Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Vancouver in Leg 3, teams had to use key letters, all found on a vehicle, to decode their next destination. What was that key word?

Answer: LANGLEY

Departing early from a starting point back at Lake Louise, Alberta, racers needed to drive themselves south to the city of Calgary to stop in at the airport and catch one of two pre-purchased flights to the British Columbia city of Vancouver, each landing an hour apart. Teams were also warned that at some point in this leg of the race, they would face a Double U-Turn Vote, putting their positions in jeopardy if they received enough votes.

Upon landing in Vancouver, racers had to locate Terry Fox Plaza in BC Place. There, they would find a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV marked in Canadian destinations. Using the red letters found amongst the location names, they could spell out their next destination: LANGLEY. And trading that word would give them their next clue and their vehicle for this leg.
2. Which of these teams was U-Turned via the U-Turn Vote in Leg 3?

Answer: Grace and Joe

Racers, determining they needed to head to Langley, could drive themselves sixty kilometres east to find this B.C. town. There, they had to navigate to Martini Town Studios in the Fraser Valley, arriving there to find the Double U-Turn Vote board waiting for them. Once teams placed their votes, they were informed that they would be spending the night on the backlot. Teams would find out who was U-Turned the next morning as the votes were revealed in full. Both Jesse and Jonathon and Grace and Joe would be forced to contend with both tasks at the upcoming Detour.

When teams were allowed to depart, they were told they would get their next clue by first dressing up in costumes then serenading each other in a memorized duet. If they could get their songs correct and in full, they could keep racing.
3. Racers had to contend with a Face Off in Leg 3 when they visited Abbotsford, B.C. Here, they had to play what sport?

Answer: Hockey

Completing the serenading task at Martini Town, racers had to drive themselves to Abbotsford Centre and put on their skates for the season's first Face Off task-- one that seemed apropos considering the task type. Here, one racer needed to play goalie and the other had to shoot, and the teams would face each other in a shootout with the winning team getting their next clue. The losing team had to keep trying, and the last team left had to wait out a penalty to keep racing.

After this task, teams drive themselves to the nearby Highstreet Shopping Centre to locate the local Specsavers location. Using a pair of oversized glasses and several transparent puzzle sheets, they had to spell out a code phrase, 'EYE EXAM', to get their next clue. Louis and Marie, flustered and in the back of the pack, used their Express Pass to skip this challenge.
4. How many Express Passes were used to skip Detour tasks in Leg 3?

Answer: One

Leaving the eye exam challenge, racers collected a Detour clue sending them to Fort Langley for one of two tasks (or both!).

In 'Take a Hint', racers headed to the Village Antiques Mall and received a riddle at random. With this, they had ten minutes to search the building for the one marked item in the 10,000 sq.ft location that matched the hint.

In 'Plant Treatment', racers instead visited the Tradish Ancestor Cafe where they could speak to visitors outside, learn their specific ailments, and determine the best remedy for their issues based on their memories of the cafe menu. If they could get the proper combo, they could get their next clue.

Jesse and Jonathon skipped 'Take a Hint' with their Express Pass while Grace and Joe had to complete both sides per the U-Turn Vote. Most other teams went to 'Plant Treatment'.
5. Which team was eliminated at Cultus Lake, British Columbia at the end of the race's third leg?

Answer: Osas and Esosa

Racers were able to leave the Detour bound for the Pit Stop at the end of their day in the Langley area, and for this they needed to drive themselves sixty kilometres eastward to Cultus Lake Adventure Park. Despite having a U-Turn, Jesse and Jonathan used the Express Pass handed to them by Louis and Marie and passed their extra challenge without needing to worry. It allowed them to coast into a third consecutive win, this time taking a trip for two to Queenstown, New Zealand from Expedia (and $10,000 CAD to spend).

Although Louis and Marie trailed through most of the leg and used their Express Pass as well, they managed to outmaneuver brothers Osas and Esosa. The short kings arrived in ninth and were eliminated as a result.
6. Which of these teams did teams not eat for the Muskrat Jamboree in Inuvik, NWT (in Leg 4)?

