Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A Douwd posing as a human

Answer: Kevin Uxbridge

Kevin Uxbridge was a Douwd, which are a nearly omnipotent race of non-corporeal beings. They could assume mortal forms, create illusions that seem real to technology, and possess telepathic abilities.

Kevin had been traveling on Earth as a student and met a young woman named Rishon. Her parents disapproved of him, but she was smitten and asked him to marry her within two hours. They did marry and lived in New Martim Vaz for decades before moving to the colony on Rana IV.

Rana IV was attacked by a race called the Husnock. The Husnock completely destroyed the planet. As a Douwd, Kevin did not believe in violence, even in the defense of himself or others. Rishon went with the other colonists to defend the colony, and they were all killed. When Kevin found Rishon's body, he went mad with grief. The omnipotent powers he had not used for decades came out, and he annihilated the Husnock. Not just the attacking warships, but all Husnock throughout existence. Fifty billion beings, all annihilated.

The USS Enterprise-D received a distress call from Rana IV, but too late. When they scanned the planet, they found it totally devastated, except for a few acres with a house and two human residents - both Keven and Rishon Uxbridge. This was Kevin's solace, that he could re-create Rishon and their home. But the illogic of their existence piqued Picard's curiosity. To throw the investigation off track, Kevin placed incessant telepathic music in the mind of Deanna Troi so that she couldn't focus and detect that Kevin was not human. Kevin even had a simulation of the Husnock come and "destroy" his house, letting the Enterprise then drive them off. Picard suspected something suspicious, so he left the planet, only to return a short time later and found the Uxbridge house restored. He beamed the Uxbridge couple up to the bridge, where he apologized to Rishon, because he knew that she was not real. She then disappeared, and Kevin told Picard all of the events that had transpired. Kevin also released Troi from her mental torment.

Picard told Kevin that he was not qualified to judge Kevin for his crime, and that Kevin should return to Rana IV where he could re-create Rishon and his home. In his log, Picard states that Kevin was a being of both extraordinary power and conscience and isn't sure if he should be condemned for his crime or praised for his conscience. What he does know, however, is that Kevin should be left alone. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Survivors")

Kevin Uxbridge was portrayed by John Anderson.
2. First officer on USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) under Captain Pike

Answer: Una Chin-Riley

Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley was the first officer (commonly referred to as Number One) under Captain Pike on the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). She was an Illyrian, a species that genetically augmented themselves to suit the environment of where they live rather than change the planet. Since there was a ban in the Federation and Starfleet of genetically enhanced beings (because of the Eugenics Wars), Illyrians were not Federation members and individuals were not allowed entry into Starfleet. Una basically lied on her Starfleet application, and finally admitted this to Captain Pike. Despite this, he said she was the best first officer in Starfleet, and he would defend her remaining in Starfleet no matter what. ("Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" episode "Ghosts of Illyria")

Lieutenant Una Chin-Riley was portrayed by Rebecca Romijn in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds". She was portrayed by Majel Barrett in the original "Star Trek" pilot episode "The Cage", being referred to as Number One. Her younger self was portrayed by Anna Claire Beitel in the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" episode "Ad Astra per Aspera".
3. Communications officer on USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) under Captain Kirk

Answer: Nyota Uhura

Nyota Uhura was introduced as a cadet communications officer on the USS Enterprise under Captain Pike. While aboard, she was given a commission of ensign ("Star Trek: Strange New Worlds"). Later, she became a Lieutenant under Captain James Kirk, also aboard the Enterprise ("Star Trek"). After Kirk's five-year mission, she became a commander serving at Starfleet Command ("Star Trek III: The Search for Spock"). Her final service until her retirement was command of the USS Leondegrance ("Star Trek: Picard" episode "The Star Gazer" commemorative plaque).

Nyota Uhura was portrayed by Nichelle Nichols in "Star Trek" and all the movies and shows based on it. She was portrayed by Celia Rose Gooding in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds".

Her first name Nyota was not given as canon in the early "Star Trek" productions. However, in the book "Star Trek II Biographies" by William Rotsler, she is given the first name Nyota, which means "star" in Swahili. It was often used in "Star Trek" novels after that. It became canon in the movie "Star Trek" (2009) when Spock called her by this name.

Whoopi Goldberg found Nichols's portrayal of Uhura inspiring as a child. Goldberg recalled that when she saw Uhura on-screen for the first time, she ran out of the room, telling everyone in her house, "I just saw a black woman on television; and she ain't no maid!"
4. Cardassian scientist

Answer: Ulani Belor

Ulani Belor was a Cardassian scientist. She was sent to Deep Space 9 to assist the Federation in installing a subspace relay at the Gamma Quadrant entrance of the Bajoran wormhole. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Destiny")

Ulani Belor was portrayed by Wendy Robie.
5. Ferengi pirate (22nd century)

Answer: Ulis

Ulis was a Ferengi pirate in the 22nd century. He would plant a trojan horse device on a planet. When a vessel would pick it up and bring it aboard, it would release a gas that would knock out the entire crew. Then he and his crew (including his cousin Krem) would go aboard and strip it of everything they thought would be of value, then leave before the crew awakened.

