ghosts are able to drink from. Similarly to Pete, she too can roam far from her death site, but for even longer periods of time.

Shiki is a Lenape Native American woman who has appeared in episodes from time to time, and was the object of one of the Woodstone Manor ghosts' great affection for centuries. Portrayed by First Nations actress Crystle Lightning, her character Shiki died around the 1520's and inhabits a building that is home to the Ulster County Review newspaper and publishing office.

The intensely humorless, and super-pious character named Patience, is portrayed by the actress-comedian Mary Holland. She speaks of herself in the third person, in Old English, rarely referring to herself as "I" but as "Patience" instead. She lived in a Puritan colony in 1692 but was exiled for being too extreme, wishing to execute a child for speaking to a doll for instance. She died of a bloodletting procedure, and after escaping being trapped in the dirt next to the basement, she is awkward among the ghosts, intimidating them and creeping them out with her ghostly power-making her own blood drip down walls that form messages that living people can see.

Stephanie, portrayed by actress Odessa A'zion is a teenage ghost who "lives" in the attic of Woodstone Manor and sleeps through most of the year, an appropriate ratio for a ghost as living teenagers are known for sleeping very late into the day. She died in the 1980s, when she was murdered by a chainsaw-wielding serial killer at the Woodstone driveway on the night of her prom.

One of the most rarely encountered ghosts on the show is Judy Farnsby (portrayed by Lindsey Broas), the mother of Henry Farnsby, who lives next door to Woodstone Manor with his wife Margaret, both of whom are unaware of Henry's mother haunting their house. Judy is very critical of her son Henry (actor Mark Linn-Baker), and she also has a crush on Thorfinn's son Bjorn, who we learn is a ghost who resides in the Farnsby house.

And now, here are the ghosts who are not characters on the TV show "Ghosts":

Sam Wheat, the banker was the titular character of the Best Picture Oscar-nominated film "Ghost" (1990). He was portrayed by Patrick Swayze.

Bruce Willis played the psychiatrist Malcolm in the 1999 film "The Sixth Sense" which was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Malcolm Crowe sees fellow dead people, like himself.

Sea Captain Daniel Gregg was the titular "Ghost" in the 1947 movie "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir"; he was portrayed by Rex Harrison. Edward Mulahare portrayed Captain Daniel Gregg in the TV series adaptation of the movies that ran from 1968-1970.

The Grady Twins were those two very creepy ghost girls in the Stanley Kubrick film of Stephen King's novel "The Shining." They were the two girls in pale blue dresses, portrayed by real-life twins Lisa and Louise Burns.

Miss Jessel is a governess in the Henry James novel "The Turn of the Screw." She is described as a miserable, pale, dreadful black-clad ghost believed to have corrupting intentions toward the children. The book has had several film, TV, and stage adaptations.

Joe Pendleton was portrayed by actor Warren Beatty in the wonderful film "Heaven Can Wait" (1978), and again, was Oscar-nominated for Best Picture. Joe was a football player who was prematurely taken by a novice angel to go to heaven, but the angel made a mistake-Joe would have missed getting hit by the truck.