Answer: Arctic hare

Opening their Leg 4 starting clues back in Langley Township, racers were sent to Vancouver International Airport for a long and unexpected trip to the far north of the Northwest Territories and the town of Inuvik, two hundred kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Upon landing in one of the two arriving flights, travelling via Yellowknife, racers had to take a taxi to the Ingamo Hall Friendship Centre and join in the Muskrat Jamboree. Racers didn't know they would be digging into a plate of local foods including muktuk (whale blubber), caribou rib, reindeer steak, and muskrat. Finishing the plate meant receiving their next clue.
7. Which Leg 4 Detour tasks involved learning an endangered language?

Answer: 'Gahtronatun Zheh'

Leaving the Ingamo Hall Friendship Centre, racers were given a Detour clue with the tasks written in Gwich'in.

In 'Iviqsuraaq', racers headed to the headquarters of the Inuvik Native Band where, provided materials, they needed to create five toys for local kids and deliver them to locations throughout Inuvik, only receiving their next clue when they returned to the workshop. Ika and Demetres, Louis and Marie, and Grace and Joe went for this one.

In 'Gahtronatun Zheh', racers joined schoolchildren at East Three Elementary School to learn basics from the endangered Arctic language of Gwich'in. If they could learn enough to answer two randomly-asked questions from a Gwich'in elder, they would get their next clue. Jesse and Jonathon, Rebecca and Rebecca, Nipiy and Magoo, Lacey and Celia, and EB and Blake learned the local language.
8. Racers completed their Leg 4 Road Block riding on the back of which of these modes of Arctic transportation in the wilderness outside of Inuvik?

Answer: Dogsled

Racers leaving the Detour were given a Road Block task and asked for a team member who 'had an eye for the Arctic', and with that, they needed to direct their taxis to the local Arctic Chalet for the challenge. Here, in the frozen tundra, racers had to hop onto the back of a dogsled and, while being pulled by a group of sled dogs, race a three kilometre trail through the snow. Along the way, they also had to keep their eyes peeled for seven different animal standees out in the snow, all in white. If they could identify the correct seven from amongst a chart of eleven, and all in the exact order, they could get their next clue and keep racing, heading to the Inuvik Satellite Station Facility.

There, at the Satellite Station, racers were required to complete a puzzle depicting the artwork displayed on a nearby, moving dish.
9. Of the six games presented to teams in Tuktoyaktuk, how many did they actually need to complete?

Answer: Three

Leaving the Inuvik Satellite Station, teams had to travel to Aklak Air and sign up for one of three flights taking them to the remote town of Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean coast. Arriving there, racers had to head to Kitti Hall for one last task in the leg involving a series of northern games and pastimes designed to improve strength. Teams had to complete three of the six provided, partaking in the swing kick, toe kick, Alaskan high kick, kneel jump, bench reach, and the stick twist to receive their final clue.

This last challenge was also the one to feature this leg's Assist from Desjardins. Jesse and Jonathon, who collected the clue containing it, only had to complete two games instead of three.
10. Which team was last to reach the fourth Pit Stop of the race on the edge of the Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyaktuk?

Answer: Lacey and Celia

Upon completing their strength training at Kitti Hall, all racers needed to do was find Jon at their fourth Pit Stop, the mat for which was waiting for them right at the edge of Tuktoyaktuk at the Arctic Ocean Sign on Nuuvuraluuk. Finally overthrowing Jesse and Jonathon, EB and Blake made it to the Pit Stop first, winning themselves a trip for two Amsterdam courtesy of Expedia (along with $10,000 CAD to spend there).

At the end of the day, the final plane of two teams landed for a close race to the finish and Grace and Joe arrived before Lacey and Celia who, unfortunately, elected to take a two-hour penalty to skip the puzzle challenge in Inuvik. They were, however, spared by a non-elimination Pit Stop and told they would be able to continue racing.