When the USS Enterprise (NX-01) fell for this trap, the chief engineer, Trip Tucker, was in a decontamination chamber, which had an independent air supply and thus he was not knocked out. When he realized that nobody was monitoring him after he was in the decon chamber for too long, he forced his way out and discovered the Ferengi crew crudely scavenging the Enterprise. He got a hold of the Ferengi's hypospray that would revive individuals and got T'Pol awakened. (The Ferengi had, in the meantime, awakened Captain Archer and were trying to coerce him to reveal the location of his vault.)

Tucker and T'Pol set up a trap in the lower deck of the ship. He then let himself get caught by the Ferengi. He then started an argument with Archer that he was too greedy and that he should lead their captors to the vault. Archer refused, and they started to tussle. The Ferengi separated them, and Tucker promised to lead them to the vault as long as he got a cut of the treasure therein. He took three of them on a winding course through the decks of the Enterprise, leading them to a service chamber that T'Pol had made up to look like a vault. After he opened it, the three Ferengi stormed into the "vault", only to be stunned by T'Pol.

After the crew had awakened, they had the Ferengi return all the equipment, food, and Archer's pet beagle, Porthos. They then bound three of the Ferengi and told the fourth cooperative Ferengi, Krem, to leave Human and Vulcan space, or else face the consequences. He set off away from the Enterprise, ignoring the pleas of his cousin and shipmates.

Ulis was played by Ethan Phillips. He is best known in "Star Trek" lore as Neelix ("Star Trek: Voyager"). He also played a Ferengi doctor, Ferek ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Ménage à Troi"), and a holographic nightclub maître d' in the movie "Star Trek: First Contact" (uncredited).
6. Starfleet officer assigned to Relay Station 47

Answer: Aquiel Uhnari

Lieutenant j.g. Aquiel Uhnari was a Haliian Starfleet officer who was stationed on Relay Station 47 as a communications officer. Her colleague on the station - Keith Rocha - was not a human as he appeared, but actually a coalescent organism who had taken Rocha's form (presumedly killing him as well). The organism attacked Uhnari, but she escaped in a shuttlecraft. While she was gone, the organism had attacked and killed her pet dog, Maura. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Aquiel")

Lieutenant j.g. Aquiel Uhnari was portrayed by Reneé Jones.
7. Augment raised by Arik Soong that only had enhanced hearing

Answer: Udar

Udar (nicknamed "Smike") was one of nineteen Augments that were raised by Arik Soong in the 22nd century. Unlike his siblings, he didn't have extraordinary physical abilities, but did possess heightened hearing. ("Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Cold Station 12")

Udar was portrayed by Kaj-Krik Eriksen.
8. Rana IV colonist killed by the Husnock

Answer: Rishon Uxbridge

Rishon Uxbridge was a colonist on Rana IV. She lived there with her husband of several decades, Kevin. She had met him on an ocean voyage on Earth and fell in love with him almost immediately. She asked him to marry her, and they got married.

On Rana IV, the Husnock, a species of hideous intelligence, attacked the entire planet. When they attacked, Rishon joined most of the other colonists in defending the colony. Sadly, they were vastly overwhelmed, and the Husnock scorched the entire surface of Rana IV, leaving nothing, and killing all but one of the colonists. Kevin, the survivor, was a pacifist and did not participate in the attempted defense of the colony. However, what saved him was not his pacifism, but that he was secretly an omnipotent being. Not even his beloved wife realized his true nature. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Survivors")

Rishon Uxbridge was portrayed by Anne Haney. Haney also played Els Renora, a Bajoran arbiter who judged whether Jadzia Dax was responsible for the crimes of Curzon Dax. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Dax")
9. Bartender/owner on planet Quarra (Delta Quadrant)

Answer: Umali

Umali was a female humanoid of unknown species. She owned and worked at a bar on the planet Quarra in the Delta Quadrant. Since many of the planet's working adults were kidnapped victims who had their past memories rewritten, she was probably not a native, but just another victim of the Quarran authorities who were trying to alleviate their labor shortage. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Workforce")

Umali was portrayed by Iona Morris. Iona Morris and her brother Phil Morris both played Onlies in the "Star Trek" episode "Miri".
10. Brunt's servant when he was Nagus (temporarily)

Answer: Uri'lash

Uri'lash was the Hupyrian servant to Brunt during his brief time as Grand Nagus.

Uri'lash accompanied Brunt to Deep Space 9. He and Zek's servant Maihar'du were not fond of each other. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Profit and Lace")

Uri'lash was portrayed by Sylvain Cecile.
