Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Independent archiologist

Answer: Vash

Vash was an archaeologist who worked independently and had somewhat questionable ethics. She met Jean-Luc Picard when he was vacationing on Risa. She used him as a diversion to escape the notice of a Ferengi - Sovak - whom she was racing to find a mystical artifact - the Tox Uthat.

Vash was portrayed by Jennifer Hetrick in her two appearances in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and one appearance in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Q-Less".
2. Changeling who was a former Founder

Answer: Vadic

Vadic was a Changeling and a former Founder. She and other Changelings were prisoner of war from the Federation-Dominion War. They were held Daystrom Station and subjected to torturous experiments. The experiments were an attempt to more completely mimic other life forms, down to anatomy, physiology, and cell biology, and to fool blood screenings. ("Star Trek: Picard")

Vadic was portrayed mainly by Amanda Plummer, and by other actors when Vadic shape-shifted.
3. Human crash survivor on Talos IV

Answer: Vina

Vina was a human female who was aboard the SS Columbia which crashed on Talos IV in the 23rd century. She was the sole survivor. The Talosians found her and brought her back to health. But since they'd never seen a human before, their repairs to her left her disfigured.

When the USS Enterprise, under Captain Christopher Pike, passed by years later, the Talosians (with their powerful mental powers) attracted the Enterprise by simulating a distress call from the Columbia and a follow-up message that they had survivors. Since they were 18 light years from the Talos system and the message was a light-speed communication, it solidified the authenticity of the messages.

Once they arrived, they found a ragged camp of survivors, including Vina (appearing to the landing party as healthy, beautiful woman). But once she was able to lure Pike away from the others, she disappeared and a group of Talosians came out of a hidden elevator, stunned Pike, and took him into their underground complex. ("Star Trek" pilot episode "The Cage")

Vina was portrayed by Susan Oliver in "The Cage". In the prequel series "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds", Vina was portrayed by Melissa George (episode "If Memory Serves").
4. Vulcan insurrectionist

Answer: Valeris

Lieutenant Valeris was a Vulcan Starfleet officer who served as the helmsman on the USS Enterprise-A under Captain Kirk. She was a key participant in a conspiracy to sabotage peace talks between the Klingon Empire and the Federation after the Praxis disaster.

Valeris was portrayed by Kim Cattrall. Cattrall is best known for her role as Samantha Jones on "Sex and the City".
5. Vulcan engineer on USS Voyager

Answer: Vorik

Ensign (later Lieutenant) Vorik was a Vulcan engineer assigned to USS Voyager. He was part of the crew that was seized by the Caretaker and brought to the Delta Quadrant.

When the time came for his pon farr, he logically deduced that his intended bride would've already declared him lost and/or presumed dead. Therefore, he would have to choose a new mate, known as koon-ut-so'lik, with someone on Voyager. He chose B'Elanna Torres, who declined the invitation. But in his affected mind, he wouldn't take no for an answer, and he started a telepathic mating bond with B'Elanna. This caused her to suffer the same neurochemical imbalance that Vulcans experience with pon farr. To release Vorik from his pon farr, he needed to fight someone in kal-if-fee, and he chose Tom Paris. However, since B'Elanna also needed release, so she insisted on being the kal-if-fee fighter. (This was rather illogical, since normal kal-if-fee is to the death.) She fought Vorik until he was unconscious, which was enough to release them both from their neurochemical imbalances. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Blood Fever")

Vorik was portrayed by Alexander Enberg. Enberg has played three other characters in "Star Trek" productions: a Young Reporter ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Time's Arrow, Part II"), Ensign Taurik ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Lower Decks"), and a Malon Engineer ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Juggernaut")

Apocryphally, Vorik and Taurik are twin brothers, as mentioned in the video game "Star Trek: Starship Creator".
6. Genetically-modified Klingon sleeper agent

Answer: Voq

Voq was a Klingon spy. When a Starfleet officer, Ash Tyler, was captured by Klingons in the Federation-Klingon War, his memories and DNA were spliced with Voq. Tyler's personality completely subsumed Voq's, making him a sleeper agent. Tyler/Voq was then placed in a prison cell with Harry Mudd and later Captain Gabriel Lorca, thinking he was the human Tyler. Lorca and Tyler/Voq escaped (leaving Mudd behind). Back on the USS Discovery, Lorca made Tyler/Voq his chief of security. ("Star Trek: Discovery")

Tyler/Voq was portrayed by Shazad Latif.
7. Erroneously proven son of Jean-Luc Picard

Answer: Jason Vigo

Jason Vigo was a young man born to Miranda Vigo and an unnamed Starfleet officer. He had a somewhat directionless life after his mother was murdered. He became unintentionally involved with a vengeance plot by the Ferengi DaiMon Bok, who wanted revenge against Jean-Luc Picard for killing his son in a battle decades before. Bok secretly resequenced Jason's DNA, making it appear as though he was Picard's son. But upon discovering that Jason had a syndrome that is inherited and neither Miranda Vigo nor Picard had it, Dr. Crusher rightly concluded that Jason was not Picard's son. Bok had kidnapped Jason and was holding him for ransom. But once Bok's crew was informed that Jason was not Picard's son, they turned on Bok and released Jason. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Bloodlines")

Jason Vigo was portrayed by Ken Olandt.
8. Sentient climate control computer

Answer: Vexilon

Vexilon was a benevolent computer that controlled the climate on an ancient Dyson ring. After the ring's builders evolved to another dimension, the ring was colonized by Corazonians. The USS Cerritos was sent to the ring to find out why Vexilon was creating unpredictable weather instead of keeping the climate nice. Captain Freeman discovered that the software, not the hardware, of Vexilon required updating. She did so, and the climate issues were resolved. ("Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "In the Cradle of Vexilon")

Vexilon was voiced by Oscar Montoya.
9. Holographic Las Vegas lounge singer

Answer: Vic Fontaine

Vic Fontaine was an interactive hologram that was a part of a 1960s Las Vegas holosuite program in Quark's on Deep Space 9. His character owned Vic's Las Vegas Lounge. His program became quite popular on the station, owing to the great music and Vic's charm. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine")

He was self-aware that he was a hologram. He also gave out sage advice to the personnel who visited him. He even long-term hosted Ensign Nog when Nog was recovering physically and emotionally after losing his leg. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episodes "The Siege of AR-558" and "It's Only A Paper Moon")

The mirror universe counterpart of Vic Fontaine was an actual person, not a hologram. He was killed by mirror-Bashir during a firefight. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "The Emperor's New Cloak")

Vic Fontaine was portrayed by James Darren. Darren had starred with William Shatner in the police drama "T.J. Hooker".
10. Trill who stole Dax symbiont for a short time

Answer: Verad

Verad was a Trill who had been a prospective candidate for hosting a symbiont. However, he was declined by the Symbiosis Commission. He then became a communications clerk on Khefka IV. While there, he met and fell in love with Mareel.

They planned to steal the Dax symbiont from Jadzia Dax. They were successful in this by taking advantage of Deep Space 9 being temporarily vacated due to an incoming plasma storm. He instantly became a more confident person. He also tried to establish a friendship with Commander Sisko. However, Sisko knew that with Dax being removed from Jadzia, she would soon die, so he refused to accept friendship from Verad Dax.

After the remaining staff of Deep Space 9 regained control, they returned Dax to Jadzia. This left Verad shattered, feeling strange and empty.

Verad was portrayed by John Glover.
11. Security crewman on USS Enterprise under Captain Kirk

Answer: Vinci

Vinci was a red-shirt mainly serving in Security on USS Enterprise under Captain James Kirk.

Vinci was portrayed by Frank da Vinci. He appeared (uncredited) in 18 episodes of "Star Trek". Frank da Vinci also portrayed Brent, a tan-shirt crewman, in 40 episodes of "Star Trek".
12. Assassinated Romulan senator

Answer: Vreenak

Vreenak was a Romulan senator who detoured to Deep Space 9 to see supposed video evidence that the Dominion was planning on invading the Romulan Empire. He already had a low opinion of the Federation and Starfleet. After seeing the evidence (which was actually forged by Sisko and Garak), he investigated and found that it was fake. He then headed back to Romulus, but his shuttle exploded en route. Garak had planted a bomb, with the plan being that the video would be found in the shuttle's debris, and any discrepancies would be explained by the explosion. This actually worked, and it brought the Romulans into the Federation-Dominion war on the Federation side. Sisko was furious with Garak for his underhanded tactics. Garak reminds the captain that this is why Sisko came to him for help in the first place: because he knew that Garak was willing to do things that he couldn't, no matter how distasteful and illegal. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "In The Pale Moonlight")

Vreenak was portrayed by Stephen McHattie.

This episode was unique in that the plot frame was of Captain Sisko recording a personal log of the events surrounding planning the fake video and the killing of Vreenak. But instead of talking to a computer, Sisko was breaking the fourth wall and addressing the TV audience. After finishing his log, he then has the computer delete the entire log entry.
13. Assistant Director of the Tantalus Penal Colony

Answer: Simon Van Gelder

Dr. Simon Van Gelder was the assistant of Dr. Tristan Adams of the Tantalus Penal Colony. Dr. Adams had put Van Gelder under a device called the neural neutralizer. The device was intended to rehabilitate criminals. But the real effect was to empty the mind of the subject and to install the commands of whoever was operating the device.

Dr. Van Gelder escaped from the penal colony onto the USS Enterprise. Although initially thought to be insane, he finally convinced Spock to perform his first mind-meld with a human. With this, Spock determined the true nature of Van Gelder's "madness", and also the misuse of the neural neutralizer by Dr. Adams. ("Star Trek" episode "Dagger of the Mind")

Dr. Simon Van Gelder was portrayed by Morgan Woodward. Woodward later portrayed Captain Ronald Tracey, who commanded the USS Exeter in "Star Trek" episode "The Omega Glory".
14. Leader of the Na'kuhl during the Temporal Cold War

Answer: Vosk

Vosk was the leader of the Na'kuhl, one of the factions in the Temporal Cold War. Just before he would've been captured by Daniel's faction, he time-traveled back to 1944 Earth and inserted himself into World War II, siding with Nazi Germany. He provided the Nazis with highly-advanced technology, which enabled them to invade the East Coast of the United States of America. ("Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Storm Front, Part I")

In an effort to restore the timeline, Daniels transported Captain Archer and Enterprise NX-01 to 1944 so they could stop Vosk, when he was most vulnerable. They eventually were successful, destroying the temporal conduit moments before Vosk could enter it and escape back to the future. This reset the timeline and brought the end of the Temporal Cold War. ("Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Storm Front, Part II")

Vosk was portrayed by Jack Gwaltney.
15. Science officer of the USS Excelsior under Captain Sulu

Answer: Dimitri Valtane

Lieutenant Commander Dimitry Valtane was a Starfleet science officer who served on the USS Excelsior under Captain Hikaru Sulu. When the Excelsior was hit by a shockwave, it was Valtane who discovered that it originated at the Klingon moon Praxis, which had just been destroyed. (movie "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country")

Dimitri Valtane was portrayed by Jeremy Roberts in both the movie "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" and in the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Flashback". Roberts also portrayed Meso'clan in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Hippocratic Oath".
